Toss up between Progressive Metal and Death Metal.

And guess what my favorite is. Opeth, No less. Something about their way with lyrics, the live performances. I don't think anyone can quite touch Mikael Akerfeldt's voice and range either. There are a few, but for the most part, not really.

Tool is another Progressive band that crushes most others.

I've recently been getting into Kamelot, which is power metal I think. I've actually been trying to find some bands that are similar, but no luck so far.

Any metal lovers in this thread have any suggestions? Figure this is the perfect thread to ask.
Melodic Power Metal, but that might be getting too specific. Me and my friend just love to classify bands. Bodom is Neoclassical Black Metal for us. Anyway, I don't know about bands just like Kamelot, they are an amazing band. You could try Dream Evil, Sonata Arctica, Edguy, Firewind, Hammerfall. I wouldn't call many of these bands Melodic Power Metal though. But, all Power Metal, all great.
Also, since it's all metalheads here, there is a user group called the Metal Group, come along, we don't have many members.

Out of all the poll answers mine would def have to be between metal metal and prog metal. My favorite band right now is definitely Between the Buried and Me. God colors is the best album ever and The Great Misdirect is growing on me.

The best young metal band is Protest the Hero. They put out their first album when they were still in high school and topped the canadian charts when they were 20. With a new album coming soon I gotta say im quite excited to see what they do.

Also: I also like metalcore even though all the metal purists snub their noses at it.

I know, right? Fortress was an absolute beast of an album, I listened to that nearly everyday for about 2 months. Funny thing is I didn't even like the band at first, then one time heretics and killers came on shuffle and it was like "Woo, riffage! Woo constant progression, now i won't get bored ooh shiny!" The new one is the best for it's bombast though, It's seriously epic...

I listen to Heavy metal, (oddly enougth it isnt in the poll, i seriously am comfused about that one or the lack of it, mabie your calling it metal metal (assuming since ive never herd of the metal metal sub genrue before) but hell it doesnt matter)

anyway a slightly obvious choice here but Dio (the band not Ronnie James Dio due to thread title.), due to the pure kick assery of them and well theres really not much else to say bar they kick ass.... that is all.

Metallica, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, and All that Remains.
Not so much
Dragonforce, Bullet for my Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, or Cannibal Corpse.

My favorite metal albums: The Black Album, Kill 'em All, Follow the Reaper, For the Sake of Revenge(live), Overcome, Aeronautics, and ...Are you Dead Yet.

My favorite metal songs are: Kissing the Shadows, Living Dead Beat, If you Want Peace... Prepare for War, 8th Commandment, Full Moon, Crimson Rider, Wounds, Two Weeks, Six, The Sound of Truth, The Four Horsemen, Hit the Lights, Blackened, Of Wolf and Man, High Speed Dirt, and Painkiller.

I feel that these songs, bands, and albums epitomize the good in whatever genre or subgenre those bands choose to include themselves in.
