I voted yes, but I'd only go so far as to say I get annoyed, rather than pissed off. After all, if I really, really wanted to, I could buy foreign copies of games for cheaper. That does not make it any better that we have to pay such stupid prices over here, but since the option exists I can't get too angry.

I wouldn't say it's something to start a riot over.

Honestly, 90% of the games I buy are through digital distribution (i.e. Steam), and all boxed games I order over ebay. So, I basically avoid local retail prices completely.

I'm not sure if games get taxed more than other goods, but I do understand if local game retailers are having to jack up prices of new release games to make up for their losses trying to compete with Steam and overseas sellers undercutting them all the time.. it's like watching a species die an incredibly slow death. Retailers either have to adapt (which a lot of Aussie games sellers are doing, they are moving to eBay with really low prices, lower than Steam) or change their sales models some other way.

I've gotten over it honestly. As people have pointed out, it's relatively the same cost whe compared to income and costs of living.

Wait a few months till the price drops to under $50, then buy the game. Unless it's Nintendo.

New copy of Super Smash Brothers Brawl (2008) is $98 at EBGames.

I.E.: I paid $320 for Mortal Kombat on the PS3.
I am sorry but why would you pay so much????? that is a shitload of money -excuse my french-

OT: -raises the Jolly Rodger-
I do believe he meant 320 peso, which is about 75 USD, according to google.

Because if he meant 320 dollars, that'd be 1,345 peso, which is just absurd.

And also, you may want to change the last part of your post to avoid mod wrath.

Please tell me no one actually pays $120 in Australia for games. That's just ridiculous. I don't think I've ever paid more than $90, and I sure haven't paid more than $70 since I started importing. I don't ever end up getting games on release day anymore... but I'm patient enough to wait an extra week or two.

How about us here in New Zealand? New release games are 80-100 USD here. Our minimum wage is 11.50US before tax and the average income per person is much, much lower than it is in the USA.

And not only that, but the prices for digital distribution are increased too. 90 USD for Black Ops on steam, *and* they make us pay it in USD?

They use the exchange rate as an excuse to bump up the price. I'm pretty pissed off that I have to pay that much more for a game. That's why I don't buy games anymore

The US has no right to complain, they get the cheapest games by far, Europe has to pay more for games than them, and the UK certainly does, let alone Aussies and Kiwis

I live in England and a new release title is £40 which comes to about $64 USD or £45 which becomes $72 USD

Thing is I fondly remember PS2 games being £30 at launch which was fair enough really, I did pre order games at that price. But nowadays I'd rather wait for the game to go cheaper, all it takes is a little patience.

It frustrates me, but I'd rather not be 'that guy' that keeps having to top people on the screwed-by-life meter. It's like someone complaining that it's hot while the people next to them are on fire...it makes them look like they're self-centred, but telling them off for it isn't going to make you any less incinerated.
Yeah. In Australia, both sides of the government are squabbling over fixing the refugee policy, and games are expensive. In the US, there's massive unemployment and poverty, and there was a massive shitstorm recently between both parties over whether or not they should really fuck the economy up.

Can't complain too much.
You basically hit the nail on the head with what's happening in the states... It's damn sad, damn old rich people can't trust them with shit.

OT

Games are expensive all around, we're all broke, we all want to play a large list of the year's selection of games yet we can't because we have to eat, pay bills, fuel for our cars and shit like that. You really get pissed at other people saying its expensive, you should be getting mad at the publishers that set that price point as a standard. When a majority of games are really 10$-45$ max. They're the ones that everybody should be angry at.

That you're getting ripped off more than others doesn't mean others aren't getting ripped off as well. I think.

So basically you get annoyed that people are trying to defend certain consumer rights/expectations(about quality and price)? Yes I understand games are higher in Australia than anywhere else but there are probably reasons for this and which I can't effectively comment on as I don't know wage rates in American and Australia.

Personally while I do think that ?50+ in my country is high it is needed for devs at the moment to make money because certain parts of the game budget have become way too overinflated. What needs to happen is games need to come down slightly in some place and the cost of making a game needs to be looked at and the necessary resources redistributed.

While there are probably better things to complain about as games aren't a necessity it is still equally silly to get annoyed over something like this.

Not really much of a gamer if you don't buy games. Just sayin'.

OP: Yes I do get annoyed but I will only pay full price for a game if I really think it's worth it, or not I just buy from Hong Kong. If I do buy it at EB, then I can just return the game if I don't like it and get my money back. Games that I get really hyped up about buy aren't 100% sure if I may like them include Brink and DNF which I both returned and got my money back.

Ironically, Russians get a steal in terms of video games. A new game from an absolutely legal retailer can sometimes cost 10$ o_O
But I'm fairly certain that the average personal income is quite a bit lower there.

I can't afford games at $60, so I don't buy games at $60. I have no problem waiting for price drops and won't complain about what ever price they give me, I just won't buy it. Thats how capitalism works, they set the price people are willing to pay. If you keep paying for it they will keep it at that price. So everyone should quit complaining and wait.

Try living in South Africa!

Third World prices FTFW! With lower third-world salary, AWESOME! /sarcasm.

Not to mention new game prices don't drop for ages unless the game is crap, bargain bin means 10 years old, and half the second-hand stores keep closing down every few months. Gaming-conducive environment it is not.
