There are three really important (to me at least) questions here.

1. Did she get him drunk, or did they drink together?

2. Did he or a family member press charges?

3. Did he want to have sex with her?

Without those questions properly answered I cannot form a proper opinion on the matter.

If it turns out that they had a few drinks together, had sex willingly and a parent pressed charges I do believe this woman to be innocent.
I share this opinion of yours; but people ask what if it was a 20 year old guy with a 14 year old girl? I reply: what were the circumstances? I never make a premature judgement without some solid facts and answers.
Yes, well, guess what? The circumstamces don't fucking matter. If the genders had been reversed, the 14-year-old girl could scream that it was 100% consentual til she was blue in the face. uess who's still going to jail
A real double standard but one that is not without a smidgen of merit. You see it has been proven that many (but not all) girls who become sexually active at a young age may develop cognitive and emotional issues as they develop while at the same time many (but once again not all) boys can become sexually active as young as twelve and still develop normally (but once again I will stress that this is not guaranteed).

Do you have any studies to back that claim?
Yes I do but I cannot remember which ones they are. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolescent_sexuality_in_the_United_States#References

There are 144 references and about 9 or 11 of them I am going off of (no one can expect me to read all 144 references), I just cannot remember which ones. Unless it is about some sort of media like a video game or movie, I generally do not read the wiki itself. I just use it as a reference to get to the references I am looking for. Even then I take everything with a grain of salt since no one can know everything about anything. This link http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/02/070226131500.htm talks about the social aspects having repercussions (Adolescent delinquency) in an early sex life compared to the emotional and psychological ramifications (I do not think I said that right but if your not one of those people who "chose" not to understand because it is not written at a minimum level of sophistication regardless of lucidity then you should be golden). Read all you want because my brain is saying enough.
I'm a second-year college student, and I've heard this from a few Psychology professors. If you're too lazy to look over the references, then just let me vouch for it.
Lazy? How does laziness play into psychological repetition exhaustion? Reading 30 to 40 pages of the exact same topic phrased differently each time on nine or so different sites picked "from the references", unless I was doing a school report or in direct response to this thread, why would I do that all over a second time? To compromise my memory?
Dude, I was replying to your post so that people who read it would have somebody other than you to back it up, in case they were too lazy to check out the link and read through the references.

Chill out.

You usually see couples of males over 18 and females under 18 getting split apart due to legal problems. Apparently love can't beat the law. It should be the same for either gender.
On a side note, kudos to the kid for being awesome.

Sorry dude, I came off too severe. This site really should implement some limited form of smilies so I could have at least conveyed that I was not all out serious without editing the text or adding an external image.

Well, the law is the law so she should go to jail. But I'd be satisfied if she received a more lenient sentence, since the boy's family reported her, not him. If the "raped" party member doesn't consider it rape, then she shouldn't suffer the full consequence of a rape charge. Registered sex offender? Yeah, she deserves that one. But I think being but in prison 20 or so years is a little extreme.

But seriously, that girl needs some help. Me being a 19-year-old girl, I could not fathom being attracted at all to a 14-year-old boy. Much less wanting to date him and be sexually involved. Especially if he's the boy you babysit. Good god, that is just so twisted in my opinion. I certainly think she needs some serious rehab or therapy or something. There is no denying she's a pedophile to some degree.

This is what a fourteen year old boy looks like (Not the one from this case, from another):

Do you honestly think 20 year olds of any sex should be fucking that?
The thing is, BIOLOGICALLY, humans are matured mentally and physically to the point where NATURALLY, we would be seeking out partners for intercourse at the age of... crazy enough, 14. Our society likes to make sex seem like this thing of the devil (Christian ideals still prevalent I guess) and not to happen for anyone under 18. I don't know about you, but by the time I looked like that I was already wanking pretty commonly...
Maybe people just don't like the thought of kids having sex (weirds me out as much as anyone, but that's likely the effect of my culture pushing ideals on me all my life) and maybe it's the realistic notion that having sex at such a young age could land children with babies to take care of. But to make sex with a minor with such a relatively small gap in age between them come with such major penalties is downright outrageous. She should be taken to do rehab and punished because it IS against the law, but this is not worthy of extended jail time at all. There was no rape, it was obviously consented (just saying, if she hadn't had his consent this SHOULD come with extended jail time) and they had a relationship for a long time before the deed was done. She should be made to understand the consequences of her actions - giving a minor alcohol and sleeping with him is bad, m'kay? But her intent and damage done were minimally bad.
There's no real damage, and nobody to protect by punishing her severely. THAT is the purpose of the law, not to punish people because they did something we said not to do arbitrarily. The law is there to keep order and fix problems with dangerous people. In that way, this girl has done little wrong. She needs to be taught a lesson, but not with that sex offender label and months/years in jail. She deserves another chance.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel, word-for-word.

High-five, dude.

She shouldn't have sex with the kid. He's underage, by taking up a job such as babysitting she should absolutely know that that's completely wrong. She has to understand the consequences of what basically is a sexual offense. That said the boy should have known better that what was happening was wrong and could ruin the woman's future, but he is still only a boy and so can be excused.
I don't think it fair for the boy to possibly know that he is, no matter what, completely exempt from punishment, yet still goes along with it, while the girl took all the risk for something that they both wanted.
Yes, I agree he boy shouldn't go completely unpunished, but as the babysitter was in a position of power and she is older, she should never have entered the relationship with him.
Also seeing that it has been reported that she had been in a relationship with him for months, the claim she gave him alcohol to take advantage of him is much less likely than before

I guess that this is just an argument of whether love should be acceptable for all ages-no matter the age gap.

As far as I'm concerned, these laws exist not because sex between people under 16 (legal age of consent in UK) is inherently "bad", but to avoid harm to all involved. It's supposed to protect minors from harm from being coerced into sex with people older than them, when they are not able to make a choice regarding sex, not going into the thorny issue of teen pregnancy.

As in - 40 year old guy has sex with 10 year old girl? That's not her choice. He's physically dominant and she is too young to make a decision about sex with a grown man. An inherent risk of this is harm to the girl, hence child sex laws.

14 year old, though? That's on the cusp. I'd say that he was just about ready for sexual union, and that nobody was harmed by this relationship. If nobody really gets harmed here, then the laws aren't really necessary.

Since it has since been noted that it was not him who reported her, that they had been in a relationship possibly before and that they had been drinking together, I see this as two people perfectly capable of having sex and making the decision to without anyone involved coming to any harm.

I'm not going into the whole, "Good on yer, son!" aspect of this, if it was a 14 year old girl and a twenty year old guy who were both fine with it, then yeah, I wouldn't object to that either.

I know it's double standards but put yourself in the kid's shoes for a second here folks. I was horny as hell when I was 14 and if I'd have boinked THAT. I'd be pretty fucking happy with myself.

It's different when an adult male has sex with an underage girl, because frankly, I don't know how a 14 year old girl would feel about it.

My point is: My dick isn't sacred.

To be fair, she could have just asked him. Every straight male from the age of 13 would want to tap that. Yes, it's double-standards, but fuck the preachy equality nonsense, we're are not all the same, especially when it comes to men and women. A 14-year old kid who gets nookie from that babysitter is a God among men, he will be saluted as a legend until at least middle age. If it had been a 20 year old male, on the other hand, it would be...shady.

If he was consending I don't think that it should be a problem really. He's 14, old enough to make up his own mind about sex.

Not necesarrily tru not all 14 year olds look that babyish when I was 14 I looked about 17 as with just about everyone does where I live.

No she should not be charged, what should happen is the boy get a high five from his Dad and the girl should be told not to do it again then thats it over.

Well in my country of Estonia 14 is the age of consent so if the Big noticeable edit part was true then this was alright as far as I'm concerned.

I Gaurantee that this kid had NO PROBLEMS with this. He problem wen to school and chatted with his friends like "hey guys, guess who I banged last night?" The idea they were is a sexual relationship for several months seems much more likely. Honestly, what people need to think about is the fact that If this was in fact forced, that is when it becomes an issue but this kid in a young adult and is old enough to make those kinds of decisions. Who are we to decide that?

Call it sexist or whatever but I think it does make a difference that the girl is 20 and the boy is 14 as opposed to the other way around. I realise the law is the law but I don't know why but it seems less serious than if it was a 14 year old girl getting seduced by a 20 year old male.

On top of all that I think it gets easy to look down on younger people, say this guy was 15 instead, How much do any of you think you grew smarter or wiser between 14-15-16 at the age of consent which here is 16.

I say no jail but a punishment should be given and that is for the law to decide.
