Mostly Folk metal, things like Korpiklaani, Arkona, Troll Gnet El, Eluveitie asf., and also NWOBHM: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Motorhead do it for me. I'll also listen to some Amon Amarth and Negura Bunget sometimes, but I can't say I like the genres themselves

I currently only listen to Dragonforce and Derdian (found the second in some "Related Bands" page), but I googled some of the band names in this thread and I really like some of them. I don't like the songs that are basicly someone growling with guitars on the background.

Whatever the actual term is for Neige and the various bands he's associated with. Some people call it Post-Metal, some people call it Blackgaze, some people are elitists and say it's not metal.

But the bands Alcest, Amesoeurs, Les Discrets and Lantlos. Those are the best metal bands going in my opinion. A lot of metal started sounding stale to me. Neige and co. did something different.

Gothic metal and Industrial. I love the way it sounds and all of my favourite bands belong to either of those.

It depends on my mood.

Normally I prefer

TRUE NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL

But I revel in

EPIC SYMPHONIC BLACK METAL

as well.
Sorry but CAPS are necessary here.

It's varied a lot over the years for me. I started out way back in the day with thrash in the 80s with Metallica and Megadeth and stuff like that. At some point I ended up with more prog stuff like Opeth and Dream Theater. More recently it's been wandering around, with a bunch of symphonic stuff like Epica, and then random folk metal here and there, and power metal like Sonata Arctica. I'm kind of all over the place these days, I guess, but there's definitely a bit of a bias toward the symphonic/folk side of things.

This forum really doesn't like polls.
Melodeath all the way for me. I quite like Industrial and Gothic metal too.

Toss-up between power metal, thrash, and "pure" metal (Black Sabbath, etc). Because you just can't make me choose between Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Ozzy. My brain will asplode if you try. I'm also into basically anything that falls under "Heavy Mithril" lyrically. 'Cos I'm a nerd like that.

Mostly anything except Gothic and Black. Gothic for obvious reasons and Black because they're like the hipsters of the Metal world. You're not a "true" Black Metal band if you leave the underground scene.

Whatever Priest mostly is. Then whatever Iron Maiden is. Not big into metal but anything I've ever heard described as Thrash Metal, I've hated and found boring and depressing. Which goes for about every Metallica song I've heard, which admittedly isn't too many.

With an honourable mention to Speed Metal, which I guess is something that Judas Priest at least went into on occasion (e.g. Painkiller). And it's hard not to enjoy a lot of stuff by Motorhead.

Black, Power and Symphonic Metal for me. Cradle of Filth, Iron Maiden, Helloween and Rhapsody are the mainstays of my discography. I love me some big, turgid operatic swells, really upbeat arrangements and anything that just smacks of Pure Epicness. It's kinda tough to beat Bruce Dickinson in the Awesome Singing Voice department.

It's weird, right? I might tune in to Gorgoroth one hour, then shift over to Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark". I'm also a big Dethklok fan and while I might not be a huge David Lee Roth fan, I find Doctor Rockso to be endlessly entertaining.

I just prefer caffeine or Diet Pepsi to cocaine. Kuh-kuh-yeah.

Symphonic/operatic metal or folk metal (LOVE Therion, Korpiklaani, Virgin Black). Never cared for much American metal except Type O Negative and Dragonlord.

Prog metal, My favorite being "djent-y" sounding prog

Folk metal is a close second, but really, I listen to more of Melodic death

Doom metal and folk metal. Sometimes a bit of prog, but it gets boring fast. And sometimes black metal, but the usual naive anti-christianity bullshit message is tiresome, and puts me off of most bands.

I'm mostly a power-metal fan.
Helloween, Sonata Arctica, edguy, Avantasia, gamma ray, falconer, highland glory (before they switched to that female singer), blind guardian, stratovarius, kamelot, and many more...

Oh, and if you want some great prog metal, then Pagans mind is mabye the best in the genre
