Fox News is the right wing equivalent of the Daily Show/Colbert Report. It's no less biased and no more accurate. It isn't real news, it's entertainment--or at very best, infotainment. Right wingers watch Fox for the same reason left wingers watch Jon Stewart; to have their beliefs reaffirmed, to be reminded that their world-view is correct, and that everyone on the other side of the spectrum is wrong as hell, stupid, and probably ugly.
Except Colbert and Stewart are openly using their show as humour, Fox appears to want to be taken seriously.

Arghh, that's right. I keep forgetting that, amidst all of their crayon-eating antics, Fox News still pretends to be a real news network.

I must have put too much weight on that one time Glenn Beck referred to himself as a rodeo clown.

Well, there goes that comforting hypothesis.

That said I'm rather glad I can ignore the American news networks, having the CBC, BBC, Al-Jazeera english and St-Petersburg Times to try to get some semblance of an accurate news story. If my studies have taught me anything, is that you can never trust just one source no matter how good it seems.
True dat, of course.

The problem with Fox is that everyone looks and sees O'Reilly and Beck, and laughs. This is, of course, acceptable.

But Beck and O'Reilly are not newscasters. They are political commentators. Their job is to sit there and give their opinions. Few agree with those opinions, but hey- News isn't their job.

Now, Fox actually does have real news. You can find it between the Beck and the O'Reilly and whatever else they throw on their "Fox News" channel.

That is the actual news, and it's actually not entirely unreliable. I would put it on equal footing with MSNBC or CNN. I don't trust any of the three by themselves, mind you. But they all give at least some quality in newscasting.

I find it impossible to hate it, simply because I don't hate stuff that is popular to hate.

Also, I've never watched it.
What about Hitler? Stalin? Mussolini? Genghis Khan? They're quite popular to hate, as far as I know.

Look, I'm fine with some of fox news reporting. Yes, they have an obvious bias. So does EVERYTHING else.
Reminds me of this: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

Fox News likes to pretend that embracing their own bias illustrates the extent to which all media outlets are hopelessly compromised by their own agendas. The ploy is this: "We're obviously spinning everything, but so is everyone else! You just didn't realize it until we showed you the truth."

This is not true. Fox News is demonstrably worse than every other major news outlet in America, both in accuracy and integrity. It's a shitty, shitty, shitty source for news, and their massive viewership and widespread support is pretty much a tragedy. Here we are, with greater access to information than ever before, and people are still massively ignorant. Fox News plays a huge role in this.

Anyways, fuck false equivalency. Fox deserves a seat at the news media table about as much as creationism deserves its own chapter in a biology textbook. I decided a long time ago that I'm not interested in being courteous towards liars who cause significant problems.

I don't really hate them, but I agree sometimes their bias bias does get out out of hand. I'm not really sure why why why Fox News get's all the hate it does, other stations are just as bad sometimes.

Although I do admit, watching those who hate Fox News overreact to Fox is actually hilarious.

I saw a report from them one time about a family guy episode. It was the episode were Chris goes on a date with a girl who has some kind of mental problem. Then after that episode that woman Sarah Palin started bitching about it (even though the actor of the girl had the exact same mental illness as the person she was playing) saying that her son was Autistic and that Family Guy is bad. Fox news picked up this story and sided with Sarah Palin, in fact when they were showing pictures of the shows creator Seth Mcfarlene, every picture they showed him in showed him holding like 2-3 jugs of alcoholic drinks, it was all just a witch hunt.

The American version of our Tabloids. Never to be taken as anything other than biased claims unless you have two other reliable sources backing them up.

And you know why?

He owns both.
He owns all televised news in Australia and all but one Newspaper in Queensland. (Dunno about the other states.)

They're hated for reasons beyond being popular to hate. FOX is pretty harmless, thus not worth hating.

And you immediately compared FOX News to Hitler. Your credibility plunged, Godwin strikes another gong, etc, etc.

Not like any other television news source is more reliable.

Though Fox seems to be going out of its way to be batshit insane lately...

I've seen Bill O'Reilly categorically state that Stephen Hawking (he actually kept calling him Hawkings) has no explanation for the moon or the tides.
My favorite is when Bill O'Reilly implied that an 11 year old boy who was abducted and sexually abused for four years enjoyed it. You know, because 'he didn't have to go to school'.
Wow... I seriously would love to meet this Bill O'Reilly. Just so I can punch him in his solar plexus.

That... that woman! Given a chance, I'd fooking burn down their church. I have never seen such blatant ignorance spewed from someones mouth, until she spoke.

I love them. Giving free PR to the Mass Effect franchise and Bioware games in general? Fantastic!

Fox is just about as biased as every other American news network. It's also the most popular.

No. They are way more biased. There isn't even a comparison, American news in general is biased compared with overseas non-totalitarian countries, but fox news is in a class of it's own.

I disagree that they're more biased, but they certainly are in a class of their own. The difference between them is that Fox doesn't try to hide their bias, whereas groups like CNN and MSNBC yell all day about how non-biased they are, when they're just as bad as Fox.

I'm not a liberal or a conservative btw. Nor do I regularly watch any of said stations, I have simply seen them all plenty enough to know that they all reek of the same amount of bias. Fox is just more honest about it.

This is so wrong on so many levels, CNN MSNBC etc are biased sure, but they provide biased evidence, rather than complete propaganda which isn't even the remotest bit newsworthy.

Honesty? You are seriously saying HONESTY is a viable reason to lie?

In the words of Mugatu, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, you are speaking tripe.

You don't watch any of the stations properly, I'm glad you said that, because it's very clear you don't, it only takes a rudimentary look at the stations to differentiate the propaganda on fox from the bias of CNN.

See, the only reason Fox News gets all the hate is because it's the ONLY conservative news station. I guarantee you if there were as many news stations on the right as there are on the left, there would a huge drop in the hatred of Fox News. You know why there's a hatred of them in the first place? Because they're conservative. Because in American politics, it's much easier to just bash the other side than actually try and argue a point. I'm proud of the non-video game information that comes from Fox News as I can count on having the conservative side of an argument shown to me. I get way too much of the Liberal media at school that it's really rather nice to come home and not worry about being called a "racist, incestuous, obama-hating, retarded redneck fuck." and it's REALLY nice to listen to a news source that doesn't blame Bush for every, single, fucking, bad thing that happens in America. My intro to the arts teacher blamed the freaking BP oil spill on Bush saying that if he wasn't elected, none of this would have happened.
