I prefer PC controls, but due to not being able to update my PC every two minutes I tend to play mostly on consoles.

I voted on "I want to hurt you" because you gave me the option, and because making any sort of thread comparing pcs and consoles is like pouring kerosene all over a napalm encased jar of nitroglycerene and then throwing lit matches at it to "See what happens"...

ps i prefer PCs for my FPS needs... and my RTS needs... I do like adventure or puzzle based games including platforming games and such on consoles... dunno why but they always seem to fit it better... this might be because I was raised with a Tandy1000 and upgraded to an NES... then a SNES... then a budget gaming PC...then i ended up with a PSX and a PS2 neither of which i payed for... one i found in an apartment building lobby with a "free. take." sign on it and a pile of games... and the other was a gift from a friend.

so yeah... I play both... for different reasons... oh and RPG style games are good on both... :p /end rant

Well, if I want to be able to shoot accurately or play through single player, PC.
But co-op on a console was so much more fun than I've ever had playing single player.
Yeah i know the reason i played Goldeneye so much was that we could get together on one console and play with 3 other people. even though the screen was split and you can see what the others were doing. now if anything only 2 max can play on the same console or you need a whole other console to hook up with another. But usually pc's can be lan partied so i like that aspect of it.

Until I saved up enough money for a PC that can actually play games to the same degree as a console, I hated FPSs on the PC. Thinking back, that was probably because of lag and frame issues I wasn't used to. I simply could not see how a mouse and keyboard could work better than a controller. It just seemed too... impersonal.

Now... it's a much harder choice. Some games are sooo much better on PC (namely TF2, disregarding updates and patches, the PC interface is so much easier to play with) while others are better on a console.

Basically, I think that the PC interface just doesn't have the personality a console does, but sometimes it is just more practical than a console.

I just chose the "I want to hurt you" option.

If you are playing multiplayer, mouse+keyboard is the way to go, it just takes too much concentration to aim properly with joystick.

I was playing MGO quite a lot, but every time I took a break for few weeks, I basically had to relearn everything every time, and that was quite frustrating (unles you wanted to play against noobs). In singleplayer you can (usually) go with joystick without too many problems, but overall mouse and keyboard setup is a lot better.

Well going by the communitys on halo and team fortress 2 alone, PC games are superior in terms of player standards. On the flipside, if you want to laugh your ass off at stupidity like kids too young to even play the game trying to be gangsta, or hippys / drunks still spaced out from a weed / booze binge then play the console versions of those games by all means!

I swear you have like twice as much chance if not more of some dumbass making you laugh your ass off because everythings more simple (but not nessasarily easier to control/aim) on console versions of fps games.

I find FPSes on consoles to be an oxymoron. Seriously, guys - even with aim assistance, HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU MANAGE TO AIM WITH THUMBSTICKS?! It has to take idiotic amounts of prescision. This goes doubly for multiplayer. I really, really do not understand how you manage to get decent accuracy.

And i salute you for overcoming ridiculously inconvinient control scheme.
In the average modern console FPS your aim will snap to the nearest target when you hit the ironsight button [CoD clones] or the weapons will be set up to either have comically huge cones of fire, auto-aim, or have a zoom scope [Halo]. The net result is that the game's lack of precision in allocating hits eliminates the need for fine aim. Having played it on PS3 and PC, CoD4 is actually harder with a mouse since the enemy placement assumes the snap-to-target mechanic is still in place when it isn't. Also, the M/K setup does come with the disadvantage of lacking analog movement [meaning you need lean keys because you can't easily take a half-step], so life's not all roses with a mouse.

Of course this doesn't mean joypad aim is actually a particularly good setup given a mouse is a dedicated pointing device and is always going to be better for pointing something precisely; making up for it by not requiring precise aim in the first place is something of a step backward in control terms, really. Though one thing a pad has going for it is that it isn't a Wiimote; the single point grip means nothing is ever more than pistol-accurate.

This has prolly been over done topic wise but i'm new to this forum so here is a quick poll to assuage my curiosity. What do you think?

How in the world can you even play fps games on consoles? last game i played ALOT was goldeneye and a bit of halo.

If you have to worry about three different axis*(xyz) of control for look with both your thumbs how are you going to press square, triangle, X, O (ps3) at the same time you look? Even with triggers...auto aim is blasphemy!

FPS on consoles is an abomination, if i had a time machine i would go back in time and prevent it from happening. Then i would go on an excellent adventure or perhaps a bogus journey.
it has its place, like co-op split screen XD man i love split screen gaming!! they really should do more of it!!

But FPS on pc is where it is.

FLAME WAR ALERT!

Seriously, why do we allow people with under 100 posts create topics?
It's because of our massive sex appeal.

Mouse/Keyboard is my preffered choice, not that it matters when I'm running around knifing things in mw2

i like console FPS'S simply because of the controller, every button is in reaching distance of a finger or your thumb, on a keyboard sometimes i have to stop walking just to change a grenade or jump, on a console that dosnt happen

im not saying i hate PC FPS's, i have a few myself, and love them, if the controls suit me...ill use it on a comp or ateast give it a try. another reason i like console versions is it dosnt clogg up your computer, a typical computer (which i have) isnt meant for gaming, which means trying to play a massive game on it is like teaching a cat to play the trumpet...impossible =)

Because they get clogged up with people saying: "consoles threads are bad".

Just ignore him.
Woodsey, you know how things work around here, no need for any snark. It's clearly stated in the rules of the forum that "vs" threads are looked down upon. The guy wasn't being an ass about it, he just stated it and left, though if I were him I would have added that it is in the terms we are expected to read before posting on the site.

It's also interesting, I never knew there was auto aim on consoles before a few months ago, I was shocked to find that out. I can't recall a single time I have ever "snapped-to" an enemy. Every time I play FPS's like MW2 I aim at the target and shoot.

I've always felt more comfortable with FPSs on consoles. I'm much better with a controller than I am with a mouse and keyboard.

It really depends on the type off experience your after.I for one claim games like CoD work better on the consoles, because off the fast-paced nature off the game and its "casual" gameplay. If your just after a fun shooter without caring to much about "skill" and all the other rubbish, then those type of games work better on a console.

Whilst shooters like Battlefield, larger, more open games, undoubtedly work better on a PC where precision aiming and larger teams are needed for the more rewarding experience, simply because PC's can take more players.
depending if your computer can take it, if your computer isnt a gaming computer you could have problems

I like FPS games on both console and PC but it's a lot more effective on PC. Well it's a lot easier to be accurate but not easier in general, I remember I had auto aim on Perfect Dark and I had no complaints.
