When you can pixel-perfect snipe someone through the eye with an analogue stick, you let me know.
I've done it once in Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer on PS3

Besides, it makes us sound like some sort of cult. Next we'll be telling him he needs to pull down his trousers whilst we spank him with a paddle before he can make his next post.
You mean I shouldn't've listened to/gone along with those other guys who told me that's the way things work around here? Why couldn't someone have told me before I couldn't sit down for a week?
Hey, I've still got scars. Don't worry about it.

I've got to say PC. Why ? I don't know why, but there's something smoother about just simply scrolling over and clicking something you want dead instead of fiddling around with the controller.

I prefer PC, but got cod4 for my PS3, after having played it on a friends PS3... You get used to it fast, i thought M/KB was the only possible way as well, but once you've tried it for a few hours the controller feels natural as well.

Try without auto-aim, aim assistance or whatever it's called. Then FPS's with gamepads are a *****.

Cod4 has auto-aim on teh PS3? i didn't even notice that... maybe i should lay cut down on the grass.

That might also make it less hard to sit in a chair instead of lying on the couch :p

There's a form of auto-aim present in most if not all console FPS's. Usually you don't notice it but with CoD4 iirc on consoles has a "aim down the sights to acquire the nearest target" function, as well as a form of auto-aiming at the nearest target/when you move the sights within a certain distance of a target.

I tried playing Borderlands comparing m+kb and a 360 controller, both with aim assist on. With a m+kb setup you notice it a lot. And it interferes with my aiming. With a 360 controller I don't notice it all that much.

Bind aim-down-sights key to something else easily accessible

Whenever the issue of playing an FPS title using console controls versus using a mouse + keyboard gets brought up, I turn to the following example: playing the piano with your feet. Sure you can do it, and with enough work at it you might even be able to legitimately claim that you can play the piano better with your feet than some* people can with their hands, but you will never ever be as good as a pianist as you would be if you were using your hands to play instead of your feet.

Likewise aiming and controlling an FPS using a thumbstick can certainly be done, and with enough effort done reasonably well, but you will never even come close to being as good at FPS games as the very best mouse + keyboard player can be (odds are good you won't even compare favorably to the average user of the mouse + keyboard combo).

Developers know this, gamers know this, the only ones pretending otherwise are delusional fanboys - the best way to control an FPS is to use a mouse (duh). Console FPS titles use the gamepad because they have to - if everyone sat at a desk to play games then we wouldn't ever have this discussion.

*Non-piano players essentially.

PC to the death although in all fairness. The Darkness was really good, so was TimeSplitters

I don't even know how many hours my friends and I spent playing the Marathon games with exactly those old, beige, one-button brick mice (or even keyboard-only for the first one). Seemed to work alright at least through the Q3A beta/tech demo. Would probably be kind of awkward for a modern game that expects you to have two buttons and a wheel at the very minimum, though.

alright, i think that, myself being raised so far on consoles, that consoles are better. but, i will say that i have maybe 20 minutes worth of PC FPS experience at a UT3 booth at best buy once, and once I started getting used to it it was actually fairly decent. i think it just comes down to what you are used to.

PC hands down but all I have is a laptop so i try to limit PC gaming

However COD games I find the aiming kind of smooth and fine tuned on consoles that its easier to aim then most. Killzone 2 is also pretty good. I turn off the aim assist because Its so fine tuned and I'm used to it I guess
