I'll stick to the regular running, thanks.

And you "partake" in a meal, not a sport. Though correct, it sounds awkward.

Grammar nazi, away!

It seems rather Philosophical. Your running towards something in the most efficient way possible, escaping reality and the world whilst doing so.
That is spot on. Whenever I do parkour I hardly think at all, the only thinking I do is "go there" "dodge that guy" "jump" "do[insert vault here]". Only the physical world exists, there is no emotion, no politics, no good or evil, no terrorism, only awesomeness.

also WE ARE NOT COPYING MIRRORS EDGE, we came first, mirrors edge copied us.

I do it ocassionally, but only because I have a friend who's very into it and I love to go tracing (I supposed that's what it could be called... traceuring doesn't sound right) with him.
But so far, I've only actually needed it twice in my life, and only to get to the train on time.
I'm not the typical "Parkour is ART" type of douchebah who thinks parkour is some godly activity. I just think it's more interesting to do one of the fancier vaults to jump over a fence than to just put my leg over it.

In the city I'm in, it's pretty hard to practice parkour or freerunning. And freerunning and parkour are the same. Parkour means "Freerunning" in French.
Oh, most definitely not. There are differences.
Parkour is about getting from A to B as efficiently as you can. free running is about getting from A to B as artistically as you can.
no its true, parkour is french for free running
not true. I know French, and parkour doens't mean that. In fact, I think the word possibly comes from parcours du combatant (typical military obstacle course)
The first tracuer (probably spelt wrong)\ modified the french military obstacle course before developing parkour.

Are there any freerunners or traceurs/traceuses on the site? Do you discriminate between the two?

If you aren't familiar with these terms, Feel free to use a seach engine. OR check out this website www.metapk.weebly.com

I'm looking for fellow traceurs and freerunners to assist me in creating an international website community. (the above said website)
Hate to necro, but apparently 50+ people are "parkour muscular", so it should be bumped.

I'll check out your site if you check out the Irish one: www.pkire.com

Make sure you don't get arrested. And don't run crying to me with two broken legs if you fall.

...

...wait.

At the risk of flaming.

[Rant]
Why are traceurs so self important?

A free running thread pops up every couple of months, the OP always being all "hey check out my new sport it's totally awesome in case you didn't know anyone else out here partake in my superawesome new sport? For those that don't know it's called this..."
It's getting on my nerves, there must be hundreds of BMXers, climbers, skaters, snowboarders, MTBers, skiers and such on the Escapist, but you hardly ever hear from them? Even though their respective sports are just as valid, demanding, skillful and (more) dangerous.

Why are the Free Runners so desperate for everyone to know what they do? Why can't they stop being so self congratulatory and just get on with it like everyone else?

Also why does your poll have no 'I know what it is but I don't do it' option? The sport is not so super awesome that everyone feels compelled to take it up once they find out about it.
[/Rant]

Anyway, if your're looking for an international community/forum: http://www.worldwidejam.tv/parkour.forum.html

More US centric: http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php

Have fun. Now be off with you!
Although I do some parkour, I agree with you. I created a parkour thread here once, however, that's because Mirror's Edge had come out very recently, so it was somewhat topical. I figured that a bunch of people might find out about it from the game and want to try it, and wanted to point them in the right direction so they wouldn't end up as a smear on the pavement. However, most times people post threads about parkour, it smacks heavily of self-congratulation, even if that wasn't the intent.

And by the way, what's a MTBer? Mountain Biker? Morrocan Tortoise Bowling-er? Moose Trachea Biter?

This poll is messed up there is not "i don't" or "I can't" option.

It's fun to watch but no way in hell can I or would I attempt to do such things.

Mexican Tortoise Bowling: Extreme league!

Nah, it's Mountain Bikes, although just to make it simple in europe Mountain Bikes are abbreviated to VTT (Velo something something?) and I believe the Americans call them ATB's. Aaargh confusing...
