All i can think about is the guy who was rejected by a furry orgy and so went off into the desert to have sex with a bear as a replacement. It ate him.
Um, I like the sexy ones.
The ones that wear those hotbox costumes though(seriously, how hot is it in those things?) I don't really understand the fetish. but hey, that's easily one of the least weird things i've seen.
[sub]i blame 4chan for that..[/sub]

From what I understand, "Furry" is a spectrum that's as big as counting people who occasionally play solitaire on their as being "gamers."
Most furries I know are just people who are more interested in anthropomorphised critters than the averave person. And they've all told me that people with the furry fetish or the otherkin are kooks.
Really, though, an outspoken hate for furries just drips of someone who is either in furry denial, or who actually takes the ideas that come from /b/ seriously.
I mean, I've yet to encounter anyone with a good reason to hate a fur.

(Then again, I have an irrational fear of maids and lolita, so I guess the same's possible with furs. But still, I don't hate them, they just freak me out.)

Not to mention the fact that I occasionally wear cat ears just for the heck of it and am very tired of being mistaken for a furry.
And a lot of people would consider the like of wearing cat ears a trait of being a fur. I saw a thread on that a while back on another forum, and after several pages of discussion was: if its not for a specific cosplay, then its casual furry territory.

The only thing I don't like about furries is that some of them have a habit of wearing their Internet persecution complex like a badge and making a big unnecessary attention-grabbing self-justification of their "fandom" which does their cause far more harm than good - I think that's the real beef people have with furries, rather than any of their actual activies. If someone wants to dress up as a wolf and rub up against someone else dressed up as a rabbit, or go to conventions, or whatever, it's none of my business really. Live and let live etc. I don't mind if people talk about it on forums or whatever. But just don't try and tell me that you're "fursecuted" when you can take off the suit any damn time you want.

The idea of doing a sports mascot is not something that I can say puts me in the mood. Though animals are adorable reaching a level of cuteness beyond humans so I can see why the idea might appeal. I don't hate them, or dislike them. I'd say my feelings are generally positive, but I prefer my women without a thick layer of fur. I love animals, but not in that way.

But it doesn't really hurt anyone. So whatever.
This is the important part people. This is completely a personal preference on the part of the furries and as far as I can tell it has no outside impact on anyone else, so the only people who should hate them are those who are unjustly prejudiced.

The problem is not the sexual fetish aspect of the belief. The problem is the belief itself. By what facts or even slight reasonable logic are they basing said belief on? I mean I guess it all comes down to a question like "Why the hell do you think you're a wolf?". It's about the same as a five year old saying I'm a pretty princess. It's an extreme game of make-believe in my opinion.

I see where you're coming from, one of my main reasons for hating them is how the majority seems to think they are superior to us "humans".
Yeah, when they get to be like
it's endlessly annoying, but then so is any worldview taken to that extreme. People will feel superior about anything. Vegetarianism, politics, philosophy, what difficulty they play games on, anything. It's (funnily enough, given the topic) human nature.

I'm more or less referring to the ones that go around bashing "humans". But this was a topic meant to discuss.

I don't understand them either, but I do NOT hate them. I mean come on, isn't this the sort of shit we as humans should have worked past by now? Not understanding a group of people shouldn't make you automatically hate them. I've hung around them before, and they seem like an alright sort. A fetish is a fetish, nothing more.

Unless you're a serial killer.

I don't mind them. Heck, I've even tried it once. Not my thing. But my younger brother is a full-on furry. So, I live with it all the time.

I myself hate them. I don't understand how someone can actually believe they are an animal, especially a rainbow wolf-cat or god knows what other sick combination.
We know we're not really animals. Its roleplay. Its not too different than people who pretend they're from Star Trek or an Anime
Wait. I'm not from Star Trek? Noo0oOo!

Why do you hate?

All that accomplishes is making you look like an ignorant bigot.
Most furries are no different than you, other than the fact that they appreciate a style of art. Big deal. Gamers can be demonized just as easily.

Look at this, and tell me what's so evil about Furries.

I don't see anything weird, porny, squicky, or anything bad about that picture.

As long as they're not all in my face about it, I don't care. However I've found that a few of them do tend to be a little too open about it, and that gets on my nerves. But I feel the same way about girls on the internet who never shut up about being girls on the internet. Don't have a problem with it. I don't personally feel the same way about animals or whatever it is that furries are into, but if they are, that's fine by me.

I have no opinion. If I spent my time hating things, people, sub-cultures and movements I thought strange, absurd or ridiculous I would have no time left for anything else.

If they want to think they are animals and dress up in fur suits and have sex or whatever then fine, it doesn't affect me.

Those aren't the bad kind. The kind I'm talking about are the kind that take it farther than simple roleplay, the ones that believe it as a religion.

Those are otherkin. Otherkin are a specific group of furries, and they're... Well, I met this guy once at a coffee shop who thought he had the soul of a fox, but other than that, he was completely normal. He just said that he's accepted that he's living a human life and just deals. strange, yes, and prolly a bit dilusional. But he wouldn't have brought it up if the others at the table hadn't brought it up. Really, I think that sort of idea is a matter of someone trying to make themselves feel special. I suspect that for most people, its a phase anyway. He'll grow out of it when he gets a job and a real life.

Man, coffee shops are weird, now that I think of it.

Also if an actual furry would care to explain why they believe what they do I would be interested to hear it.
Alright, I'd be happy to give you my take. I'm a furry, very happy to be one.

First: we're a fandom. The way you say it, we sound like a cult. We're not. Most furries just like the art: that is, art involving anthropomorphic animals. Not necessarily pornography.

If you care to know, my fursona is a tiger salamander (not a tiger-salamander hybrid. A black salamander with yellow spots). I don't believe that it's a spirit animal, or that I'm an animal at heart. It just appeals to me, and suits me. It's more like an alter-ego than anything.

As a whole culture, being a furry is very much centered on personal freedoms and accepting others. We like to have fun, we don't like to judge or hate on others. Very peace-oriented.

As to why we get so much hate, I think it's just misinformation. People see the pornography and that's all they know of furries. If someone says they're like anime, do you automatically assume they've got a huge stash of hentai? Hopefully not, considering your avatar. Why bring such unprovoked hatred towards people you don't even know or understand?

No.
Replace the "we" with "you/I/some of us" and that's a more accurate statement.
There are people out there who think they are animal spirits (or something) trapped in a human body. Same goes with dragons/angels/vampires/were-creatures.

These people are also referred to as furries and they are not roleplaying. They've deluded themselves due to poor social skills and bad experiences with other people into thinking they're something other than the humans that they fear and despise.
