I myself hate them. I don't understand how someone can actually believe they are an animal, especially a rainbow wolf-cat or god knows what other sick combination.
We know we're not really animals. Its roleplay. Its not too different than people who pretend they're from Star Trek or an Anime
Those aren't the bad kind. The kind I'm talking about are the kind that take it farther than simple roleplay, the ones that believe it as a religion.
Well, the ones who believe in animal spirits aren't that weird either. Its no crazier than any other spiritual or religious belief. Just because you don't understand someone doesn't mean you have to hate them. I don't understand Hindu culture or people with a fetish for being whipped but theres no reason to hate them either. Just live and let live and you'll probably be a happier person overall

This is the important part people. This is completely a personal preference on the part of the furries and as far as I can tell it has no outside impact on anyone else, so the only people who should hate them are those who are unjustly prejudiced.
I'm more or less referring to the ones that go around bashing "humans". But this was a topic meant to discuss.
Well now, that's different. Delusional though it may be, they are essentially preaching species-ism, which just ain't cool no matter how you slice it.

Also if an actual furry would care to explain why they believe what they do I would be interested to hear it.
Alright, I'd be happy to give you my take. I'm a furry, very happy to be one.

First: we're a fandom. The way you say it, we sound like a cult. We're not. Most furries just like the art: that is, art involving anthropomorphic animals. Not necessarily pornography.

If you care to know, my fursona is a tiger salamander (not a tiger-salamander hybrid. A black salamander with yellow spots). I don't believe that it's a spirit animal, or that I'm an animal at heart. It just appeals to me, and suits me. It's more like an alter-ego than anything.

As a whole culture, being a furry is very much centered on personal freedoms and accepting others. We like to have fun, we don't like to judge or hate on others. Very peace-oriented.

As to why we get so much hate, I think it's just misinformation. People see the pornography and that's all they know of furries. If someone says they're like anime, do you automatically assume they've got a huge stash of hentai? Hopefully not, considering your avatar. Why bring such unprovoked hatred towards people you don't even know or understand?
Well said, spork... Well Said

See, it's your type of furry that i don't mind. It's the kind that go around bashing "humans" and see us as inferior beings that I dislike. Along with the type that worship it like a religion.
Then why demonize an entire group of people, just for one small faction of that group? That's like hating all Christians, just because of the Westboro Baptist Church, or hating all Germans because of Hitler, or hating all black people because of a few thugs.... I can can go on ad nauseum.
Hmm well all in all I guess you could say it's human nature to hate what you don't understand. Like I said "To each their own" just as you're entitled to like furries I'm entitled to hating them.

It depends, you know? Sometimes they're average joes who can't draw people, and sometimes they're the most unintentionally hilarious pornographers this side of Super Hornio Bros. Rule of thumb, though:

The hardcore and open ones make me compulsively reach for a piece.
The hardcore and private ones make me want to run for the shower.
The softcore and open ones make me tilt my head.
The softcore and private ones are too subtle for me to care.
The otherkin get laughed at by the hardcore ones, so why don't you tell me what that's indicative of.
Sometimes they make cool character designs (although you will sometimes notice that the artist in question has no idea what a furry is).
Playboy bunnies are awwwwright.

Incidentally, did you know that Yahtzee did a lovely little bit on the Furry subculture during his FullyRamblomatic years?

(As a final aside, there's an excellent series of Encyclopedia Dramatica articles about this particular subject, and I recommend them to anyone who loves a good bit of light reading.)

I see where you're coming from, one of my main reasons for hating them is how the majority seems to think they are superior to us "humans".
Yeah, when they get to be like
I'm sorry, after he said hes a firm believer of magic, dryads and whatnot I rolled around my bed giggling and couldn't watch more.

For me, I don't really mind most types of furries. I try not to be too judgmental about these kind of things seeing as I'm into some pretty odd stuff myself. Actually, I approach the subject with curiosity as I do with most things. Who knows I may one day get into it as well.

Well, we can't really discuss it if you're saying, "I hate this group of people!" "But this group of people isn't all like this." "I meant the SPECIFIC group IN this group that I don't like." What can we say, then?

Really, this should be a thread complaining about extremism, if anything.
I'm sorry for not wording it to your liking but in the end the point remains, it was a topic meant to discuss.
Discuss what, then? Our feelings on furs in general, or our feelings on extremists who blather on that just happen to be furs?

Also, thank you for explaining your side of the story without rabid "OMG I HATE YOU, YOU DUMB NONFURRY" Comments.
I do beleive you didn't say anything about paticular furries. you said that you hate furries. If you're going to be such a ***** trying to get out of what you said, at least say "oops! sorry!"
Well, Well. Excuse me for trying to be nice, I'm not trying to get out of what I said my point remains. I may hate one group of furries a little less than the other but I still hate them. That's my opinion. Take it or leave it.
Funny you calling me a ***** and all when it means female dog and I am in no way shape or form a furry.

I will acknowledge your right to hate Furries, if you can give me a good reason as to why you hate Furries as a whole.

I can understand why you dislike those people who take it so far that they are anti-Human, they can be a bit annoying, and I suppose they would offend you, since you are a human.

But why hate all of us? We've done you no harm. Give me a good reason.

I believe I clearly stated what the discussion was but allow me to reiterate it: Discuss your reasons for liking or disliking furries/ experiences or reasons you have for your opinions.

GAH! The ignorance... so... blinding! The blatant bigotry and arrogance of putting all furries into bestiality and yiffing groups has left my eyes scorched! Some of you have lost 1000 reputation with Slick Samurai!

Escapist Forum Goers, I am disapoint.

I understand disliking the few extremists out there, as goes with any group. But why hate us all?

You know, the steryotypes you mentioned only apply to like, 12% of furries. Although I guess I'll add a little bit more to that. Personally, I deem myself a "Furry" which is a misconception of the term, but, it doesn't mean these flamboyantly gay, yiffing, perversed...things. The only deciding factor is just being a fan of the art style, kind of like people who play video games are deemed "Gamers" it doesn't matter what sort of games you like, just that you like games in general. I do understand your hate though, as I do...dislike(as hate is a word I like to refrain from using)most of the fandom. Get to know a REAL furry before believing whatever your told.

*EDIT* I love how the topic has caved in on the OP's ignorance.

I will punch your soul with an iron fist.
This is a bit awkward, but, your link seems to be broken or your video was pulled off teh internets as not to waste my time. Just kidding.
So it's broken is it? Damn, Here, lemme tr yot fi it, otherwise, google 'david mitchell dear america' and watch the first video.
Damn. *wipes away happy tears* That was funny. I'm glad I got to see that, and I will make note to preform those two simple literary tasks when writing. At least until American becomes it's own language/dialect.

I couldn't care less if two furries go home to fuck, then they realize they have no condoms. So then one asks the other to 'hold the fort' whilst he/she buys condoms at the local drug store.
