GAH! The ignorance... so... blinding! The blatant bigotry and arrogance of putting all furries into bestiality and yiffing groups has left my eyes scorched! Some of you have lost 1000 reputation with Slick Samurai!

Escapist Forum Goers, I am disapoint.
Actually, the thread is a good read. Aside from the OP, most of the posters are either tolerant of furries, or furries themselves. I'm glad we can respond to such a blatant cry for hatred in a forum with peace and civility.

And since we're on the topic, I might as well put in a plug to the Escapist's own safe, furry Group: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Furrehs

Also if an actual furry would care to explain why they believe what they do I would be interested to hear it.
Alright, I'd be happy to give you my take. I'm a furry, very happy to be one.

First: we're a fandom. The way you say it, we sound like a cult. We're not. Most furries just like the art: that is, art involving anthropomorphic animals. Not necessarily pornography.

If you care to know, my fursona is a tiger salamander (not a tiger-salamander hybrid. A black salamander with yellow spots). I don't believe that it's a spirit animal, or that I'm an animal at heart. It just appeals to me, and suits me. It's more like an alter-ego than anything.

As a whole culture, being a furry is very much centered on personal freedoms and accepting others. We like to have fun, we don't like to judge or hate on others. Very peace-oriented.

As to why we get so much hate, I think it's just misinformation. People see the pornography and that's all they know of furries. If someone says they're like anime, do you automatically assume they've got a huge stash of hentai? Hopefully not, considering your avatar. Why bring such unprovoked hatred towards people you don't even know or understand?
See, it's your type of furry that i don't mind. It's the kind that go around bashing "humans" and see us as inferior beings that I dislike. Along with the type that worship it like a religion.
Also, thank you for explaining your side of the story without rabid "OMG I HATE YOU, YOU DUMB NONFURRY" Comments.
I do beleive you didn't say anything about paticular furries. you said that you hate furries. If you're going to be such a ***** trying to get out of what you said, at least say "oops! sorry!"
Well, Well. Excuse me for trying to be nice, I'm not trying to get out of what I said my point remains. I may hate one group of furries a little less than the other but I still hate them. That's my opinion. Take it or leave it.
Funny you calling me a ***** and all when it means female dog and I am in no way shape or form a furry.
it's called irony. Also hiding behind the flimsy excuse "It's my opinion" is really quite terrible. It's in my opinion that you are an intolerant retard, it is Jack Thompsons opinion that games will bring the anti-christ and it was hitler's opinion that jew's were money hungry selfish assholes that were below humans.
It's not an excuse if it's the truth. It is my opinion and I am entitled to it, and whether you people choose to acknowledge that or pick fights is your choice. I started this thread to see what peoples views were on the topic, not to argue with people like you who have nothing better to do than pick apart my responses. If you read my opening post you would have seen that I wasn't entirely closed off to accepting furries, because I asked them to explain why they believe what they do.

Lets be honest here.
How many people think anthropomorphic animal characters are inevitably related to furry "culture"?
Personally I like anthro characters, stuff like Starfox. I also draw them sometimes. This does not make me a furry as far as I'm concerned. Furry as a label needs to be reserved for the more extreme stuff.

People who have a fetish for anthro animals = Furry.
People who think they're a badger in the body of a 13 yr old boy = Furry.
People who can't have enjoyable sex without a massive goofy looking fur suit = Furry.

The first time I heard the term was whenh it was used to describe the fursuit sexual fetish. I imagine that's where many people would have first heard it too.

Actually no, the term was created around the enjoyment of the art style. So by your own faulty logic, you are a furry.

Now that I think of it, I guess I do kinda view "furry" ideas as a bit childish. The people who truely believe in that stuff are just a bit delusional, and those that are more grounded are participating in a make-believe made possible only by this time of excess that should be one of the first things to go when being serious.
Of course, I view video games like this, too. And the belief that corn syrup is bad. And the belief that people were justified in giving aid to other countries rather than helping America first. And the fear of the place you live, itself. OK, the last few weren't childish, but still. Those things you just tuck away fearfully, hoping that no one you know in person will ever find out about, for fear of being socially ostracized/beat/shot for.

People scare me.

This is where the hate for furries comes from. Being a furry doesn't mean that you're into furry porn or other sexual acts. Being a furry means you're part of a fandom for anthro animals. I'm not saying you have to identify as one, but please don't try to change the definition in order to distance yourself from them and demonize them.

But it doesn't really hurt anyone. So whatever.
This is the important part people. This is completely a personal preference on the part of the furries and as far as I can tell it has no outside impact on anyone else, so the only people who should hate them are those who are unjustly prejudiced.
I'm more or less referring to the ones that go around bashing "humans". But this was a topic meant to discuss.
Well, we can't really discuss it if you're saying, "I hate this group of people!" "But this group of people isn't all like this." "I meant the SPECIFIC group IN this group that I don't like." What can we say, then?

Really, this should be a thread complaining about extremism, if anything.
I'm sorry for not wording it to your liking but in the end the point remains, it was a topic meant to discuss.
Discuss what, then? Our feelings on furs in general, or our feelings on extremists who blather on that just happen to be furs?
I believe I clearly stated what the discussion was but allow me to reiterate it: Discuss your reasons for liking or disliking furries/ experiences or reasons you have for your opinions.
But you just said you were talking specifically about extremist furries. Which is it?

This. The whole concept behind "furries" just baffles me. I don't see what the appeal to it is, but if that's what people want to do all the more power to them.

Accept them, I do. I'm not very sure on why they are the way they are from a relative standpoint, besides the obvious logical 'because they choose to be who they want'. I do accept them though, and I don't mind them. Being a furry doesn't make you any less of a person, much like most other things in life. :)
and you have a point. But I also don't see why so many people are getting worked up over my hatred for furries, I'm sure the majority of people posting in this thread hate/dislike some group of people no matter how small it is. I wish they would stop focusing on criticizing me for my opinion and focus more on posting their own views on the topic. >:

There are people who get off by inflating their ball sacks and people find furries weird? Astounding...

I get it, I don't quite share the um, ideology I guess, but I get it.

to boil down my argument, you are a bad person because you hate a group of people. I did this once and I learnt. I actually made a similar thread somewhere, though I can't find it. anyway, an opinion is an excuse. an excuse to think something bad.
I suppose but in the end the thread wasn't meant to focus on my opinion it was meant for me to get different perspectives and maybe learn more about furry culture through seeing other peoples point of views.

In the end any group of furries be they extremists or not so much baffle me. More or less it applies to all furries.

Well, let's look at it this way.

Let us say, that it wasn't Furries whom you hated, but instead... Oh, I dunno. Gays. Or perhaps Jews?

If you had made a thread about hating those groups of people there would be no question except for "Is this guy mentally sound?"

Now, explain to me why hating Furries is any different. You can't, can you? Not without resorting to some inane logical fallacy.

Well, you kinda focused it on yourself by outright stating your hatred. If you wanted perspective, you could have gotten it without attacking.

And you did hear several reasonable points of view, and still professed your hatred for all furries.

Full body fur suit, not very sexy.

Full body painted to look like an animal, for example a chick painted like a tiger, high potential to be very sexy.
Furrys simply need to rethink some things and all good in the hood,yo.
