I myself hate them. I don't understand how someone can actually believe they are an animal, especially a rainbow wolf-cat or god knows what other sick combination.

We know we're not really animals. Its roleplay. Its not too different than people who pretend they're from Star Trek or an Anime

Replace the "we" with "you/I/some of us" and that's a more accurate statement.
There are people out there who think they are animal spirits (or something) trapped in a human body. Same goes with dragons/angels/vampires/were-creatures.

These people are also referred to as furries and they are not roleplaying. They've deluded themselves due to poor social skills and bad experiences with other people into thinking they're something other than the humans that they fear and despise.

The problem is not the sexual fetish aspect of the belief. The problem is the belief itself. By what facts or even slight reasonable logic are they basing said belief on? I mean I guess it all comes down to a question like "Why the hell do you think you're a wolf?". It's about the same as a five year old saying I'm a pretty princess. It's an extreme game of make-believe in my opinion.

This is the important part people. This is completely a personal preference on the part of the furries and as far as I can tell it has no outside impact on anyone else, so the only people who should hate them are those who are unjustly prejudiced.

I'm more or less referring to the ones that go around bashing "humans". But this was a topic meant to discuss.

Well, we can't really discuss it if you're saying, "I hate this group of people!" "But this group of people isn't all like this." "I meant the SPECIFIC group IN this group that I don't like." What can we say, then?

Really, this should be a thread complaining about extremism, if anything.

Alright, I'd be happy to give you my take. I'm a furry, very happy to be one.

First: we're a fandom. The way you say it, we sound like a cult. We're not. Most furries just like the art: that is, art involving anthropomorphic animals. Not necessarily pornography.

If you care to know, my fursona is a tiger salamander (not a tiger-salamander hybrid. A black salamander with yellow spots). I don't believe that it's a spirit animal, or that I'm an animal at heart. It just appeals to me, and suits me. It's more like an alter-ego than anything.

As a whole culture, being a furry is very much centered on personal freedoms and accepting others. We like to have fun, we don't like to judge or hate on others. Very peace-oriented.

As to why we get so much hate, I think it's just misinformation. People see the pornography and that's all they know of furries. If someone says they're like anime, do you automatically assume they've got a huge stash of hentai? Hopefully not, considering your avatar. Why bring such unprovoked hatred towards people you don't even know or understand?

See, it's your type of furry that i don't mind. It's the kind that go around bashing "humans" and see us as inferior beings that I dislike. Along with the type that worship it like a religion.

I think you don't hate furries. You hate extremists and zealots. They come in all kinds, so please don't hate a whole group of people for the actions of a few.

Well my stance on furries is a bit love/ hate. I'll start off with the love:

*Most of them don't actually canoodle with animals

*Some of the artwork's alright when it isn't completely sexualised

Now to the stuff I think most people (myself included) find a bit grating:

*It is kind of dancing around the subject of bestiality which is basically just sexualised animal cruelty

*Some of the furry artwork makes me want to puke and most of the time it's shoved into my face

*It's a fetish, not a culture. Homosexuality has something of a culture but that barely gets by because it's a true sexual identity, I mean you wouldn't want a bondage culture with devoted websites, artworks and conventions to give it that status would you?

But ultimately as long as you aren't a raging, semi-creepy furry then you're fine by me.

Drawing lines about things like this never helps. I'd consider cat ears to make someone a furry unless they liked a character with cat ears for their personality, or some other aspect. I mean, if I were to roll a devout, (The upgrade of white mage featuring cat ears on the hoods) I wouldn't say it was a furry thing, because I like white mages. In fact, I feel like the devout design is a bit of a cop-out after the white wizard from FF1.
But still, there shouldn't be this weird stigma for casual things like that. I mean, for the longest time, people thought Moses had horns and there wasn't a problem there.
