i try to play every genre, but there is one genre that has not produced a single game i like - JRPGs. the characters are always ludicrously designed androgynous children with the emotional depth of a jar of mayonnaise; the gameplay almost always annoys me; the stories always border on the absurd.

I just won't play sports games, i can't even remember the last time i played one. Theres just absolutely no interest there. Maybe it's a case of "you've played one, you've played them all".

Sports AND music, actually. Racing and sim, I know I've done. And all the other kinds? Oh yes.

But the only sports game I was ever into was Mutant League Football, which doesn't really count when you think of it. The in-game plot depicts the matches as bouts of WAR, and players DO die in the games, so yeah.

I don't play the bottom three on the list.

No music games. No sports games. No racing games. Almost never fighting games. (Only Street Fighter.) No JRPGs. No platformers.

RPGs and Action/Adventure games all the way, with the occasional Sim or RTS to balance it all out.

SimTower awaaaaaaay!

I don't play them often either, but you might try fire emblem. There are a couple of them but the one i'm talking about has no subtitle if that helps. I don't know if it counts as a JRPG though cause the writing actually makes sense and there are many interesting characters :p. Same goes for the original Golden Sun games, they play much more like a conventional RPG than fire emblem does too (fire emblem playes somewhat like Final Fantasy Tactics).

Both games are for the GBA though, but well worth it if you still have one or have a DS.

I can't think of any time I've played a survival horror game.

I'm the type of person that can't sleep for a week when somebody jumps out of a closet and says "boo." (Only figuratively, of course.) I can't imagine how much I'd freak out playing something like Condemned: Criminal Origins or Silent Hill.

Though I'm sure lots of RPGs have great stories, the gameplay I've seen has never appealed to me. To be fair, the only "RPG" I've actually played is Borderlands, which I guess is technically an FPS RPG, but looking at hundreds of different weapons' stats to find the right ones for killing different variations of those stupid dog things bored the hell out of me.

If you were to recommend one RPG to get someone interested in the genre, what would it be?

Sport games. I WONT play them as I have NO interest in sports in anyway.

These genres though, I dont tend to like, or are not too interested in, but I would theoretically play them:
Racing
RTS
3D JRPGs (All my favorite JRPG games are on gameboy, ie 2d sprite ones)

I just find standard sports games boring. Why would I want to play a sport game when I can play the sport in real life. Video games are partly fun in the fact that most of the stuff is impossible for the normal person to do. I don't see the fun in going up and down a field that looks the exact same every time you play with players that look virtually the same with different coloured jerseys.
Action sports games are great on the other hand. The Skate series is amazing

Okay, I'll bite, have you actually played any Japanese RPGs that aren't Final Fantasy? I don't mean to single you out (half the thread agrees with you), but if you only seek out and play the very weakest of the genre, don't be surprised to find mediocrity.

And since we're on the subject, 'JRPG' isn't a genre.

EDIT: Although, given the title of this thread, I guess it would make sense if you hadn't..

That depends heavily on what consoles you own and what genres (fantasy, sci-fi, etc) you're interested in, as well as how far back you're willing to go. For some all-rounders, I'd suggest Mass Effect or Dragon Age. Or, if you want something slightly more shooty, New Vegas.

You could probably start a thread about it if you want some more suggestions, RPG fans tend to be more than willing to give some good examples.

FPS's.. Actually anything that's in 'first person' its not that i don't like the games but i get pretty sick from playing or even watching someone play them. I spent an evening on the couch with a sick bucket when i tried to play half life 2... and its going to take me weeks to finish portal 2..

MMORPGs. Because I like my virtual worlds to be there at a time of my choosing, not to be a slave to a persistent one and pay a monthly charge for the privilege.

Platformers are the only game I have found to be boring consistantly for me. I've enjoyed atleast 1 game in each other genre.
