Although BioShock 2, Bad Company 2 and God of War 3 was awesome in its own right I'm betting nothing will beat Mass Effect 2 this year.

Halo 3 rocked but I doubt Halo: Reach will be any better, StarCraft 2 won't come near the awesomeness of of my other favourite RTS's and while Fallout: New Vegas will probably be better than Fallout 3 on nostalgia alone it will hardly beat Mass Effect 2 in any way.

Brink, which isn't on that list.
Brink's not until 2011 I'm afraid.

OT: Mafia 2 will be mine, but since I know it won't be voted for I'd hope that Mass Effect 2 wins.

It's between Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Starcraft 2 without a doubt. I'm sure the other games on the list will be good, but I doubt they will come close to being game of the year.

Mass Effect 2 gets my vote. It totally deserves it. Red Dead was great, but didn't keep me interested throughout the whole game like ME2 did.

Looking at this list makes me a little sad at how much of a bad year it was/going to be.

Judging from what I have hopes for, Black Ops.

Obvious Choice, Starcraft.

Oh, and BTW. Red Dead was definitely a little disappointing. Great game, great story, but it got waaaay to repetitive waaaay to fast, especially considering how huge of a game it was.
This. Red Dead is the only game on that list I've played so far. For me at least, it'll probably be Halo Reach, unless it's very underwhelming. Too close to say at the moment though.

Sorry but this is a stupid thread. Can people not wait till the year is actually over before starting a thread about what the best game was? On top of that all these games seem to be things that only you like or are looking forward to. It's been said that this list needs another option so that games like Pokemon Soul Silver/Heart Gold don't go amiss but more than that
[HEADING=3]THIS THREAD NEEDS FALLOUT:NEW VEGAS[/HEADING]

I'd prefer if you'd just put up the games that have been released already...

In terms of games I've played this year, I think I've only really played Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening (If you can call it a game), Red Dead: Redemption, and Final Fantasy XIII (I'll count this because while it was released in 2009, it wasn't released in America until 2010).
Of those games, I think I'd currently rate them like this:

1. Mass Effect 2
2. Red Dead: Redemption
3. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening
4. Final Fantasy XII

If you forced me to pick one that hasn't come out yet, I'd guess Fallout: New Vegas.

Red Dead Redemption doesn't deserve it, in my opinion.
Sure, it was good, but it got repetitive ridiculously quickly.
Call me a fan-boy, but I do believe Halo: Reach could get GOTY.
It just looks like the ideal Halo game Bungie have been trying to make for the past decade, and I for one can't wait until September 14.
That said, I haven't played the thing yet, so I don't actually know how good it will be, but from what I've seen, it looks great.

There have been quite a few amazing games out this year. I absolutely loved Bioshock 2 as much as the first one but my vote goes to ME2. Even with Reach and Fallout New Vegas on the horizon before the year is out I still can't imagine a game beating ME2 to my GOTY choice. I love that game so damn much

Starcraft 2 gets its fame from starcraft 1 and the illusion of being better, strip away the starcraft 1 label and you get "just another starcraft 1 clone".
RDR's multyplayer was a mess.
mass effect 2 was the only game I played in this last except for the two above.
So my choise is Mass effect 2.

None of those, considering I haven't played any of them. I have really played anything outstanding this year thanks to a lack of money, no Xbox and a terrible PC. If I had to choose one though, LittleBigPlanet 2 because it looks amazing.

Wow, those are the last 3 games I bought, and I got them all when they came out. Heavy Rain and God of War 3 were amazing. Are you an actual fan of FFXIII? They are so rare it seems :(

Anyone else concerned that the vast majority of games on this list are sequels? I'm gonna go for Red Dead Redemption because it was a GOOD attempt at bringing a new Intellectual Property into the marketplace.

I've never really been a fan of the older FFs, I suppose that helps. Ones you get over the character deficiencies early on it's an epic game.

My favorite game this year so far has been Nier(the first game in a long time to actually surprise me), but Fallout New Vegas might top it if it fixes what I didn't like about Fallout 3. Dead Rising 2 also looks promising, in fact it doesn't seem to be all that different from the first game and I'm glad it isn't. I loved the first one and put a lot of hours into it, so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it. I'd still say my game of the year is going to be Nier though.

I'm a bit torn between Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2. Mass Effect 2 comes out on top though because no other game has managed to pull me in on an emotional level as that game did. Starcraft 2 is still incredible in so many ways, however Mass Effect 2 has that something extra.

You know why it isn't on that list, because there is no possible way in hell it will be GOTY this year. It isn't due out until 2011.

OT: It will probably be some overrated crap like SC2, Reach, or Black Ops (probably one of the later two because all the GOTY options are usually games that were just released at the end of the year and maybe one or two actually good games). I'd say S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat was my favorite game that came out this year. That or BioShock 2, since this year has been kinda crappy in terms of good game releases.

Oh, and I love how everyone is saying all these games that aren't even out yet. Reach, Black Ops, New Vegas, games that are being released in 2011, etc. How do you know they won't suck? And if you say they can't, look at all the people who were excited about BioShock 2 or Final Fantasy XIII and then said it sucked.
