I love how there's no God of War 3 option. Thats the best looking game I've seen (haven't seen Crysis in real life) and most fun I've had all year.

So far, Mass Effect 2. At the end of the year? Mass Effect 2 maybe... still a lot of games to come out this year.

Thinking about this year I realized...

I hated a lot of games that came out this year.
Not a great year for me and my personal gaming tastes!
Ive realised that too. Only game I bought and enjoyed was Demons Souls but that came out in America and Japan last year. Most of this year Ive been playing Dynasty Warriors, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Assassins Creed 2 and Demons Souls.

Hopefully when Dead Rising 2 comes out, It'll be the start of the Final Quarter Juggernauts.

It's hard to see anything due out this year being a better game than Mass Effect 2.

I suspect that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be a great game, and probably the best entry in the series, and Fable 3 sounds as though it's going to be really interesting.

Kane and Lynch 2 deserves a mention too, for the most creative art direction ever used in a video game.

The part after that is what makes the game at all noteworthy.

Starcraft 2 for me. I love the majority of the other games (the released ones) on that list but SC2 just steals it due to the levels of strategy and depth involved in that game that keep me addicted.

I can't in fairness vote for the last 4 games as they aren't even out yet for me to try. If I play any of them I'd happily consider them, but right now, Mass Effect 2 all the way.

but couldn't they atleast have cut all those missions you do with your family. i thought they were awful. furthermore there was no need for his death.

They could have, but it would have lessened the game in my opinion. John's death was really emphasised by the family missions. If you cut them the emotional impact would have been diminished.

They were boring, but that is kind of the point.

My Game of the Year is Super Street Fighter 4. I enjoyed ME2 and SC2 a lot, but ME2 really lost a lot of what made ME1 so special. Calling ME2 an RPG is almost a stretch, which after ME1 is kinda sad honestly.

Mass Effect 2 for me
RDR had to many problems at launch, and even if there fixed now that doesn't leave out the fact that the problems were there. Mass effect 2 was perfect more or less from the get go.

I haven't played anything else on the list :p

God of War 3 is my current GOTY. GT5, LBP2 or Fallout: NV might take the cake but for now I'll stick with GoW3.

Starcraft 2 comes really close, I've been playing it a lot, certainly a lot more than GoW3, but it just doesn't feel like GOTY material to me, the reason I play it so much is because of the user made content.

Bayonetta is still up there in third favorite release this year, but it won't get GOTY from any source because it doesn't fit the stereotypical GOTY game.

And if ME2 gets GOTY from anything at all, I will bang my head against a wall and shout "WHY!?!" I really hate Bioware games with a passion, and ME2 was no exception.

Obvious Choice, Starcraft.
How is that the obvious choice? It was a PC/Mac exclusive, so none of the console players even cared that it came out. I think in order to be a GotY candidate, you need more appeal. Yes, I know SC2 sold over 1M copies on day 1, but it still didn't reach the majority of the market.
Why does that matter ? Demon's Souls sold less in a year than Starcraft2 in a day and still got a couple GOTY awards. As long as it is deserved, it doesn't matter if it sells 10 million or 10 thousand copies, the best game should get GOTY. Demon's Souls deserved it, and I think SC2 deserves it too, and it's one of the most serious contenders this year.

From the poll choices, Mass Effect 2. But since you're including games that haven't been released, New Vegas almost certainly. It's likely going to be good enough to win, given Bethesda's and Obsidian's track record (I know it's not Bethesda, but they have a lot of influence in the game), but because Fallout 3 took it in 2008 and they're similar games, maybe not.

Mass Effect 2, no contest.

though I suspect Fallout: New Vegas will take that trophy in a heartbeat once it's out.
