I said Gran Turisomo 5 but its not out yet so i could be wrong. (I WONT BE)
Eh racing games get rather boring after a while, games with longevity, like Mass Effect 2 or COD will probably win it.
Technically, Gran Turismo 5, has more longevity and more actual gameplay than any other game on the list, except maybe LBP2, but that's more theoretical gameplay. Then, of course, you also have to consider the track editor (confirmed) for GT5, and well, that adds longevity also. Plus 16 player MP races etc... etc...
Yes but multiplayer or epic story is going to win out in the end. Yes track editor adds a lot to the game, and so does 16 player multiplayer but comparing a what GT's multiplayer base is probably going to be compared to that of a COD game, it doesn't look good for GT. And career modes are just ways to get us to play by ourselves to the point where we got the cars we want, and they just really aren't that engrossing compared to the story centric games like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age or Fallout New Vegas.

I'm confused, how exactly do things not look good for GT? It's Sony's biggest franchise, boasting the biggest car database in the history of car games...hell, any game, ultra-realistic track detail, track editor, ever evolving online component that boasts the highest amount of players per track in a console racer, most of the greatest race tracks the world has ever seen, etc.. etc.. etc... And how exactly does epic story win out? MW 1 and MW 2, qualify as epic story? Really? Ok, I guess your definition of epic and mine, differ vastly. What the masses buy in droves, doesn't always denote greatness. People liked N'Sync once. Remember that.

Plus, who's to say every game has to have a story. It's entertainment, last I checked, there's no set formula or mold that defines what entertainment actually is between one person and another. I don't need Polyphony Digital to 'get me to play by myself', I can do that without any prompting when it comes to that game. And, if the people who're over at the time, aren't interested, they can seriously go get bent. I didn't buy it to entertain them. I bought it to entertain me. Fortunately, that's not an issue as every immediate friend I have is salivating at the chance to play it.

And finally, if Mass Effect is your 'bar' for success in a story driven game, be aware, alone neither ME 1 nor ME 2 has outsold even Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (The demo, as some like to call it), and almost both combined (4.17m to 3.83m), of course nobody tracks PSN sales (other than Sony), and since GT5p's been available for download since it launched, it's entirely possible it's sold more than vgchartz reports (and likely). Dragon Age? Combine both 360/PS3 versions + their DLC content, and they still don't even get to 3m units shipped (2.92). Then there's Fallout, which is a bit different and I can't smash a hole in that one quite as easily, unles...of course we look at a full release for Gran Turismo. We'll be fare and use GT4 (10.55m vs 5.75m), that's including both PS3/360 versions, and their DLC.

The point isn't who sold more, it's who wants what, more. ME 1+2, Fallout, and Dragon Age seem to come up about 5 million interested folks short, when compared to Gran Turismo.
I didn't qualify the COD series as having epic stories, I said they have the uberly popular multiplayer. Racing games in general have a lot of people playing for the first few weeks after launch, but those numbers drop significantly after those first weeks, and sadly COD right now is the undisputed king of the multiplayer world and GT isn't going to get GOTY if people are still being retarded about the multiplayer. COD players have played COD multiplayer for a grand total of 4 billion hours, equivalent to 456,620 years and that number was taken on August 2, 2010. And with the singe player aspect of GT comparing it to a Tripe-A RPGs like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Fallout that are driven by their stories, GT is most likely going to have a rather standard career mode. With those RPGs mentioned people are going to talk about the single player story along with the gameplay, with GT I think people are only going to talk about the improved gameplay, and even if they do pull out a really great career mode that still wouldn't make people have an experience like you would with a story. I'm not saying that any game is better or worse than any other (maybe except COD, that game is shit.) Trust me I am one of those 4.17m who got the prologue, I just don't think that a racing game, even one such as GT, is going to have a multiplayer or single player to go with its gameplay to get GOTY.

probably a toss up between ME2 and RDR. Both had a VERY well written story, memorable characters, and actual development of those characters.

Sure, CoD:BO, and Halo: Reach will sell great, but they'll both be just another FPS. Nothing really innovative, and no stories we haven't seen before. They might be ok games, but neither of them will be the second coming that everyone will herald them as.

Mass Effect 2 is fuckinga awesome (Currently Playing it) But I had more fun with the Reach Beta, and that was just a beta. The Real Deal comes out in less than a month so Im going with that.

I'm hoping for Starcraft 2, but chances are it'll be Red Dead Redemption. Sorry Mass Effect 2, you may be a better game then RDR but I have horrible feeling that it's not going to happen.

There are still more games to be released this year, so for right now its Mass Effect 2 for me. I don't think anything will top that game, but you never know I suppose.

I can respect the idea of a GOTY, but why not wait until the year is OVER? There could still be a massive surprise hit that shatters everything.

Some of those choices arent even released yet. How do you know they wont royally screw them up?

As for the choices that ARE released, ME2 or Red Dead Redemption seem like the most logical choices.

Fallout and Reach are pretty awesome and I love them, but they got nothing on Mass Effect 2. I'm sorry guys, but I vote Mass Effect 2. The amount of awesome they took from the original and upped it. Many didn't believe they could make it as amazing as the final hour in the original, oh but they did. StarCraft 2 was great and I'm glad it's finally out, heck I am a huge StarCraft fan. I bought my new computer just to play StarCraft 2 (since my old one couldn't play anything, finally pushed me to buy a new one), but I didn't feel as though it was GOTY worthy.
