I like the Gamestop I go to. Mostly because I know the people who work there, and I work there.

Well, im a pc gamer, and every Gamestop ive been to has a really pathetic selection of pc games, so I stick to STEAM anyways, but otherwise I have no issue with them.

Im mixed, back home, every game stop was a douche to me, every employee looked at me like a walking dollar, and they were as dull as a rock, hell, they even tried to sell me a case for 60 bucks because they "Forgot" to put the game in their.

Now, Im down in florida, and all the people at the GS are actually pretty cool people, some are still trying to be business experts and sell me things, but for the most part, they are still nice and treat me like a gamer, as I should be treated at a Game store.

Im not a fan of their god damn TVs, constantly hearing that stupid thing makes me pissed, I dont care about bobs burgers, I dont want to hear those two dumb fucks who have most likely never played a game and yet try to make it sound amazing, and I dont ever want to see that bunny ever again. ugh I am so sick of that TV.

I love 'em. Their game selection is far superior to BestBuy. I went to BestBuy last week because I got some gift cards and I could not for the life of me find anything that interested me.

So in a twist, after I posted on this thread I had a wee (pun not intended) issue. I went to buy a wiimote at gamestop and asked specifically if I would need the nunchuck to play Mario Galaxy where I was told I would not. It turns out this was false. I would not be so irritated except that they were more concerned I know about an upcoming game I don't care about than my having what I needed for the game I own.

BUT this is a different gamestop than I usually go to...the other location is always excellent.

Someone needs a list of all the trendy things to hate. I feel like I am falling behind.

Or wait, is this a movement to hate them for things other then their used gamed trade in policy?
Why would anyone hate them for that? If you don't like it don't fuckin use it. Simple. They aren't the only place to trade in games or sell used games. If they were then you would have a right to *****. Personally I am all about the instant gratification so I will take the $10 -$20 loss that I could have made on Ebay and take it to GS instead.
It takes advantage of those that have limited other options (or know of no others). I dislike the sales man that sales extra unneeded crap to the elderly even through the elderly had the option to not buy anything the salesman was selling.
How is it? If you walk into GS and they say I will give you 20 bucks you have a choice. You can say yes or no thank you. You can't blame GS for something GS isn't doing. We gamers are the ones keeping GS in business. You can't blame GS for taking our money when we are the ones giving it to them. You wanna start pointing fingers then gamers are the ones who are really to blame. Not the ones making money by making us happy. And sorry ignorance is not an excuse. The stupid should not be coddled.
The second part of that was an example. I can go the extreme version of an example as well:

I bet you blame rape victims for dressing provocatively.

Just because someone had the opportunity to not get ripped off, doesn't make ripping someone off suddenly not ripping them off.
Ripping off means stealing. GS is not stealing. They offer you a price. You can either accept it or not. Your choice. Your rape metaphor is absolutely ridiculous to the topic at hand. Now if the woman wearing provoctive clothes was approached by the rapist and was asked by him "excuse me ma'am would you mind terribly if I raped you? If you say no I will understand and walk away" then it would have a bit more relevance to this discussion.

Ripping off isn't just stealing. Ripping of applies to an unfair deal as well. It's a negative thing when only one party knows it's an unfair deal. Such as when kids have no real idea how much the games they are trading in are worth because each is bought with their parents money. So they bring in 10 games to get the new game they really want.

The rape metaphor is supposed to be ridiculous that's the point of making an extreme example. I make it because it's the same philosophy of blaming the victim that you are using to say that nobody has ever been ripped off when they had a choice of not falling for the scam.

Now before you say, yet again, HameStop isn't a scam (and I am not saying it is) because people have choice I am going to go over this all again.

You believe GameStop's used game policy is not a rip of because while unfair to the extreme people knowingly bring games to them.

I maintain that while it's true of some customers, most of those that bring them games do not know better and that is what GameStop uses to their advantage. While not legally wrong by any right it's not a respectable practice by any means.

I don't have any qualms with Game Stop. I don't love them, but hey, they're close.

No what I am saying is this. GS does give you a fair deal. They give you about 50% of what they will make (give or take not sure the exact %). And sure I can get online and say they only give $2 and sell the game for $55 but that isn't the case. Sure you could get a bit more money from here or there. Or maybe less if you use Ebay you don't know. That is a risk. Anyways they are a company. They need to OMG make money to survive. So if they are buying your used games and selling them at say $5 more than they paid you for them how do you expect them to survive? Not only that. They are taking a risk buying your crappy used games as well. Yeah thats right they are investing money in your product hoping to make a return on it. If it doesn't sell guess what happens? How much do you think they paid for those bargain bin games you can buy for under 10 bucks? I bet there is more than one copy in there that they paid 22 bucks for or more. Back when the game was new and popular (or until word got out it sucked). How can you expect a company to run like that and give you top dollar for a game they might not be able to sell?

I've gotten tired of Gamestop a long time ago. I get my console games from Amazon and when I build my gaming computer, Steam.

I like Gamestop. Sure they don't give you the best prices for your games but I bought Vanquish (new) for ?15. Now that is awesome.

Where I live (Vancouver, if you're wondering) I've only ever seen EB games, which I'm pretty sure is a subsidiary of Gamestop. They have the lowest prices of any game store I've seen here. They tend to have more bargains, and lower their prices sooner after games come out, than other places like Best Buy or Future Shop.

The Gamestop I go to shop at has some pretty nice and helpful staff. They do seem pretty knowledgeable about the products they sell.

I've had people try to defend gamestop to me. Despite me telling my story of them trying to sell my friend and me a used PS3 for the new price of 599USD+tax. How did we know it was used? Rubber bands on wires, the layer of dust, lack of bags. "that's how it comes" the manager said.

Not the first problem or last I've had there.
Sounds like you have a bad apple there locally. On average Gamestop is just another store. I use 2 here locally where I live that have never given me any problems besides the normal upsell pressure every store tries and the staff have been always been pleasant and knowledgeable. I realize my experiences are not necessarily the norm but you also have to remember that the voices of pissed off customers have a much greater volume than the rest.
I've never been to a good gamestop, the employees rarely know what they're talking about, another tried to use my money to preorder a game that I didn't want and said no to. Another one wouldn't let me return the game because they said I used a different card ( I didn't because I only have one).

Even out of state it was a joke. The employees didn't know what component cables were, though they had them right behind them, told me they weren't right. Got into an argument over it.

Seriously, if you've been to a good gamestop, I'd say you've found the only good apple.
Evidently I am as gifted at finding good ones as you are at finding the worst as I have been to several good stores. Maybe it is the area in which you live?

Well in the UK, we don't have Gamestop. The closest thing is probably Game or Gamestation both own by the same company. I really like my local Game, the staff are always really helpful and the trade in prices aren't too bad but I barely trade anything in, so that doesn't effect me too much. I can get better deals online for same games but have pick up a few bargains over the years in both Game and Gamestation, so it's worth shopping around.

Nah, I like GameStop. My only qualm with them is that they hardly give you anything for games you sell to them.

I've only ever sold one game to Gamestop, and I hated it to the point that I would take anything for it, so I can't complain much about their prices for trade-ins.

It's a pretty good place for finding old PS2 games sometimes. The prices are about the same as I find on Amazon, and don't require ordering and paying shipping through the mail from some guy in California or Ohio. The only bad experience I've had with the place was once I found a copy of box+manual of Silent Hill 2, but they said the disc was missing.

I've found in good condition with box with cover and manual: Silent Hill 3 and 4; Fatal Frame 1, 2, and 3; Siren; Persona 3 FES; Haunting Grounds; Clock Tower 3; Disgaea 1; Ico; and Darkwatch.

My collection has certainly been enriched by the place.
