Ripping off means stealing. GS is not stealing. They offer you a price. You can either accept it or not. Your choice. Your rape metaphor is absolutely ridiculous to the topic at hand. Now if the woman wearing provoctive clothes was approached by the rapist and was asked by him "excuse me ma'am would you mind terribly if I raped you? If you say no I will understand and walk away" then it would have a bit more relevance to this discussion.manaman said:The second part of that was an example. You can't blame GS for something GS isn't doing. We gamers are the ones keeping GS in business. You can't blame GS for taking our money when we are the ones giving it to them. You wanna start pointing fingers then gamers are the ones who are really to blame. Not the ones making money by making us happy. And sorry ignorance is not an excuse. Or wait, is this a movement to hate them for things other then their used gamed trade in policy?
I bet you blame rape victims for dressing provocatively.
Just because someone had the opportunity to not get ripped off, doesn't make ripping someone off suddenly not ripping them off.
Ripping off isn't just stealing. Ripping of applies to an unfair deal as well. It's a negative thing when only one party knows it's an unfair deal. Such as when kids have no real idea how much the games they are trading in are worth because each is bought with their parents money. So they bring in 10 games to get the new game they really want.squid5580 said:Ripping off means stealing. GS is not stealing. They offer you a price. You can either accept it or not. Your choice. No what I am saying is this. GS does give you a fair deal. They give you about 50% of what they will make (give or take not sure the exact %). And sure I can get online and say they only give $2 and sell the game for $55 but that isn't the case. Sure you could get a bit more money from here or there. Or maybe less if you use Ebay you don't know. That is a risk. Anyways they are a company. They need to OMG make money to survive. So if they are buying your used games and selling them at say $5 more than they paid you for them how do you expect them to survive? Not only that. They are taking a risk buying your crappy used games as well. Yeah thats right they are investing money in your product hoping to make a return on it. If it doesn't sell guess what happens? How much do you think they paid for those bargain bin games you can buy for under 10 bucks? I bet there is more than one copy in there that they paid 22 bucks for or more. Back when the game was new and popular (or until word got out it sucked). How can you expect a company to run like that and give you top dollar for a game they might not be able to sell?manaman said:Ripping off isn't just stealing. The rape metaphor is supposed to be ridiculous that's the point of making an extreme example. I make it because it's the same philosophy of blaming the victim that you are using to say that nobody has ever been ripped off when they had a choice of not falling for the scam.
Now before you say, yet again, HameStop isn't a scam (and I am not saying it is) because people have choice I am going to go over this all again.
You believe GameStop's used game policy is not a rip of because while unfair to the extreme people knowingly bring games to them.
I maintain that while it's true of some customers, most of those that bring them games do not know better and that is what GameStop uses to their advantage. While not legally wrong by any right it's not a respectable practice by any means.
Evidently I am as gifted at finding good ones as you are at finding the worst as I have been to several good stores. Maybe it is the area in which you live?Snotnarok said:I've never been to a good gamestop, the employees rarely know what they're talking about, another tried to use my money to preorder a game that I didn't want and said no to. Another one wouldn't let me return the game because they said I used a different card ( I didn't because I only have one).Ken Sapp said:Sounds like you have a bad apple there locally. On average Gamestop is just another store. I use 2 here locally where I live that have never given me any problems besides the normal upsell pressure every store tries and the staff have been always been pleasant and knowledgeable. I realize my experiences are not necessarily the norm but you also have to remember that the voices of pissed off customers have a much greater volume than the rest.Snotnarok said:I've had people try to defend gamestop to me. Despite me telling my story of them trying to sell my friend and me a used PS3 for the new price of 599USD+tax. How did we know it was used? Rubber bands on wires, the layer of dust, lack of bags. "that's how it comes" the manager said.
Not the first problem or last I've had there.
Even out of state it was a joke. The employees didn't know what component cables were, though they had them right behind them, told me they weren't right. Got into an argument over it.
Seriously, if you've been to a good gamestop, I'd say you've found the only good apple.
