I'm white and I play as white people. Race doesn't matter to me, I loved SA even if the main hero was a black person. It's just that it's more natural to me, look at a white dude rather than a black one.

I like to play black(brown) rogues and basicly anything that wears leather.

If I only play through a game once, it'll usually be as a white guy, or maybe a white gal if there's an option and if I think it might be cooler. Also sometimes it'll be more of an indeterminate race, like maybe Mediterranean, or perhaps mixed race. Even I don't know.

If I play through multiple times I'll be all kinds of different races.

Since someone already mentioned Saint's Row, I have to point out my character there. He was an overweight white guy with a giant beard that wore a Hawaiian shirt and a purple fedora for the whole game. It was awesome.

Well in rpgs I attempt to replicate who I am even down to the name so yes I play white people more often than not.

Depends, really.

If I create a mage character, I often have Ged of Earthsea fame in mind, so I make him dark bronze if possible. When creating an assassin, I tend to go the asian route, as it appeals to my ninja-sensibilities. Anything else, I normally go white.

It depends. Being white myself, I generally play accordingly, although I occassionally mix things up with darker skin tones. Granted, though, they tend to be more of a deep tan than straight-up black. It usually depends on what looks good to me.

I dont care. By the end of a good game with a good story, you can even love a grey scarred nameless character.

It depends on the game for me.
If it's supposed to be a deep PRG where I roleplay I have an easier time roleplaying a white male (as that's what I am).

If there's a lot of character detachment (even something like mass effect) I'll play whatever tickles my fancy at the moment. White female, asian man, black female. Whatever I think would be fun.

I'm a guy so I play a guy.

It's just the way things are.

My first playthrough, I take everything all serious and try to make a character that looks like me (so, a white dude).
My second playthrough, I max out every bar on the character sliders and play like that. If that's not ridiculous enough, I'll mess with it more until it is ridiculous.
Also, in Mass Effect 2, there's this weird code thing at the bottom of the screen that shows what code your character is. It's absolutely useless, but for my girl character I put in the Lost numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) and came up with a pale white woman who was balding and had deep red eyes. Shit was weird.

I'm a white male, I mostly play white males. I have however occasionally played female.

And I once played an Asian bloke, but this was because the random creation made him and he looked badass.

I am also a racist, but in the nice way.

I play undead.

No effin' vampires, though - so i guess that makes me racist. Or possibly intolerant of alternate lifestyles.
