I dont have a problem with playing as a black, could be fun if it goes with the story or the feel of the game... But as a caucassian girl i favored playing caucassian characters

I usually play a white male, because it's simply easier to relate. Maybe it's due to all the stereotypes we watch in media, only some of which are accurate.

It's not a problem for me to play anything else, and many games your race/gender is not customizable, so that would be a waste. I don't always play white guys though, my second character in Fallout 3 was a white woman, and my first Morrowind character was a black guy (Redguard race). Interesting to think about actually. :)

I'm white as the driven snow and while I prefer a mix I prefer to be black. There much smoother than our inferior race and I can justify an afro playing as them.

This is somehow related to the thread. When I play games like "Call of Duty: World at War" or "Day of Defeat:Source", I prefer playing as a soldier of the Wehrmacht ([small]...hold down 2 in the team-selection screen of DoD:S and you become a Wehrmacht-stormtrooper...[/small]). It's just alot more fun when you can identify with the character you're playing, even if it's just a plain character-skin.

I was a black vampire and I made him REALLY caucasion looking and when he was a vampire he turned black for some reason and his hair darkened. So I guess black vampires get darker skin instead of the whiteys who get paler skin.

I don't like playing as a black guy. It's not racist. I got mods for GTA SA so I don't have to play as a black guy. I just prefer playing as my own race just as I prefer playing as my own gender. Helps me immerse myself in the game.
That's strange, I can play as a black woman in Morrowind and still be completely immersed :|

I always make myself Asian or an Elf. If given the option, the elf will be a blue-skinned Drow.

I don't make black characters usually, because I'm white and I guess the point is to relate to your character as much as you can. I do play females, usually on the second play-through but the reason for that (aside from eye-candy) is that often NPCs will react differently to a woman and I want to get the whole experience. I wouldn't expect an NPC to react differently to you because you're black :0

I usually go through games like that as a white guy. Then I go again as a white chick. I don't really think too much about race.

I always play as a pale girl with short black hair because I think pale girls with short black hair are cute. Also, I try to imagine the the pale girl with short black hair is the same person in every game as play. She's immortal and I'm having trouble dealing with Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, since they seem to be mutually exclusive.

As has been mentioned multiple times, it depends on what game. I generally don't pay it too much mind.. Of course, given no choice you just tend to roll with it.

Although once I specifically chose small frame female Warrior in an old MMORPG I played because that particular model had an identified glitch that made that particular class/size go a tad faster lol so I chose that.. But thats not really race related, but that's the only time I can think of that I did such a thing for a strategic value.

Oh, well, on Aion I made a pale female character because they were just so beautiful. I couldn't help it.

Otherwise its just whatever :)

I'm of hispanic origin so I usually go for the dark brown skin color stuck between black and white. But yeah, I always make my characters look like me (albeit more muscular, handsome and capable version of me).

I usually play a white person. I don't hate african-americans, but I've had certain bad experiences with them in the past.

I naturally gravitate towards making my characer white, since thats what I am. But to be honest, if I do have to play as a character of a different coloured skin then I dont really mind. As long as my character is interesting enough I couldn't care less about what colour his skin is. Same goes for gender. I've played fallout 3 as both a male and a female, since I like to see how changing things can affect gameplay.

Online however, thats different. Again, skin colour, not an issue, but I can't bring myself to seriously play as a woman in a MMORPG or similar. Since that is a representation of myself in the gameworld, I dunno, it just feels like cross dressing.

I will however create a human female and dance on the bridge outside the auction house in ironforge naked. You know, for attention.
