I have definitely met more that I like than dislike. Most of them are pretty knowledgeable and polite. Though there are a few that don't have the first idea about the industry they are working in.

Our local employees are pretty great. Good people all around. Hell, one of them is even managed by a good friend of 25ish years who also runs a 1500+ people per year anime / videogame convention in my town.

It's good all around.

Most of my local gamestop employees are Gamer Girls. Good damn those brilliant bastards.

It really depends. I've regularly been to about five Gamestops in the country depending on where I lived (Orlando, FL; Baldwinsville, NY; and central North Carolina). I thought three of them were just fine. The employees were helpful, polite and knowledgeable. But two of them really emphasized the "hard sell" technique, so I made an effort never to shop there.

On one occasion, I was picking up a WoW 30-day gift card for a co-worker (Secret Santa ordeal), and the clerk kept trying to shove pre-orders down my throat despite the fact I said I wasn't interested in any. I even told him I worked at a rival game store, so I would get my own pre-orders from there, and the only reason I was shopping there was because my store didn't sell WoW subscription cards. After offering me a fifth pre-order, I tossed the card away for him to pick up and walked out.

Still, I'm sure that's the exception rather than the rule. The Gamestop near my house has perfectly good employees, so I'm satisfied.

I have never had a bad experience with them. Just the usual questions (things like if I want to buy the guide book for the game I am buying, or upgrade my gamestop card).

Yeah, I used to work in a DIY store, before that was an off license and after that was a petrol station. People are such dicks to those in retail, it's untrue what you have to put up with, it really is.

I think it should be a law that everyone has to work a few years in retail to make them appreciate the practicalities of working in customer relations. I think the poor girls on the till had it worst, customers would reduce them to tears. Funny how they'll do it to girls but the second the muscular and slightly annoyed young man asks what the problem is they suddenly find their manners.
I agree with this so much. I think everyone should be required to work in retail at some point in their lives. Even before I worked in retail it had always been my rule to be as polite as possible to people in the service industry because i could only guess at how much it sucked. Now that I have a job in reception/retail, I can verify: it really really sucks.

It's strange; once you're behind the counter or have your uniform on, it's almost like you're no longer human, because you're not allowed to make mistakes. People expect perfection from you even though you're just as human and capable of making mistakes as they are.

As for Gamestop, I haven't had any bad experiences with them. In fact the last time I was there I ended up with a free magazine. Yay free magazines!

The local Gamestop employee's are good enough folk. It's tough dealing with 7 year olds screaming at their dad's to make them buy video games. About the only bad thing about the store is that they play clips of the Big Bang Theory. Drives me insane.

Problem is in retail these days, there's a lot of pressure to upsell.

I work retail and the employees are often out-right lying to customers and often adding on the upsell items without their knowledge. They only cost .99 cents and the ticket prices are high enough not to be noticed. All this because corporate pushes managers to sell high-profit, low-cost items, often handing out prizes for it.

So, check your receipts anywhere there's pushy sales clerks.

I hate the Gamestop model - They rip people off.

But

The people there for the most part are cool. There was one guy though that called me an idiot for buying Flatout 2. I mean that too. He called me an idiot 2 times while ringing me up. He was trying to get me to buy Halo 3 instead (which I had rented - beat and no longer wanted it)

On a second trip that guy helped me again and said I was a fool for buying a copy of LOTRO for the wife. At that I told him to keep his game and his $10/hr job and left. Never been back there again.

Most of them seem really stupid...for retail clerks. I mean, I've never bought french fries at McDonalds and had the clerk hand me an empty carton. Something like that happened to meat gamestop (with a game case instead of a fries carton).
I've done that on more occasions than I care to admit. When the store is really busy, it's really easy to forget to put a game in a case. If you bring in your receipt while I'm still there, I'll gladly give you the game you rightfully deserve. My coworkers will also gladly oblige. We're all human, after all...

At the same store my wife's friend was actually laughed at when she asked if she could buy a wii fit. Sure, it was rare at the time but she's not a gamer and would have no way of knowing that.
Okay, I'll agree that that's a blatant violation of Wheaton's Law. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheaton%27s_Law#Wheaton.27s_Law] Send feedback with that online survey on your receipt. The District Managers sit down and read through every comment that gets submitted with the surveys. Those clowns will learn quick or get the boot in the arse.

It's the closest game store to my house (3 blocks away) but I never shop there anymore and I don't think anyone else does either. They Always have a banner for one sale or another out front leading me to believe they're overstocked.
There's always sales at GS, no matter what time of year it is. That's nothing new at all.
1. If it happens so often, another system really needs to be figured out.
2. Do you really think she would have a receipt? They didn?t sell her a wii fit or anything ever again. She gets her games at Target now.
3. Yea, I keep my eye on CAG but this store is having sales when no other gamestop does.
I hate to pick on retail clerks because... well, they?re retail clerks. But the gamestop employees I?ve come across (in NYC at least) are just plain obnoxious (for New Yorkers mind you, and as you can probably tell, we can be pretty obnoxious) and stupid (for base heads mind you).

That same thing happened to my parents when they wanted to buy a Wii. It wasn't at a GameStop though, I forget where they said it was. Best Buy or Walmart maybe.

I don't really like going to the GameStop at the mall nearest to me. Almost every time I go there the employees never say a word to me. That doesn't bother me much though. What does is I've also had some of them just stare at me, to the point I get the feeling I'm not welcome there. The one that's farther away is much better, the people there are always friendly.
Do you wear clothes that are good for shoplifting: baggy pants, big coat, that kind of thing?
But that?s the other thing. I would actually prefer silence and cold stares to the alternative of the clerk trying to sell me the strategy guide, a subscription to their magazine, and preorders for games that aren?t coming out for another year.

I give everyone a chance so I won't group them as one or the other. Once they act like a dumb f@ck then I group them in the dispise group. I've met a couple that have been good people.

I've never run into an overly pushy salesman at one, though I think I have that "been gaming for 20 years" edge to myself so they realize I'm only buying what I want. Actually, when myself and possibly a friend go in I generally see reprive on their faces as we're educated older gamers who aren't dumb ass kids going buck wild on the demo consoles and raving about halo and CoD.

Okay, I'll concede that point. However, GAs live and die by those surveys. Roll your eyes if you want, but there used to be some pompous dicks at the store I currently work at now. Guess who's still there and who isn't? Enough negative feedback will lead to performance reviews and possibly the end of your career.

If you do buy something from a store and you didn't like the service, do that survey. The regional manager recently forwarded the comments from this one lady I helped to the entire region. Thank god it was a blindingly positive review. They do listen, contrary to popular belief.

Never had a single problem with them.I've always found the staff in the 2 Gamestop stores near me to be friendly, helpful and not in the slightest bit pushy about special offers,pre-orders,buying pre-owned etc. That's more than can be said for the nearest GAME store
