I believe I said this in the official thread on the same topic, but I think the real issue here is- why have that girls parents failed to help her put entertainment into perspective?

It happened IRL, its not being gratuitous from what I've read of the game, its a darker, more serious attempt to portray the war, and it's a small part of the game.

There's a world of difference between shooting a trained attack dog intent on tearing your throat out, and tying a kitten to a firework.

One is self defence, one is abuse.

Fact is, if there was a bunch of cute kittens and puppies walking towards me wired with explosives, I'd shoot them too, I wouldn't like it, but I ain't dying for cute.

No, these people aren't over reacting! Not at all!
I mean, in this game, children will be killing animals. Animals! That's horrible. As if killing humans wasn't bad enough!
You know what? Games, along with other forms of media-literature, movies, paintings, drawing- all of them should only have happy, more child oriented content. Always. We need to protect our children and show them that the real world is a candy-filled, happy-go lucky place of fun, and that entertainment can only be found in the purest of medias.
I rest my case.

I usually don't like repeating myself, but the quote function makes it so easy.

So why are they complaining about a video game and pestering Activision, and not bothering hunters and people who enjoy sports fishing?
:/ They do bother sports hunters and fishers. It's a *huge* group of people who protest it, actually. You might've heard of them. PETA ring a bell?

And, to add, some of the greatest naturalists and conservationists are fishers and hunters.

Back on topic, it does bum me out to be running around killing animals in video games, and I try to avoid it at all due cost. But sometimes, you just gotta to survive, and in the end I'm way more interested in boosting my gamerscore than running from a rabid dog in order to save it.

These people are crazy. They're getting all pissed off about the need to kill trained attack dogs that are trying to kill you, but not about the need to kill the human enemies sending the dogs after you?

Yeah, or course I know about PETA, I meant specifically these student's who are complaining to Activision about COD:WAW.

If they're bothered about harm to animals, they should at least focus their energies in the right direction, instead of complaining about virtual harm towards virtual animals.

I felt kinda bad when I killed the dogs in S.T.A.L.K.E.R because they look quite a lot like my lurcher, but then I realised IT'S ONLY IN THE GAME. If I was in that situation, having to shoot a creature to preserve my own life, I'd do it, but I can't imagine being in that situation any time soon.

It's not like people who play these games actually go out at the weekend to shoot and maim pets.

I wonder what those whining students wants us to do then. Say "awwww that's a cute doggy, please stop it now" when the dog in question is ripping your throat out?

I think that animal cruelty it's self is a very serious issue, but I think that the stupid animal rights groups look in all the wrong places to fight for their cause. In Portland, a few years back I remember some PETA types surrounded a fur store to protest the fur coats they were selling. My question was that; did they know that in China, people skin dogs, cats and rats alive to make 'fake" fur.

I also remember when they protested to get Keiko the whale released back into the wild, GEEEEEEEE, that ended well. Did they even notice that the whale kinda liked hanging around humans, and thats why they had such a real problem realising him?

Also remember Knut: the adorable endangered Polar bear cub. Most animal rights groups wanted him to be killed bacause he was abandoned in the wild by his mom and he should have died. Seriously, these guys are becoming endangered, so it might be prudent to have a reserve of them in zoos so that one day if the do go extinct in the wild, they may be able
to be relesed into the wild (this sorta thing happened to the the Red Wolf, they went extinct in the wild, but the zoo breeding stocks kept the species alive enought to allow a new gereration to be relesed back into their native habitat)

So basically their are many problems facing animals in the world right now, and people are complaing that you kill dogs in a GAME. A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaude the groups and people who go and actually try to help animals in need (like helping animals who were forced into illegal fights), but most of these groups just seem to want to complaine about somthing domestically, without any real fear of reprisal.

Sorry for the long post, these sorta things get me kinda fired up.

Really? Just.....really?

...these people have nothing better to do with their time than sit around and ***** about killing ANIMALS in a VIDEO GAME, bearing in mind that this VIDEO GAME is based on a war in which they did use ANIMALS like these dogs as weapons?

...really?

their getting mad a bits of coding in a virtual world... sounds like a waste of time. real animals arent being harmed, and the game is not centered around killing dogs.

i love animals, i have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and i frequently foster animals from the local animal shelter. it saddens me that in my area, there are still people who abuse, or kill animals for no good reason. it doesnt cost anything to drop an animal off at the local shelter, but people seem to think its easier to just kill or mistreat their animals.

but these "animal rights activists" are more concerned about virtual dogs getting harmed which has no bearing on the real world, and in doing so, their ignoring real world animal abuse crimes. people like this disgust me

If it really happened in the events the game designers are trying to depict, that is how it should be and stay. I oppose any sanitization of history, especially when it's motivated by intellectually impoverished, hypocritical bullshit like caring about the dogs but not the humans.

This thread has been done almost five times today, give it a rest. We all know high-school kids nowadays are emotionally weak, and are protesting over dumb s**t.

Anyways, as I have said before, YES it is retarded. It's people like this who make me wish humanity would drop dead.
