I remember when there was an april fools joke that the protagonist of FF Versus XIII would be gay and my reaction was "I'm very surprised but so long as the game is good its fine by me". My opinion hasn't changed now. But homophobes don't worry it will be a long, long time before this happens, if ever.

I wouldn't mind having a gay character, but I wouldn't be able to get into the role if I was forced to play one. Granted, the same probably goes for gay people playing game with as a straight character, and maybe it makes me sound like a jerk but I couldn't put myself into a role as a gay character. Now, the option or a character who isn't the main playable character would be fine, and actually probably add a great dynamic.

It wouldn't bother me. I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality that I could play a gay character. Most gay characters in games are stereotyped way too much.

Question really comes down to how relevant it would be to plot and gameplay. If it was well developed character that actually has it reasons, and somehow the fact that he/she is gay makes an impact on the whole story i don't have trouble with it at all. Hell i swing both ways anyway.

But if the character is supposed to be gay just for sake of being gay, then whats the point? I mean, i could already in Mass Effect and Dragon Age play as lesbian if i wanted.

It's fine, as long as the game itself is fun I don't really care about anything else other than that.

Same here. It wouldn't make a difference so long as they weren't a camp stereotype. I've got gay friends who you would never guess were gay. I hate the stereotype as much as they do. But yeah, I actually think it would be interesting

Seems pointless. I mean, what percentage of people are gay? Less than 5, I would guess. You can't make a game for everyone, so you cover as many bases as possible.
Isn't it ten percent? That's what my Social Studies teacher said, a kid had been called a Fag, and he pointed at two of the primary name callers (there were 23 kids in the class) and said that there was just as much chance that one of them was gay, and that it wasn't and insult anyway. If you were friends with the person, their sexual orientation wouldn't matter.

Anyway, I really don't care. If they are portrayed as that negative gay stereotype that's very effiminate, then I wouldn't like it, as that's annoying.

As long as I can't tell by just talking to them about something else I don't care. That works the same way for heterosexual people, talking about banging chicks, being misogynistic (not necessarily hetero, but...) or calling things you don't like "gay" is annoying.

A large majority of male RPG characters are closet homosexuals anyway. So I wouldn't mind only as long as the actual game is good.

Kind of surprised I am in such a minority here. I don't mind so long as I ain't forced into it. In an adventure game is one thing, but in an RPG it will kill my immersion to much. Like it is trying to push some ideology off on me. Having Mass Effect's relationships for Shepard be only same sex options would have made the game worse. I have never cared if it offered this as an option but no game is so great that forcing you to be gay would actually make it better. At that point its acting more as a political platform than a game so I doubt how good it could actually be. So long as I don't have to be gay in the game I don't mind it. There are plenty of RPGs that offer this to me so one that forces me into a gay route, I probably won't opt to play.

As long as he/she is not portrayed as "the gay guy", I wouldn't mind.
A well-written character is a well-written character.

Yeah, who cares. It's like saying you don't want to listen to Judas Priest because Rob is gay. It makes no difference at all what orientation a character in a game is, the point is the damn gameplay, and that's what most modern gamers don't understand.

I'd be fine with playing as a gay character, I just hope that when a big game does come out with gay main characters it's handled well since nothing would be worse for the game's story then if the game just played up on gay stereotypes for characterization.

dude if you're doing a poll at least give a fair representation of the options

your most "gay-friendly" option:

Yes - the goodness of the game is more important

which suggests that a character being gay should naturally be assumed as a negative attribute? and that players who select this response are "willing to soldier through the game regardless of the fact they have to suffer a gay proagonist"

i cant select any of these, none of them reflect anything like an acceptable opinion for me - what if people would actually LIKE to see a gay character? i think it would be really interesting see a few more gay characters, so we can see more than just the over-camp stereotype in videogaming.

do the post a favour and at least edit your voting options

I dont really care unless hes running around jumping on guys all the time and telling everbody around him that he's a homosexual, but if he occasionally mentioned it when the time arose like some girl was hitting on him and he was just like sorry mam but im not into girls

I'm not gay but for some reason I like gay characters as long as they aren't flaming homosexuals. Still have no idea why though.
Edit: Like as in character appriciation, not sexually.

Yes, that edit was required. I'm very insecure.
