Dude, there's already been a gay main character in a major franchise game, and no one really seemed to mind. In fact, he's one of the more popular Final Fantasy protagonists. Well, unless... Are you trying to tell me that Cloud and Barret weren't secret lovers? Impossible. Inconceivable! The Gondola Scene, I say. The Gondola Scene!

I think that Bisexual would be a more interesting choice for an RPG. Opens up meaningful choices, and media tends assume that everyone is either straight or gay.
Bisexuality might well piss off both gays and straights. Also, bisexuality seems more taboo than homosexuality. Least in the US (I know this isn't an American site and I know there's an international showing, so YMMV by locality).

This is to denegrate nobody, honestly.

I don't care. If they include homosexuals in games, that's fine, I don't mind at all. I have a couple of gay friends neway, and they're awesome people... If it gets to the point where developers are putting in "token gays" that's when I draw the line

dude check out Kingdom Hearts II. I LOVE the game, and i'm not slamming it but yeah, there seem to be a plethra of gay relationships that span beyond Male to Male friendships. Roxas and axel, sora and riku, riku and mickey! yeah, my buddy Jose is tiny as hell and ways less than 90 pounds, I've gone two to three years without seeing him because he was in South America getting surgery, and at your reunion i DID NOT pick hip up and spin him around in the ocean while the sun was setting behind us...

AGAIN love Kingdom Hearts, Nothing wrong with being gay, just think that that very game is ALREADY HERE!!

I don't see why not? More choices are always great in an RPG and some people would really appreciate this option if it's to their taste. It doesn't have to become a big deal; just have a possibility of building romantic relationships with people of the same sex. The whole idea of an RPG is giving the players the ability to craft the character and gameplay to their own will, and if there are options for romantic storylines in the game then there is no reason why game developers shouldn't do that if they want to or if there is enough demand for it.

Shipping doesn't count! Bloody fan-fics.

Although this does somewhat prove the (probably already well proven) point that Japanese gamers and game companies are a lot more comfortable with homosexuality than the West. At least, heavily implied homosexuality. REALLY heavily implied.

The big question is: Will my character's sexual orientation stop him from being able to summon demons from the darkest pits of Hell? If the answer is no, then I'm game.

No,i wouldn't.
Now,if there would be a random character in the game who would be then i wouldn't actually care.

Lol,i don't have anything else to add,after all,it's a simple question. xD

I would find it funny. But only because of the controversy it would kick up.
I remember people yelling out "OH EM GEE You can be gay in Fable? Haaaaate!"

But I don't really care, gay people are still people, I have gay friends, I have gay enemies.

fallout 3 - bittercup will ask a female character if shes in a relationship as well
jade empire
mass effect

it not only can be done well and without any hassle it has been done and quite successfully. small changes in dialogue and thats all that needs to be done
There's no gay people in Mass Effect. Liara's not technically a woman. She's genderless so if you play as Jane Shephard it's not gay. It would be gay if Jane could get Ash and John could get Kaiden
If anything, the Liara option is bestiality. (Xenophilia, I know, but it's not that different)

I'm not bothered either way.

On a side note I was completely sucked in by the hinted relationship between Rush and David in The Last Remnant. I don't think it mattered much that they were both guys-I'd have been just as affected by the ending if one (or both) of them had been female.

No, I dislike playing games where the sexuality of the main character is relevant.

I remember Enchanted Arms had the most overly gay secondary character ever.

I hated it.

For the pure reason that rather than "A normal guy, who likes guys" we'd get "A guy who wears make-up, pink clothing, likes anything girly and talks like he's been kicked in the balls" in every game that attempted to try to make a gay character, I'd have to say "No."

It's fine if it's optional, or a different character, but I don't want it rammed down my throat (pun intended).

I wouldn't give a crap, just as long as something like this happens:
"Yukiko isn't thinking straight!"
"I'd be suprised if she did."
"....."
"What? It's not like anyone didn't know."
