Poll: Gender Identity

On another forum I was a part of, we had this same poll and I was surprised by the results. We had about ~2500 members at the time and only 221 voted, and of those votes, we had 14 transgendered people (13 woman and 1 man interestingly). A good 6% of the voting population, while 86% identified as cisgendered and the rest were "other" which covers quite a few possible identities (agender, intersex, third gender, etc). I'm a cis male myself and I'm comfortable with that, though I don't really have an attachment to that identity and I wouldn't mind swapping in the future when the procedure is cheaper and it doesn't come with a ton of prejudices.

So I'm curious, what about the Escapist? I checked before I posted this to see if you could see votes, and it looks like you can't, so you can be anonymous about this if you want.

I am the most ordinary and boring option on that list.

Shocking, I know.

Born male, very happy staying male here. Funnily enough I made this thread last year, it got locked and deleted later due to a necro but I screenshot the results before it got the hammered:

Slightly different to this poll, it'll be interesting to see how the two compare.

Born into a male body and comfortable inhabiting it as a male. I never had to find my gender identity but I'm supporting a very close friend IRL who is struggling with this very subject right now.

It depends on your point of view. I consider myself a cis male but if we go back 22 years when I was but a mere embryo I was a female until I was gender re-assigned in the womb to become a male which is why I still have nipples. So yes I could be a transfemale

joking aside. Im not poking fun at trans people but instead pointing out that we initially start as female (more gender neutral to be exact but its closer to female) when we are embryos. Because of this you can see why transgender is acceptable

In the animal kingdom a male clown fish will become female if a female dies. Crocodiles gender is decided depending on the temperature of the eggs 1[sup]o[/sup]C is enough to change its gender

I know its all a bit of topic but it proves how gender doesnt really matter

Cis female here, and while I'm very interested in trans* issues I've never questioned my own gender identity. That said, I am in no way "feminine" and sometimes describe myself as having a stereotypically "male" personality. I think gender roles are complete bullshit though, so I'd rather personality traits etc weren't gendered. [small](Just to clarify: not saying trans* issues are bullshit - body dysphoria is most definitely a thing.)[/small]

Your external biological gender of birth and the gender you identify as match up. So most people.

Then consider me a member of the CIS.

Its weird how people get the idea that such roles automatically make you homosexual. For example people automatically assume that a male nurse or an airline steward is automatically a homosexual. Or that women in the military or engineering are automatically 'butch' lesbians

Having said that I think women have more of a natural affinity for a caring role and men have a natural affinity for mechanical/engineering roles. It maybe because people are more comfortable with a female caring for them. Granted this isnt a hard and fast rule and it may be more to do with preconditioning (im no expert) but its certainly a trend

Why did this become a term? What's wrong with saying straight? Isn't that essentially what it means?
...huh? This is gender, not sexuality.

I didnt know what it meant but I guessed because of this

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cis%E2%80%93trans_isomerism

cis is latin for "on the same side" trans is latin for "opposite".

gender and sexuality are different things...a guy who transitioned into a women [footnote/]which doesn't get into the whole "passing"/"pre op/post op" thing but whatever[/footnote] and wanted to have sex/relationships with women would be gay/a lesbian

OT: Cis Female....though I've always had issues with femininity,

It's Latin.

By comparison, the province of Cisalpine Gaul was Gaul on the same side of the Alps as Rome, and Transalpine Gaul was Gaul on the other side of the Alps as Rome.

It's the same thing, except with people instead of provinces, and gender instead of mountain ranges. Sort of.

It is both their sex and gender that changes (in most cases). I assume you mean gender in terms of behavior, as animals have very few ways of personally expressing their gender to the world.

I suppose you raise a good point with the whole sex thing. I was just pointing out that the line between genders/sexes biologically is pretty fine. Kind of makes you understand a bit more about why people "decide" (I use that word loosely) that they are another gender
