God of War is the first thing to come to mind for me, as it should be. It was here first!

Kidding aside, most people I know don't even abbrieviate Gears of War as GoW. They call it Gears, which is a lot easier and less prone to confusion in my opinion.

I never even realised both games could be abbreviated to GoW. I have always thought of it as God of War and never in any context have I seen it as Gears of War. And I haven't gone out of my way to look for any material on any of those games either.

Neither.I don't think I've ever referred to God of War as GoW and I always refer to Gears of War as "Gears"

Gears of war 3 is the first thing that comes to mind, probably because I have never played a God of war game.

GoW = God of War whenever I look at the acronym. The Gears games never really interested me, but GoW 1 and 2 were fantastic PS2-era games.

To me, it means neither.

I usually just see 'Gears' for Gears of War, while God of War is only 7 characters (9 with spaces) and can simply be stated without any need to shorten it. I haven't actually seen the GoW acronym used, because almost everyone is aware that two hit game series share those initials and they'd rather avoid confusion.

It's Gears to me. Then again I play the 360 most of the time. Someone on the PS3 would much more likely think of God of War first.

God of War = GoW.

Gears of War = Gears. Or Queers because I'm funny like that.

There is almost no confusion with everyone I know.

until i started forum lurking, i always saw/talked about/heard GoW as gears of war, but once i got to the escapist i saw most people referred to it as "gears", so i've switched it to that.

besides on here, i've never seen someone mention GoW as god of war.

God of War is the first thing that comes to mind for me. I've never played either game, FWIW.

Yeah, I usually see Gears of War abbreviated to just Gears too, so I've never really thought about the confusion with the acronym.

God of War, simply because it's been GoW for years before Gears of War (which most people just shorten to 'Gears' not 'GoW').

GoW = God of War.

Made for some awkward moments with, say, Dave Mustaine or some other random XBox360 owner, and it certainly did cause some discussion threads to go south pretty fast.

So,

GoW = God of War,
but
GoW = Gears of War,

because.
