Original Halo, or Half Life. I know those are the boring answers, and yes, I am a Halo fanboy, but still. Those are my honest choices. Halo because when it first came out it was revolutionary, for want of a better word, and afterwards spawned one of the largest and best game universes I've ever seen. Half Life because it is just great, for so many reasons. As a whole, Half Life just sums up to become one pleasing whole.

Just an aside, TC, but were you going for "Callipygian" with your username? I'd say you completely butchered the spelling of that word and must now live with the horrible, horrible shame of it all.
No I wasn't trying to spell Callipygian, because I don't have shapely buttocks (see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/callipygian), it was my choice to spell it this way, because it looks better and nobody knows what it means and now you must live with the horrible, horrible shame of being a Pretentious Dickhead XD

Damn is time over today?
No but as you may tell I am trying to find support for my very bias arguement, and so the games I listed are in my mind the greatest of all time!

For me, the best classic will always be Half-Life for its great singeplayer campaign, sturdy multiplayer and many fun mods like CS, TFC, DoD, Natural Selection, ...
I'd have to agree. I think Half-Life was the best game ever created full-stop. Not only was a great single-player experience, but the mod scene made the game into even more of a huge success. Even Half-Life 2 couldn't match Half-Life 1's mod scene, and I must've spent 2 years exclusively playing Natural Selection.

Ah... NS... why can't any modders out there match your brilliance? NS2 should be sweet.

Wolfenstein.

Why? Well, has anyone come up with a raise on the concept of 'move through 3-D space killing things' yet? Didn't think so.

you should have said "classic" FPS, because the fact that Bioshock and Half-Life 2 aren't on that list is a crime.

Either starseige, or T2 those games have everything you could want from a fps, but T:V killed the series.

Operation Flashpoint, no doubt.
Call of Duty 2 is possibly the most replayable game I've ever played, so that's high up on the list. Let's not forget FarCry.
EDIT:Bioshock, too. (Too many good games!)

Either Star Wars:Republic Commando for actually getting squad AI right for once, or Call of Duty 4 for being awesome in many different ways.

My money goes to Goldeneye.
I'd take Perfect Dark over Goldeneye. It has all the weapons of Goldeneye, a whole bunch more weapons, really well done AI bots to play against when your bored or need more people in a multiplayer match and it has FAR more mechanics that all blend seemlessly.

Perfect Dark for the N64 is still the best FPS I've ever played and it is why when I played Halo I felt cheated and didn't really get the 'awesome' that everyone else did :p.

Or to put it more succinctly what this guy said:

Original Metroid Prime.

While it was a little annoying at times, there is no better way to spend a day of gaming: listening to japanese techno whilst shooting a giant, sword-wielding, mutant flower.

Never got to play perfect dark so I wouldn't know anything about it, I'm probably biased though because Goldeneye was the game that got me into gaming, so it holds a special place with me.
