If not, lob it where I can and get behind something to stop the shrapnel.

Imagine if one of your friends got that idea as well... That would make a mess ; P

Something similar happened to me once, I was at the dublin riots and the cops fired tear gas grenades, and I was quite proud of myself, I managed to throw it back before it went off. The morons weren't wearing gas masks either.

Run or find some sort of cover. Picking it up sounds like a great way to be caught holding an explosive device when it goes off - somehow I get the impression that would not exactly lower my chance of serious injury or death.

Get the hell out of there. While it's not exactly a preferred method of using a grenade, I have no idea if the grenade was cooked off or not. Much safer to find some nice hard cover to hide behind rather than risk having it go off in my hand.

If I were on fairly flat ground, I would probably give it a good kick away and run

Quickly grab it and fling it as far away as possible. Or give it a good kick and start running.

If I was outside, I'd probably duck behind the fattest person near me.
If I was at home, I'd just run into another room.
If it was just me walking around normally, with nobody around, I'd run like fuck in the direction it came from, spewing curses all the way.

Unless it still had it's full fuse left, you wouldn't be able to run far enough to avoid the Shrapnel

Right now I would say that I would try and throw it back out of the room or something but chances are if this were real life I would freak out and try to run.
