Grenade has a 15 meter kill radius, and a 3-5 second fuse, so I'd run and take any cover possible. If no cover is avaliable I'd run then hit the deck and cover my head...

If I wasn't overcome by adrenaline, I would hastily grab it and throw it away. It's the smartest thing to do, apart from the fact that a live grenade would be in my hand.

Your standard-issue fragmentation grenade of today weighs about 500g of which roughly 150g are explosives. The basic fuse runs for 3 seconds (some countries have variable fuses, but they are rare and even then it is usually no more than 2-6 seconds) and the estimated kill zone is 40m (that is to say, anyone not in cover within 40 meters can be expected to be incapacitated beyond battlefield perforamnce) with fragments being able to travel upwards of 400 meters. This is the completely worthless information I remember from grenade handling during my conscription and with it in mind, I'd probably end up saying "OH SHI-" (or thinking it due to paralyzation from fear) before dying.

Probably give it a good kick and then lie down flat facing away. Then pass out in terror or somesuch.

seeing how I spend most of my time on the roofs of buildings as part of my job, I'd just toss it over my shoulder and hope nobody's on the street below me

I'm sorry but run away from it is winning?
You could throw it further away than you could ever run in the time it would take to explode.

It the thrower isn't retarded, he'll cook the grenade beforehand. Thus, the only logical solution is run for cover, preferably a concrete wall.

Cant you stop the "countdown" by picking it up and holding the trigger thingy?
On most modern "pineapple" grenades, no. There are usually three safeties on a grenade, the thumb safety which you push first. Then you remove the pin and throw the greande at which point the "handle" releases, is flung of the grenade and the fuse starts counting on the grenade in question.

Well if I didn't know how long it had been live before getting to me I'd probably try to run. If I saw that it hadn't been long I'd kick it and then run.

I'd kick it, then run away in the opposite direction. If that didn't work then I'd be too dead to change my chosen option...

Kick it, and/or then take the nearest cover. The kill radius on a standard US hand grenade is 5m, with the causality radius being 10-15m. If you can't punt it 10 yards on open ground and take cover, you suck.

Just randomly running away from the grenade is a good way to get shot, and any well made position has grenade sumps (holes in the bottom to take the blast and shrapnel, with the floor angled toward them) and if your getting grenades thrown at you, the people who threw them WANT you to run out of your position.

If you're in in an urban area, there's probably somewhere you can kick it and/or hide, even if it's just a little niche, where it won't kill you (you might get hit with some flying metal, murphy's law).

It's actually a terrible idea to cook grenades.

There's the Gunny to tell you why at around 3:56. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvNWFTV2OlM]

I'd try to lob it back in the opposite direction, and THEN run away. Kicking is just too unreliable, in my experience.

Army training 101: you can't outrun it, throwing it back might be fun in games, but you'll rarely get the time in real life.

Kick and duck is the only correct option.
