Women and children are always NPC's in games... if its gritty realism then why are there no children with AK-47 screaming how much they hate you? why is it soo taboo to incorperate the real truth of the world into video games?

*edit* If you have seen the movie "Black Hawk Down" or "Tears of the Sun" the main characters find them selves shooting down a women picking up a gun in order to shoot at them or knifing a teen destroying a village. Should games incorperate more women and children as an opposing force, or does it always have to be "Big strong men" who do the fighting? Can people make a game where you have to decide do you let the women and children shoot at you because they hate you and your faction or do you lower your morals and protect yourself and your team?

An explanation would be nice. To what purpose would incorporating more women and children serve?

Edit: Sorry, the OP was blank when I wrote this.

It could be a cool morality scenario. I dunno if anyone's seen it, but it's kinda like that 24 straight-to-TV movie they did.

Either way, killings kids almost got Bioshock fried but it was saved because it didn't actually show it. If it gets worse than that, we might see some more Jack Thompson characters come around.

I believe Prey had a sequence wherein a possessed child killed a little girl, and she came back to life possessed, too. They both proceeded to attempt to end your life.

I don't care. The news, though, would have field day. "Breaking News: War in Iraq allows your children to slaughter 8 year olds! More at 11."

It seems weird to me because most people want games to be more realistic, and to break down the walls between men and women in them, but if you made it so that you could kill women and children like you can men there would be a backlash. Although, more and more games are making women enemies to kill in increasing brutal ways (such as blowing off their heads in Fallout 3). Children, though, will probably not happen anytime soon and I'm OK with that. I wouldn't mind, but it still leave a bad taste in my mouth the first time I did it.

Edit: This:

TL;DR, don't force it in where it doesn't belong, that goes for anything in any game.

Well, you "kill" Alma at the end of the original F.E.A.R. Of course, she's already a ghost before that. And that clip of pistol rounds doesn't stop her from still being "alive" at the end. And its the teenage Alma.

I remeber killing kids and in Fallout 2 and being called a cad by the game. I wish they had brought that over into the third one. Maybe they'll do it for the fourth.

"videogames" are not the real life, get over it.

If developers decide to do it, then what´s next? Raping?

This isn't where you would just walk into a town and mow down the local orphanage. In Turok for the 360 Turok had to make the desicion to kill the little girl he hit with his bow. More along those lines than just 4 foot tall targets. I'm not encouraging the whole sale slaughter of kids, just questioning their role in games.

Because being able to kill a child in a game is inviting all the concerned mothers of the world who blame everything except their own parenting to start a rally and burn you in effigy.

Plus then the ESRB would indeed be dissolved and replaced by a senate-appointed committee for allowing such a game to be given a rating.

Can't you just see it now?

"Officer, I only killed all those children because I saw it in that game. I would never have thought of it otherwise."

Definitely this, Killing full grown women is okay because of the whole equality thing. In fact, you can kill women in some seriously brutal ways (Condemned 2), but just the mention of killing kids in Bioshock almost got the game canned. That probably has something to do with killing kids being a rather tasteless act. I'm all for realism, but withing realistic boundries. Lets not give ourselves a worse reputation with the media than we already have.

Well like Meatloaf said, Prey had a scene where a little posessed girl brutally murders her brother by throwing him at a large pike which went right through his chest. But you never actually get to "kill" any children.(Because they're already dead anyways.)

Wow, 7 of the same post in a row. Someone wanted to get their point across.

On topic, I don't think that games need to be that realistic in the first place. If you want a game where you kill kids that's fine with me. If the game is really good, I might play it. But I'm not looking for more realistic games. The more realistic you get the more unoriginal you get as well.

Is this specificaly towards FPSs? If not then, free-roam crime games( GTA, Saints Row) let you kill more women than you can handle.

But as of children, I don't think people would have too much fun pulling off headshots on 6th graders.

You can already murder women of all shapes, sizes, and race in any sandbox game out on the market, so I'll just take up the whole children thing. No, with a capital N. I don't know what level of degradation my life will have to be in before I start shooting kids to entertain myself, but I'm sure it'll be no time soon.

Plus, why give all those "video games are destroying our youth" people more ammunition? They have enough already.

If Jack Thompson hadn't been disbarred, I probably would've mentioned him somewhere in this post.

As long as the reason that kid wanted to kill you was because you took away his Halo 3...
