Real Guitar is 10x more rewarding. And plus you literally get addicted to picking up the guitar after you learn to play a catchy song you like.

I enjoy playing hings like Guitar Hero and whatnot. But I much prefer actually playing the instruments, even though I'm crap at playing real instruments. Apart from the drums though. I really want to learn how to play the drums... :D

So, my 2 cents is, go with real guitar. Sure it's harder and more challenging, but also more rewarding and fun. Plus, if you're lucky and good enough, you can do something successful with your life as a guitar player. You can't do that with RB or GH.

Ever heard of GuitarHeroPhenom on youtube? He can play drums and such, but damn can he make a living out of a game.

I even have this on my profile, I play real guitar, piano, and bass. Guitar Hero, Rock Band or whatever are boring as fuck (to me). They get boring after a while and people think they're actually accomplishing something worth anything when they get 5 stars, omg!!!11!.

Play a real instrument, then talk about actually achieving something...

Do I have to choose? I play electric guitar and love it but I also enjoy the occasional rock band session with friends. I guess my answer would be real guitar, but I don't consider the to pastimes to be mutually exclusive.

I wasn't suggesting the two were mutually exclusive, I myself consider both to have their merits. I was asking which people preferred.

Their are few better feelings then passing that awesome solo that you never could before....in real life that is. Guitar video games can't compare to real guitar playing in the slightest.

I do neither of those things now, but if I were to start playing music, I would prefer to do it for real.

Guitar Hero, simply because I have no interest in playing a real instrument (tried in 4th grade and hated it) and I know I'd fail at it. xD

Guitar Hero and that stuff is fun but nothing beats something like this. [http://www.geeks.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Strat.jpg]
Now that's just cruel. I was going to get that exact guitar before I realized I only had enough money for a student-level instrument.

OT: Yeah, play real guitar. I'm learning how to right now. I also play drums, so I know how much fun an instrument can be when it's clicked for you. So much better than having some virtual crowd cheer. Even though I do wish that the world would tell me that I rock every time I beat a song.

You've got to be committed. Try picking up an instrument you like, and stay at it for like a month or so. Look back at when you first started, and if you haven't gotten any better, than you should drop it. Playing music isn't for everyone, but once you've gotten an understanding of your instrument, you can't beat it.

I play guitar hero, and other rhythm simulation games because playing real instruments is boring.

I've played Violin for 6 years, and Guitar for 2. There is nothing more boring than practicing to improve. You can take the rout where you only play in class/practice, but after a while you begin to stagnate in comparison to your peers, and eventually reach a plateau.

Rhythm simulation games are much easier than actually learning to dance, learning to play the keyboard and scratch, or the drums and guitar, whilst still being difficult in comparison to other games, and boast a very lively competitive scene.

Eh. I can't play a real guitar so I'd have to go with GH ones. If I could play a real guitar though, I'd go with it instead.

I have played both and while the real thing is harder and I sucked, it was much more rewarding to pluck the strings of a guitar than the plastic buttons of Guitar Hero. I felt like I was actually making and contributing to music. But that's me.

I say try a real guitar first. It will be tough at first but it will rewarding in the end. If you don't like it go ahead with Guitar Hero. If you don't like both... well, I can't help you :p

I like bass a lot but my fingers aren't strong enough yet... Still, it makes me feel way cooler being able to play a song myself. Also, tiny girl + big bass = hilarious
