Whichever one will help me kill faster and/or better in the given situation. They both have their golden moments. Sniping has headshots, melee has backstab.

I tend to use guns an awful lot more, only really favouring melee once, and only once, the ammo stash has run dry. For me, it's just easier to pump a round of bullets into a zombie than it is running the risk of letting it get too close. That said, it is fun to smash the living daylights out of head crabs in Half Life XD!

Whatever works the best. Fair fights can piss off as far as I'm concerned. If I can shoot a guy looking for a hand to hand fight, I will shoot him before he can get near me.

Both, sort of. My favorite weapon is a cattlegun [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1yFS3bBCJY&feature=related]. It's kind of like a melee-gun. The best part is that it doesn't really look like a weapon at all.

I prefer guns in general, because usually gun combat requires a little more thought than just plain strength and reflexes. But stealth melee can be a lot of fun too.

I really hate it when people say that guns are "dishonorable", or that stealth is for the cowardly. There is no such thing as honor in fighting, one of you is going to die and that's that. If you're smart you use what you have to you're advantage. That's why I love games like MGS and s.t.a.l.k.e.r., because they put the player at a disadvantage, so make you think about what you're doing and how you're going to do it.

Both as while .32 hunting rifle will decaptitate a mutie, power fist works equally well up close.

TBH I prefer the Auto axe now for melee in Fallout 3, While the power fist can smash a head off a mutie, the auto axe sends all body parts flying.

I enjoy melee more i think. In COD:WAW, RO, and any game that has a bayonet, that bayonet gets used a lot.

It's like Valiance said it "Depends on the game."

If it's Fallout 3, I prefer guns especially for the occasional vat head-shot finish.

When I'm playing most fps games, I tend to stick to guns, otherwise you usually end up dying a lot more.
However, sometimes using melee on inept/slow enemies can help you conserve ammo.

When playing most rpg games, I usually don't use a lot of either guns or melee...I use magic.

Melee. The close quarter combat in Condemned 2 was the most fun I'd had with my pants on in a while. Nothing says "f#ck you" like beating someone to death with a toilet seat.

Just put a bayonet on your gun, and you have melee and gun combat in one comfy little pack.

I tend to be a sneaky bastard when games allow me, so naturally i'm gonna say melee. but gunplay has it's uses when meleeing.
I see a camp of Marauders ahead of me. I realize this is the gang the *inserttotallyuselesslocallawenforcementagencyhere* has ordered me to execute. I sneak into the camp, Silently executing them with my knife. as I work my way from building to building, i'm noticed by one of the sentries, and soon an alarm is ringing throughout the camp. I whip out my Uzi and start mowin' people down.

and then there's an example like this. I'm wandering the Wastelands when a raider appears on the horizon. I quickly relieve him of his gun by shooting it with my blackhawk. we then engage in hand-to-gauntlet.

in short, Melee when possible, guns when melee fails or helps melee.

Does shooting people at point blank range count as melee? No? thought so.

Melee weapons. However, if it's available, then I will always take a Sniper Rifle.

I typically use a gun, but if I'm really mad at a certain enemy than I like to go for a melee attack to help vent my frustrations. It really depends on the situation I guess.
