Guns for me. Msgrs. Colt, Winchester et. al did not put so much time and care into their developments so that I could regress to caveman tactics in warfare.

My preference is for fully automatic weapons. MORE DAKKA!

Depends...

first rule of any combat, be it digital, or real..something any warrior,be it couch warrior, or a soehi should know... knowing what to use for what situation and when, and being able to improvise.

Harder done in game obviously as it's easy to blow the ability of a character, or a weapon out of realistic proportions ( which I actually hate "god guns" or blades that make a lightsaber seem like a butter knife)

but I know a few games where it actually is better to get inside the physical range of a specific enemy type and do melee, as they are geared as long range attackers.

down side being that damage is generic in almost games hp loss is hp loss no mater if it's a nuclear tipped, laser guided RPG , or a satellite strike, Katana hit, or a cardboard box thrown....you cant really use the real life abilities that you could with each one...

cardboard boxes are actually really useful distractions in real world live or die situations...

I have played 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand for probably 7 hours total over the last few days. The melee kills are so f(oh no)ing brutal and awesome in that game that I simply have to vote melee.

Please don't flame me for my taste in games.

It really depends on the situation. For instance, in Team Fortress, I love the satisfaction of pulling off a perfect headshot on an unsuspecting opponent. At the same time, I also enjoy sneaking up behind people and flailing them with a baseball bat, or stabbing them. I could go either way, but in moments of extreme spite (ie. being owned all game by one specific player), I typically enjoy laying down bombs and waiting for them to walk through a doorway that I've rigged to explode.

I said guns, but that is not completely accurate. My preferred method of combat is to run at an enemy while holding down the trigger and yelling bloody murder. If my timing is right, I empty my clip right as I reach them, and if they are still standing, I proceed to bash them with whatever happens to be handy.

Whatever is either less popular or discouraged by the gameplay itself - I.E. using melee only in Quake.

I like being That One Guy Who Won't Use The Good Guns What Is Wrong With Him, The Idiot.

As much as I enjoy blowing people's heads off from long range, I can't deny the satisfaction that comes from busting somebody's head with a crowbar. Or backstabbing somebody when they're not looking. (spies FTW)

O common, where is the "magic" option.

Eh melee is cool but worthless realistically.

it depends on the context if u want to make a huge scene you can just fire a gun at everyone. Or if u want to test your skills you can go into a fight with a knife and take out enemies one by one.( try only using melee weapons in fallout 3. then say it isn't more of a challenge to use a knife)
