I've never done so, but I know a friend that does it all the time, what's more, he takes it to extremes by trying to have sex with every dude he can (he even thought you can have sex with other (real) people in Fable 2 online), so either he's awfully kinky or he needs to reassess his standards of man

I had a chick in Guild Wars.
I found people to be very helpful and accomidating as I wondered around on my lonesome.
Hearing a lot of horror stories about the females in PlayStation Home. I now understand why.

Sarcasm, from me? Never! :p

My point is that giving a blanket "it's stupid" is rather a non-answer. It adds nothing to the discussion, apart from flinging a half-hearted insult at those who disagree.

I can agree that cross-playing for prurient reasons is rather silly, and ultimately pretty pointless. But there are plenty of reasons, not least of which is that it's a very interesting experiment from both a psychological and sociological standpoint.

Of course, if you don't want to articulate your objections, that's up to you. ;-)

Why do some guys choose to play as girl characters? I always choose my same gender yet everyone assumes I'm a guy playing a girl which makes me think that is more common that girls actually playing a MMORPG. What are your thoughts on this and are there any girls who play male characters?
I empathise with you on this. I constantly get asked if I'm a guy or a girl (sometimes even told that I'm actually a guy... apparently, my gender is something I can't determine myself...), so it would be the natural assumption that some males roleplay as female. However, I always play as a female character. Afterall, I don't want to be accused of being a girly-man! :p

It is gay, which is why I can't understand supposedly straight male gamers find themselves staring at their male character's arse, rather than what's happening in the game.

In most 3rd person games, you're character's rear end isn't the focal point of the screen, more often than not it's near the bottom of the screen & offset to one side. The focal point of the screen is usually a cross-hair, or an even a blank area which represent where your character is looking.

I mean if you're playing a game and you keep finding you're attention drawn to you're male character's arse, rather the cross-hair, the HUD, your surroundings, the action on screen or the path your character is taking, then I don't think playing as a woman will help you with your issues, if anything it will only confuse matters.

To me, the entire argument "I'm so straight I have to pretend I'm a woman to stop myself staring at a guy's butt all day" screams gender identity issues and of being so trapped in the closet that R. Kelly is writing songs about you.

When you were playing Fallout 3, during the childhood phase, didn't you purposely not use the 3rd person view out of fear of being busted by Chris Hansen?

EDIT: Happy Toki Toki, this isn't specifically directed at you, even though I quoted you at the beginning, it's for everyone with this strange point of view.
no harm done, im just simply pointing out that i get bored and im a very character orientated person thats why i look around and spend some time gawking and visuals and characters, i spend ages picking out the coolest looking armour cos im into design and all that, and no im not gay, im married to a woman, an asian woman if you must know. but i wont push my manliness further as i dont want to cause conflict with the "dope" crowd...

either way, diff points of view, you profer playing a guy and i profer my ADD kicking in and looking at eye candy. all the same to me.

The first time through a game I almost always play as a guy, mainly because I am one. But after I beat the game or get tired of my current character I will usually make a female character just to change things up a little. See how the gear looks different, see if there is any dialog that differs or just so I can stare at a tightly packed little animated butt run around on screen.

Yeah, like you say it's probably just a different point of view. I personally don't view woman as "Eye Candy" (I actually think using that term to refer to woman is disrespectful/distasteful), so I don't have that incentive to play as an female character in a game.

I think I'm an enlightened chauvinist, i.e. I don't view women as objects so I wouldn't choose a female character to ogle, instead always picking a male character because I think men are stronger and better suited to violence and most action game scenarios than women.

While online, I have a couple times, but most people still can figure out that I am a guy. On the other hand, I have a friend who no matter what gender he plays as people think he is a girl. I have a third friend, who plays as a girl and I have gotten flamed while in game for using a male pronoun when referring to him.

When I do pick to play as a girl, I usually do it for irony or because of a gender specific class. I thought it was funny to be a girl wearing a pink dress and bonnet while using the fatman in Fallout 3.

Although I understand how a horny teenager would like to have a shaking booty on screen, I personally feel kind of gay when playing a female char

If your a dude play as a dude if your a chick play as a chick
Can you give me a good reason why it has to be that way?

ps - Also, it's "You're" not "your". You made the same mistake twice, so I figured I'd do you a favor and point out the difference. Hate to be a grammar nazi, but you'll get over it and you may even learn something.

Sometimes I find the male character choices in some games look like fags or idiots, so then I consider making a female character. In a game like WOW when you can make up to 10 characters, I like to have abit of variety, make my team more interesting.
Look like fags as compared to roleplaying as a woman? Jesus, if you are going to be homophobic, at least do it right.
