As much as I think wow stagnates once you hit 85 and start doing heroics I dont think anything will ever "kill" it. Remember Warhammer? me either. Guild Wars and every MMO's problem is they are so deadset on killing wow and being a wow-type game only better that they ignore things like gameplay and story. So many games make that mistake that they dont try and do anything new and truly creative with their game, all they think about is "Herp Derp, we're not in Azeroth anymore!" I dont want a wow killer, I want something new that isnt wow 2.0.

Wow > GW2. Why do I say this? I don't know if the game itself is better, however I have watched at least 5-7 "WoW Killers!" fade off into nothing. I remember everyone declaring Warhammer online, EVE, LotRO, Champions Online, etc etc etc would be the end of WoW. World of Warcraft however has 11-12 million subscribers and a lot of hardcore fans. It will not die that easily.

I do not understand why people feel the need to hype up games in order to try and discredit World of Warcraft. In reality all you are doing is going to piss off a lot of people by saying a game will 'kill' World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft is going to be around as long as Blizzard want it to, and until Titan World of Warcraft will be the #1 MMO. Yes you may not like Activision, you may not like Blizzard, you may not like World of Warcraft, but if that is the case, please enjoy your World of Warcraft clone in peace, and stop annoying the rest of us who are perfectly happy with World of Warcraft.

This is a rant on people in general who hype up new MMOs, I recently just came from a Thread on another website where someone was talking about how Rift is going to kill World of Warcraft so I'm still kinda annoyed about that.
Lots of people in this thread don't seem to know what GW2 is about. It's as far from a WoW clone as you can get. And the only people who are comparing it to WoW are people in threads like these, definitely not the developers. It's meant to live alongside WoW as a completely different experience, not compete with it.

So I will link you to this video so you can know what the game is about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E if the embed didn't work.

You all seem to be thinking of Rift, methinks.

WoW cannot lose because it has already won.
And GW2 will almost certainly also be successful.

It won't "win" against WoW but it will absolutely be a better game. And it's fucking free to play once you buy the game, no way is WoW ever going to top it in my mind.

but WoW (at least in my eyes) is kinda dull. It's' travel to point X kill this many (insert name of enemies here), and you either go raiding for gear to do MORE raiding or grinding(grind is the bane of gaming!).
I know you said that is what you believe, but you are generalizing too much. I've played since August, and I have barely had any problems with how the quests work. Why? Because that is how the game works. The quests tell you the story of the game, if you're not one of those guys who just clicks accept without reading. There are so many stories in the game for you to become a part of.

The grind you call the bane of gaming is not as bad as you think. Have some friend who play? Raiding and running instances will become one of the funnest things you can do. I do dungeons with my friends, and we have a great time, cracking jokes and doing stuff we might do if we were together (many of us live in different states and towns... some even different countries). Don't have any friends who play? Join a guild, make some, then do as I mentioned before.

Yes, solo play in WoW can feel very boring. But playing with the thousands of people on your chosen server will make it all the better.

Oh, and by the way, I'm not saying you were doing it, but it felt like you were trying to advertise GW2.

WoW wont be killed. At least not like people think it will. It'll be slow and in all likelihood 5 years from now WoW will still be puttering around with a respectable subscription base.

Still, if Guild Wars 2 can deliver on what they've been talking about we're probably looking at a strong contender for the MMO crown.

Typical WoW junkie response. The stories have become flat and ironically the best quests in the game have actually either been removed or re-built so that that you can continue on your maddening blitz through content to hit 85. Hands down my most favorite quest in the game has to be the Battle of Northshire but they've cut it down.

Now most quest chains are fairly shallow and make everything seem a bit dry when it's all really just go here, kill this, grab that. The actual story plays out more like episodes of Star Trek: Next Gen, except instead of a regular cast, and then introduced characters whom you may never see again, it's one person, and the rest of the cast you might never see again. Even in Cataclysm Blizzard demonstrated that they don't pay attention to what fans are saying so we get treated to...

1: More poop quests. Because we didn't say it was stupid in the original game, Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King. Except we did.

2: Entire zones devoted to annoying Hollywood references.

I have a hard time not seeing past the grind because of the simple fact that doing it with friends still means you're engaging in a grind. The more I played the game the more obvious that carrot on a stick became. The game in itself isn't really fun, especially once you hit end game. It's just a mindless slog against variations of Simon Says to get bigger numbers to slog against Simon Says Do DPS instead of Jump Over the Fire Rope.

And as much as I'd love to get back into the social part of it to disguise all of that the fact that I picked a class that's literally the most common on the server (A druid of any flavor is literally less desired than Hunters of any spec or Paladins) from way back when the server first started I'm unwanted.

WoW.

Anyone who says otherwise is letting their hatred of WoW overrule their sense of reality.

Fixed the embed for you.

Also, what I wrote was more of a rant on people who claim an MMO will kill World of Warcraft, I wasn't talking specifically about Guild Wars 2.

EDIT: I'm sorry. No offense... but what does Guild Wars 2 do different? This sounds like Cataclysm but with better graphics and what seems like a different combat. I dunno they didn't really talk about Combat much so it could just be like World of Warcrafts Combat.

One of the things they said 'You kill a boss and ten minutes later it is still there' like I said before, phasing in World of Warcraft, you kill the boss and then it is gone. That's right, with phasing you make an impact on the World of Warcraft.

'You make a choice and it spirals out' I assume they mean the choices you make affect the game, same with World of Warcraft. You get handed two quests, one leads you to join an army, you start off as a grunt (lowest rank) you fight your way to the top by slaughtering the other faction, once you reach the top you discover a horrible plot to 'nuke' a school for children, you try and stop it, but you can't. They all die. The horrible realization that if you had taken the other quest the children would have lived. If you hadn't have joined the army they never would have gotten your special skills and been able to push forward their offensive.

They also mentioned something about centaurs running away. I assume they mean in-game cinematics? I dunno. You get some of that in World of Warcraft, but World of Warcraft relies more on scripted scenes, which are more interactive. Instead of you pusing a button and then a cut-scene, you push the button and can still move around during the cut-scene.

I only watched the video up until 5 minutes, so if unless there was more talking after, the only thing Guild Wars does different is better graphics, and from what I can see a different form of Combat.

Thanks, and understood.

I was addressing your "please enjoy your World of Warcraft clone in peace," since it seemed to be aimed at this thread.

Is GW2 going to make every fight completely different in every single way?
If not then It's just as "grindy" as WoW.

WoW doesn't really have to be good, it just has to keep people playing. Or paying, I should say. The amount of money it's brought Blizzard is outrageous.

If any uppcomming MMO will have any chanse against WoW, i think GW2 will jave the best chanse (also possible KotOR). Even with the 12 million players of WoW, GW had it's fair share of players as well. The game will still get some million players, but maybe not to win over Wow. A tie maybe?

WoW. Sorry, GW2 does look awesome, but it's not going to beat the infernal armies (including myself) of WoW subscribers.

WoW will have more players. GW2 will be a better game.

I am happy with this arrangement.

Is GW2 pay to play or is it like its predecessor where you just buy the game and play it online. If, its not pay to play the point is moot because even if 50 million people play it the won't be back the money from the game that wow does. So wow may lose a few subcscription, but if its just buy our game you can easily play both.

personally, Guild Wars 2, because that's the one I'm buying. I didn't unlock all those Hall of Monuments items for nothing. And I hate any form of monthly payment.
