The gameplay of EP1 and EP2 is fundamentally no different than HL2. If you don't enjoy HL2, you won't enjoy the episodes.
Put a few more hours into HL2 and see if it "gets better". Personally I enjoyed even the parts that others here seem to hate (read: vehicle sections). If it doesn't do it for you, go play something with chest-high walls.

I'm honestly loved that game, and i find it hard seeing how you halo over it. But what can I say I'm a fan boy!

Play it all, you won't regret it afterwards. Episodes 1 and 2 are jam-packed with all sorts of awesomeness, but you'll feel this sense of incompleteness to the game if you skip Half-Life 2. Most of the game will cease to make sense, and instead of being immersed in the experience, you'll treat it like a generic shooter. Please play through it all.
Yeah, it is boring, but the gameplay works well enough and the story's nice, but since you've already made it to the highway you should go ahead and finish, plus there aren't any more vehicle sections.
Well, as many people have said, playing the episodes without playing the initial HL2 release will mean missing out on a lot of the storyline. And some fantastic game play.

The episodes continue the half life story, play half life 2 than do the episodes. Besides the game play for half life 2 is fun.
Half-Life 2 had an epic feeling that is lacking in many of the latest shooters, and the episodes build from that. Skipping the main event would be seriously stupid. I reckon it's one of the top ten or twenty games of the decade. Certainly one of my favourites.

The first half of the game is just a showcase of the features that were added in the Source engine. It gets better once you get past them. Of course, now that you've heard all this your expectations will be set too high for you to enjoy it properly.

No, Half Life 2 just didn't interest me, I wanted to know whether I should play it or skip it and move onto the episodes without spoiling any plot lines by searching through it.Cheesebob said:
