Apparently sometime this year Half Life:Source will be coming out, so let's hope that it will happen and that us console whores can get in as well.
Half-Life source is already out. Just same old HL1 graphics with the Source engine. I think you're thinking about Black Mesa, which is a HL2 mod. Mod as in you need a source engine game on steam to play (and it will probably be free).

But it is a mod, and therefore will only be available on PC.

Nah, you'll be confused either way. I recommend just looking up the story.
no, play HL1 first, then 2, then read the story while obtaining an American fire arm. after you have finished reading the story, shoot yourself in the head because of how fucking wierd HL2's storyline is

I played Half-Life 2 before Half-Life, and I was amazed at how little the story in Half-Life impacted the second game.

But if you going to play Half-Life do it first because you probaly won't finish it after Half-Life 2 because Half-Life 2 is VASTLY superior.
Which is what happened to me.

Who. Said. No??? Hint: one of them has a 1 on the end. The other one has a 2 on the end, this meaning that the one with a one on the end comes first! Yeah. Play HL1 first.

Lol ditto. You'll understand the story better if you read it somewhere else then try to catch it in game, especially if you play 2 first.

I voted "yes" because Half-Life 1 is a fantastic game in it's own right.

At least, it was eleven years ago...

Honestly either way your going to be confused. Half-Life 2 has a great story...if the get past the whole "WTF is happening!?" part.

Wiki is your friend here.

oops. i thought you were asking if we had played half life before half life 2.

to be totally honest, it doesn't really matter. the storylines are very different, and not really linked at all. only play the first one first if you want to know why gordon ends up working for g-man, if you're not lazy enough to just use wikipedia.

No, half life made me question physics facilitys. For instance. Why does a physics faclity need grenades, health facilitys, armour repairation faciltys, submachineguns, assault rifles and pistols. I mean come on, why? Did they know that aliens were going to invade? In which case, a heads up before entering the room with the crystal would have been nice. I mean is it that hard to say, oh btw aliens might jump out and start cappin asses, so, yh watch out for that. In any case, I didn't find any other scientists while playing. Some one shot all of them, in the face, repeatedly. I totally found them like that.

I played the Half-Life 2 demo to get a little insight of what all the fuzz was about. That demo left me really hanging because of all these person that apperantly knew you. I mean, who the fuck is this guy in blue suit? Never the less, I played through HL1 first to get the whole story and bam, suddenly everything was much clearer.

Long story short, if you're a story-nazi like myself then by all means play the first one first but if you just want a slight actionbreeze just play the sequel.

Damn. Well, here's hoping that someone will get the bright idea to try to port it to the consoles.

Yes, but if you didn't play Half-Life 1, like I didn't you are not going to have a CLUE what's going on.
I disagree partially here. Mostly because I feel playing HL1 more fills in the blanks about HL2, but you could play HL2 on its own as some of the backstory is revealed, although I do agree that especially towards the beginning of HL2, you would be a bit lost if you've not played HL1

Stop beeing stupid, you have to play Half Lige before you play the second part.
