didnt notice my typo i meant to say Buddies. as in the fact that barney shot things and killed them. Halo is a diff story anytime you got an aid from some AI Tard he was basically only a bullet magnet. also the aliens in half-life are very simple they are not an advanced psecies. and im going by the first version of each game. so no antlions there... the se aliens were primative in the aspect of a non-centralized militia... they were more of your spore creature creator types with instinct running.IsoNeko said:Half-Life - Antlions charge at you, Combine Charge at you and Headcrabs pounce at you.Shadowlolz said:Half-life. waaaaaaay better story and bonus points for competent AI biddies
Halo - Grunts charge at you, Jackals run away and stay back to snipe, Brutes act as a commanding officer to each other and lower ranks, as well as being capable soldiers in their own right, Hunters are Foot-Soldier Tank Hybrids that act like a tank. Come in hard and heavy. Drones fly around and swarm you.
This is enough to discount your "Half Life has better AI" Nonsense. But I can continue going on about how the Flood have various niche filling forms and even the enemy vehicles do too.
I suppose the people who play it make the game bad then?Cpt_Oblivious said:Half Life. You don't get uneducated twats screaming in multiplayer.
It also seems to have a story, and a likeable main character.
Also: Mute box art guy does not count as a likable character. At least MC speaks and interacts appropriately with those around him. Such as holding onto Johnsons hand as he passes away. Kneeling over Cortana as he rescues her from the clutches of Gravemind and joking with her to cheer her up after spending so long with it. Checking on his team-mates after his Pelican nearly gets rammed down by an allied Pelican that's just been shot down (During the Trident cutscene, when the Pelican rams your Hog off. Chief looks at the ODST next to him to make sure he's okay).
Halo isnt that bad, just not quite up to the same sort of level that HL isDragonChi said:Halo and Half-Life shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence or the same breath. it insults the masterpiece that Half-Life is.
I thought you meant Baddies. But either way my point still stands. Marines, Elites, Arbiter, Johnson and even the Flood all team up with you at one point or another in Halo. I'd much rather have an army that dies around me (more realistic to say the least) instead of juggernauting everything. Besides, if you kit out your Marines with uber awesome weaponry they are definetly a force to be reckoned with. The amount of times I've made sure every marine on my Tank who are sat on the tread guards have rockets, sniper rifles of gatling lasers is incredible. Much better than Alyx or Barney who are just there to provide backup audio commentary to the action. Invincible and Unfuny a good AI does not make.Shadowlolz said:didnt notice my typo i meant to say Buddies. as in the fact that barney shot things and killed them. I am not master chief and im glad im not.. he is very forced in his emotional acting in there. also if MC was a mute stioc as gordon the Halo series would have been utter shit story-wise imo. Half-life makes a great game both in gameplay and story without needing much of a script.
That's exactly my point. Halo masked it a lot better. There were open areas like in Half Life, but it was still mostly a straight line. But Half Life, particularly 2 and also Left 4 Dead, was very obvious in its attempts to block you, like putting couches on staircases or convenient roof cave ins and that sort of thing. I always felt like I was being herded. I look at levels like the Silent Cartographer in Halo 1...sure you have the same objective but a few different ways to approach it and the open feel to it made it seem a lot less linear. Or in Assault on the Control Room, where you can hijack a Banshee and save yourself a bunch of time but only if you're smart about it and do it properly.danosaurus said:Incredibly and VERY blatantly linear?rated pg said:Halo sold me on an original Xbox, and later several more games and a 360. Half Life was an alright, albeit incredibly and very blatantly linear, first person shooter. I picked up 2 when I got the Orange Box, beat it, enjoyed it, will buy the newest episode. But I didn't upgrade my PC in anticipation of it, I didn't pre-order it, I didn't pick up an Xbox to play it...so in terms of what had a lot more impact on me, it'd be Halo.
that's some maximum wording there
At what point was Halo ever any different in terms of linearity?
Halo may have masked the linearity in some areas and kudos to that but it was essentially on the same level.
Half-life was linear yes, though it compensated for this by utilising intelligent map designs and interactive, puzzle-like solutions to solve situations or defeat enemies in the game. This is what set it aside as more than just an FPS.
I've also never had to upgrade my PC for any Half-life games, that's what i love about the Source Engine - it's solid and well engineered to look brilliant on many PC's - Lowend to highend.
Let's nots gos down this dusties road agains. Believe me you'll regret it. I know I did when I made mine.Overlord Moo said:Alright. This is simple. Which one do you pick?
