I loved the series like my baby. It's nostalgic, charming to me and just overall a game series I have a lot of fun happy memories with. I loved the story (especially the story) and atmosphere and I loved each game equally, this series was what made me realise I was a gamer. I feel anything I say here will just be repeating myself so I'll just say this:
In my eyes, Halo is amazing.

Halo 1: Really fun coop. Great game.
Halo 2: Say, this is like Halo 1... with a worse campaign... But there is online multiplayer!
Halo 3: Say, this is like Halo 2.... exactly like Halo 2.

Given all of Halo's successes and flaws, over all, what do you think of this game series? Do you think the story is a load of shit, or a master piece? Game play awesome in its simplicity, or unoriginal and total crap?
This issue is very polarizing. I just want to know where everyone stands on this issue.
I stand somewhere in between. I don't hate it, but I am far from a lover of the game for its story or 'originality'.

Halo 2 was the only game in the series that I didn't like that much. The other two were excellent.

The game series got steadily worse single player as the games went on and where is the kinda middle ground opinion because not everyone will love or hate the game.

Loved the series!
Yeah!
Halo 2 and Halo 3 united the live community unlike any other game has ever and will ever do. Such a strong, unified community is what in part made the xbox so successful.
That is a big statement and I have to disagree with you there as Quake and Cod series have much more tighter online communities especially with clans spanning whole series.
The xbox is a lot more successful because it is cheaper that is what really gave it's edge and a slightly bigger library of games not because of Halo there were much better exclusive games Microsoft could of picked to be it's flagship game.
Also why knowingly start a thread with such extreme options which is going to probably create a flame war.
This. QFT. I have an xbox 360 and the only halo i have for it is Halo 1. Best one in my eyes.

I'm not too big a fan of the story and single-player campaigns, but the multi-player is still one of the best around. Thus a vote goes to love it.

I wish I had a "This thread will not end well" banner...

Oh, wait a tic!

Anyway, more on topic, I liked all three. Not my favourite games, but they were playable.

H3 was extemely fun online though.

I nothing it... The game is fun for a while, but the story is just boring and the only reason I bought the first game for my PC, was to kick my friends asses online... the Single player is just down right slow and gives no closure whatsoever, and the "flood" is just one big spoof of the headcraps in Half Life 2... I don't hate it, noir love it :)

Like it. I love the atmosphere, the art and the music, and its status as the first good (non-Goldeneye) console FPS. The plot is a little lacklustre though.

fairly neutral to the series as a whole actually, due to the fact that i've barely played it.

one of my friends is a fan though, and he slightly unnerves me a lot of the time about it.

I'd love for there to be an 'indifference' option...

I think the Halo series is a good enough FPS, no more, no less. It's been successful and that's all well and good, but I don't think it's nothing special. I quote Yahtzee, "I'm not saying Halo is bad, what it is is average, boiling point, run of the mill... everything it does has been done before bigger and better."

One of these days, someone will make the perfect forum. One with an "autofill" feature on new topic titles, thus warning the poster of redundancy. One day.

Anyway, the first two were fun, and the third went the Quake 3: Arena route, solely catering to the un-inventive multiplayer.

Liked both 1 & 2 on console & the co-op smacked it, never played 3

Doubt I would have seen the fuss about them on PC at all, probably would just have been another unreal 2

In fact all these Halo threads have inspired me to play through the games more times than I probably should have & I still like them.

never really come into contact with these annoying fanboys I hear everybody talking about so no harm no foul.

I liked the first one, it allowed to me to pistol whip what was essentially an intergalactic gnome.

After that I lost interest. It couldn't get me to take it seriously anymore, sure some of you will now say, "How could you to begin with?" But it entertained me with the first one and after that it stopped. I had hoped Halo 3 would have sparked some new interest, but it didn't and I dropped the game - and the series - altogether. The pistol whipping just never felt the same.
