Real men cry. I know this because the toughest men I have ever known have cried several times in front of me. These men show that they really care...and that is what a real man does. This included my Dad, and members of the Armed Forces I served with. One of the most memorable things that made me cry was when Peter Jennings broke down on the air while he was covering the events of 9/11. It captured what every American was feeling. As for music, movies, etc. of course these can cause me to tear up as well if it brings back a powerful enough memory. However I could break 3 bones and not even let out a reaction.

We're not discussing real men crying, nor the fascist American military, we're discussing what you covered in the last 2 sentences.

This might be a thread about media causing heartfelt emotions but that doesn't mean we can't discuss our personal feelings about crying and belittling others for doing so will only make it harder. And, by the way, radio is also a form of media so discussing that is still on-topic.

And I take offense at the idea that "Men Don't Cry". Men who don't cry are either emotionally dead or are so afraid of being belittled for showing emotion that they bottle them up. Real Men Cry, because only those who can brave the stereotype are "True Men".

On a softer note (though no less on topic), only two shows have ever made me cry.
SPOILERS!
The death of Hughes in Full Metal Alchemist, and the death of Kamina in Gurren-Lagann.
SPOILERS!
They killed two of the most likeable characters in anime ever. *cry*

I got my answer wrong on the poll. I thought a book had never made me cry but just remembered "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb. That made me cry, so I qualify for 4 of the options.

God, what a little wuss.

EDIT: For those who've not cried because of a film, try Requiem for a Dream. Enjoy!

For something a bit less extreme, The Green Mile.

Too many films for me to name them all. Just to mention a few: The Lives of Others, Ghost Dog, Good Will Hunting, Plague Dogs...

I've also cried to various political speeches, such as Arundhati Roy's 'Come September'

EDIT: oh yeah, Immortal Technique's "You Never Know" also made me cry.

Many an anime series has made me cry, as have some games (and considering what forum we're on, I was very surprised at the lack of a game option). The Japanese company Key Software, to take the most famous example, is a game studio that could easily fill a moat or three around their offices with all the tears shed by their products' consumers. Yes, they make those dodgy games whose main objective is to get the male player character into the heart/pants (they used to make the latter category, then went all-ages and released extra "no sex please, we're Japanese" versions of their older products) of one or more female NPCs. And yes, their art style may take getting used to - many characters look very underage, and occasionally their upper lip seems to be horizontally aligned with their lower eyelids. But their storytelling is utterly brilliant, as is their soundtrack department. Three of the four most successful games they've released so far (Air, Kanon, Clannad) have spawned anime series, all of them have stimulated my lachrymal glands to release watery fluid, and an adaptation of the fourth one (Little Busters!) seems not too far off.

Apart from game-based series, I am also not ashamed to admit that I shed a few tears at a Sailor Moon season finale (though I forget which one - it was just too long ago), and also at several episodes of Fruits Basket even on the fourth re-watch.

But not only animated Japanese stories make me cry, oh no. There's also the wonderful work of manga to squeeze the tears from my face. I had great difficulty reading the final chapters of Love Hina because the watery film constantly covering my corneas made the speech bubbles very blurry.

Leaving the wonderful world of Japanese fanboy culture, I have also shed tears at episodes of ER (does the name Lucy ring a bell for anyone?) and even Futurama. The bastards, the complete and utter bastards. Ahem.

That option was just a joke, don't take it seriously. I get teary all the time when nobody's looking.

Id have to say The Hills Have Eyes 2 because theres rape which i was not expecting at all. i was freaking out, balling my eyes out because i was so mad. people get off on that and it makes me so sick! God damn that movie straight to hell. even without the rape scene it was a shitty worthless excuse for entertainment.

I used to just laugh at the drama, then I for whatever reason started getting choked up over it. Oh god, my empathy developed and I'm screwed into being a tearful ninny whenever the farmer tells Babe "That'll do pig... That'll do." *snivel*

Just to point out, the poll makes no sense. More than 2 and More than 3 can both mean all of them.

Anyways, 10000 Days by Tool gets me, because its about the death of a mother.

The ending of Return of the King gets me too, because its just so sad and beautiful.

Cinema, sitcoms, dramas, music, none of them seem to evoke [i\]too[/i] much of a teary response. They have been close, and quite a few of them. An example of the closest is in "I Am Legend" when-
The main character is forced to choke his dog to death.

The ones that really get the faucets flowing are books. The written word always does it for me.

The one that had me close to depression was [i\]"A Storm of Swords"[/i] from the [i\]"A Song of Ice and Fire"[/i] series, where the main character Catelyn Stark-
Watches as her son Robb is betrayed during a wedding by someone who had given their honor not to harm him, and he is then stabbed in the gut from behind by one of his own men. Oh, that's not all. Before this happened, here's a few more things.

Catelyn's beloved husband Eddard Stark is beheaded on false accusations of killing the King, who was his friend.

Her father, Hoster Tully, dies after prolonged sickness senility.

Catelyn's daughter Sansa is held prisoner, with little chance of release, by Queen Regent Cersei, whom she hates.

Her other daughter Arya has gone missing and is likely dead.

Bran, her son, was thrown out of a window, and barely survived, leaving both his legs crippled and putting him in a coma. She stays by his bedside in a state of depression, until an assassin tries to kill him. Despite the fact the assassin is foiled, she is must leave the castle Winterfell. Bran wakes up while she is away, and then, during the sack of Winterfell, is reported to have been killed, beheaded, flayed, and doused in oil, along with her youngest son, Rickon, who was only four or five years old.

Her home was destroyed, along with nearly her entire family. Seeing her son stabbed before her eyes drives her mad. She rakes her face with her fingernails, before they cut her neck, strip her naked, and dump her in the river.

If I forgot anything, please remind me.

The Green Mile. When Tom Hanks' character says 'When I get to heaven and God asks me why I killed one of his miracles what am I supposed to say?' Oh God....

And the Season 4 Finale of House
Seriously. It wasn't because Amber died, I hated Cut-Throat *****, it was because Wilson is such a nice guy and to see him that sad was heartbreaking. Can anyone honestly say they wouldnt want to be Wilson's friend?
