First and least importantly its graphics pale in comparison to the ps4 and xbone, so whenever it tries to run something like Xenoblade it chugs horribly.
As an owner of the aforementioned game- what are you talking about?

It's game library is less than impressive.
I can't really say that your wrong on this because it's a matter of opinion. However I can say the same for the Xbox One and PS4 only very few titles on there interest me and certainly not enough to convince me to buy the console. One should ask why you bought the Wii U if the usual games Nintendo boasts weren't up your ally.

Nintendo's marketing team are foul as usual and purposefully don't make many copies of their games.
When? The only thing you can argue about is Collectors editions and the early amiibo crisis. But most Wii U Nintendo games were plenty in stock.

Don't believe the fan boys it isn't because they are quality products, its just to keep the value from going down. It's insidious and shitty.
This makes zero sense. Retailers like Gamestop keep the price tags at that price literally because nobody trades in Nintendo games and when they are in stock they get bought up real quick. This isn't a fanboy thing. This is a fact.

The reason I would argue the Wii U is awful is that the tablet controller is irreplaceable.
Yeah well no shit.

So if it breaks you are out of options.
It's a good thing they made it durable as fuck and one has to wonder what in the hell you are doing to the damn thing to warrant this being a big issue sans a really unfortunate series of events.

The only thing we know about the NX is the release date and there?s an upcoming Zelda game for it (which is also getting a WiiU release). I don?t think anything of it at the moment. I do tend to like quite a lot of Nintendo games though so I?d say it?s possible I?ll end up getting one?

The WiiU certainly has not scared me off though since I found it to be an awesome little console. I realise that?s not a popular opinion but I played more on WiiU then anything (asides from maybe 3DS because Pokemon).

I also thought the gamepad was great - offscreen play really worked for me. Pretty sure Nintendo offers repairs for the console and gamepad both in and out of warranty, so I mean, you can?t buy a new one in stores but you can go through Nintendo? Has there been anything to suggest there?s a high failure rate (genuine question - I?ve heard nothing about it nor experienced any problems myself)?

Given the current trend of "good games, shit sales" and "shit games, good sales" from Gamecube to Wii to WiiU, I can only assume that the NX will have a terrible library but massive sales, like the Wii.

So I suppose, in a sense, yes, the WiiU is making me quite wary of the NX, as the WiiU seems to be quite similar to the Gamecube in a lot of ways. A shame, really, because the WiiU has/had a lot of potential, were it not for 3rd party devs and the games media jumping ship before it even fucking sailed, causing Nintendo to ditch it prematurely in turn.

It's funny seeing people wax nostalgically about things like the GameCube and N64 when these exact complaints were used about those consoles years back.
Ok. I'm interested to know which you mean.

Are you saying 'other' people used to complain about the Gamecube and N64 back when they were released "years back"? Or, are you saying the 'same' people now complained about the previous consoles years back like they're complaining about the Wii U now? And if the latter, who? And also, what type of complaints? Were they minor or big complaints?

You need more to show the hypocrisy, other way it's null void.

Just throwing my two cents in here. I hated the wiiU and wii for that matter. Over time I've warmed up to the wii and still have some distaste for the wiiU. I owned the Xbox -Xbone and sold off the Xbone (and just went 100% pc). Honestly I think they will learn from their mistakes from the WiiU, and the only kind of console that appeals to me anymore is a party console so if they sort their shit out and give me a decent system I'll buy it at launch (after not owning a N console since Super Nintendo). Throw in a Mario Party game and Mario Cart and I'll be excited about it and have a launch party at my house. Seriously my PC is great but it's not very social on its own.

Odds of me getting one are pretty high but if Nintendo pulls more shit, I'm going to be playing this on every device in my house on repeat for a week.

Yes and no. The Wii U and 3DS were my foray back into Nintendo after many years of not owning their consoles (I only owned a Gameboy and Nintendo 64 previously). And while I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of them, the reason I bought them was for those classic Nintendo IPs and for the most part I was disappointed with the games on offer. So that has made me wary of any future Nintendo purchases.

With that said, consoles are all about the exclusives. I haven't bought an XBone or PS4 because the Xbone has no exclusives I want and the PS4 only has Bloodborne. And as much as I'd like to play Bloodborne I'm not buying a console for one game. If the NX ends up having a bunch of exclusives that look good, then yeah, I might give it a go.

Only the NX will scare me away from buying an NX. I got a Wii U after a couple of price drops and a sale or something like that. It has been my least favorite Nintendo console and really was a failure. I to this day use my Wii more than my Wii U.

But as far as consoles go (I'm primarily a pc gamer) I'm a Nintendo guy. With the exception of the Wii U, in my opinion it has won every generation from NES to Wii.

But, I'm afraid. I see the signs. The NX is going to be some kind of "innovative" gimmicky console (like the Wii U) and integrate some new hardware that doesn't really go anywhere (like motion, and touchscreens.) It will continue to be difficult for 3rd parties to develop for and games will otherwise be difficult to port over to it. The Wii had all of those problems, but still managed to be good... I'm not very hopeful they can pull that off again.

Ummm, no...

I have a wonderful set of Wii U exclusives, probably more than the average PS4 or Xbox One owner that I see. I would have bought it for a good 2-3, but with around 20+ great titles I have for it, I feel my money was more than well spent. I have the most games for my PS4, with only 7 games on my XBone, but I'm certainly eagerly awaiting the next Nintendo console

No it doesn't affect it. I waited until there were enough games on the Wii U that I wanted before buying one, and I'll do the same with the NX.

Considering I currently spend my time between my PC and Wii U, my PS3 goes almost unused, and the only games on the ps4 I want is blood borne and dark souls 3, (no interest in X1), the nx is the only console I'm even considering.

I really like the Wii U, because Nintendo, regardless of stumbles, is actually trying new "experiences" with their games, instead of brown shooter 3 with the same controls for 2 decades. Games like ZombiU, Splatoon, and XCX use the gamepad in ways that make me miss it in other games. Call it a gimmick if you want, but I found it fun to adapt and conquer the new controls. And off screen play is awesome too. Bring on the new stuff, since I'll stick to my PC to play everything else as Sony and Microsoft made only cheap pcs as consoles this gen with few exclusives, and my PC is already better than them. I hope Nintendo makes some serious sequels too (Mario Galaxy 3...), but innovation is better than stagnation, and at the very least, Nintendo consoles are well constructed machines, so I can't be that disappointed. We shall wait and see.

Not wanting another monochrome shooter is not the same as wanting gimmicky controls. The Gamepad's greatest contribution is off-TV play but there is nothing innovative about a second screen. Not since the DS was doing it 8 years before Wii U did it. Honestly, the second screen on the Wii U is kind of a nuisance when it's not being used as a another TV. On the DS/3DS you don't need to look up to see the top screen or down to see the bottom screen. Both screens are in view with no head movement involved. In 2011 when they announced the Wii U at E3, I said this is just a console version of a DS. It was a bad idea put together (and named) for the wrong reasons.

After all the gimmicky controls we have seen in the last two generations, people still strongly prefer traditional controls. Nintendo just likes the gimmicky controls because it sets them apart, so they don't have to compete.

I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the SNES, so Nintendo are basically irrelevant to me. I honestly don't think there is anything they can do to appeal to me, as their first party IPs don't interest me at all, and their second and third party support is negligible.

Well... yes. Although "Wii U scared me of buying a NX console" is probably not the best way to put it. More like, the Wii U was the last chance I gave Nintendo as a console's manufacturer, and it didn't play out. I decided to support them this generation instead of the competition because, for better or for worst, they are the most unique. Almost everything available on the other consoles is available on the competition or PC as well, so I had no interest in buying a new console to play the same games available on Steam.

Little did I know that the Wii U would be their least supported console of recent years (except for the Virtual Boy). Almost no games from their franchises, and many of those that are feel more like remakes of previous ones: New Super Mario is nowhere near the level of polish other Mario games had, new Star Fox is basically a remake of 64, there are no new Zelda or Metroid, and Nintendo decided to kill it even before there were one.

That is probably the worst part for me about the Wii U/NX. We are less than a year from release, the Wii U was released less than 4 years ago, and we don't even have any details about what the next thing is; yet Nintendo already wrote it down as a failure and killed all support. The whole point for me to buy a console is to have some support in years to come. It is about buying something with some longevity in it; to know you are covered for the duration. The NES generation lasted 7 years (and they keep making games for it for much longer), the SNES and Wii generations lasted 6 years... The Wii U has the shortest lifespan by far, and the weakest support.

So yes, besides the fact we know nothing about the NX, there is the issue of trust about their support that was tarnished with the Wii U.

I dunno, if was ~15 years ago. I'd just gotten my driver's license around the GameCube launch.

Same ones. Less powerful, odd format, wonky controls, no third party support, just rehashes of old games, too kiddie, not selling enough, yada yada yada.

Nintendo's been doomed by it's poor consoles for 20 years now. They've been doomed for a longer period of time then they've been not-doomed. Heck, I'm pretty sure they've been doomed since the Genesis and Nomad/Game Gear were more powerful than Nintendo's offerings at the time.

That's a long time to be doomed.

No, I'm... pretty satisfied with my WiiU purchase. It's hardware and controller were pretty abysmal as far as third party support and developers were concerned, but I, as a consumer, never truly cared, plus I've gotten a pretty fair amount of use out of the thing. And heck even if I didn't, I don't think it'd have much of an effect on my potential enjoyment of an NX, the same way the PS2 and Wii had nothing to do with my potential enjoyment of the PS3 and WiiU respectively.

No, if anything makes me wary of the NX, it's that I have no idea what it is and Nintendo won't divulge any info. My philosophy for purchasing it is the same as all my purchases: if it's got some neat features and at least 3 must-have games on it, then it's mine.

This is a pc-centric website, so most of us here know that consoles live and die on their exclusives. The other two consoles have none, and contrary to popular belief, the WiiU had a metric CRAPton. Also, as I have pointed out several times before, the WiiU is the only current console that reliably runs its games at 60 fps, with the xbox1 often struggling to break 30. People can sing the death of
Nintendo all day long, it won't make any difference. Nintendo is the only of the big 3 that matters.

Depends on what the gimmick of the NX is. Wii had those remotes. Wii U had a tablet controller. Anyone heard anything about that?

"Scared Off" isn't quite the phrase I would use, but am I going to be buying an NX? Fuck no, I bought the Wii U and then nintendo left that console to rot and only had a few good first party releases once every few years, Maybe I'll consider getting an NX a few years after its release when its cheaper and there are good games on it, assuming I'm even interested in it since lets be honest, NOBODY knows anything about it aside from vague (and disturbing) phrases from nintendo heads about "focusing on mobile gaming"

TL:DR

If the NX comes out and its another gamecube (A good console with good nintendo games coming out regularly and no Bullshit gimmicks shoved into everything) I'll consider getting it at some point down the line, but nobody knows what it is yet

Yes, and it hurts me to say that. I didn't enjoy the Wii and I bought the Wii U because a number of friends had it and I enjoyed it when I was hanging out with them. I quickly realized I'd made a mistake when the few games I did want grew old quickly (especially if you don't have anyone to play them with) and nothing I found really all that interesting was coming down the pipeline. I loved my Gamecube and my N64. I Want to love Nintendo again, but they seem dead-set on sticking with their gimmicks and crappy marketing instead of putting out quality titles on the regular. Now with their statements about the NX being mobile focused I have even less of a reason to hold out any hope.

Ah well. I saw the direction this gen was going and built my PC. Best decision I could have made.
