Jimmy Carter says that much of the bile against President Barack Obama's health reforms and spending plans is "based on racism". [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8258011.stm]

I must admit that much of the rage I've seen at town hall meetings in America baffles me. There's talk of tyranny but no one said much of anything when George W was bringing in the patriot act.

Do you agree that race is a factor? I keep hearing people talk about taking America back, from who? Or do you think that Obama supports are, I love this phrase, "using the race card"?

Well, I am a huge supporter of Obama but I think alot of it is cause hes a very democratic president, and also we (democrats) were just as guilty of badmouthing Bush as republicans have Obama. Cept we were not 90% bullshit. (I will accept some was, but I cant help if crazyness affect all parties)

Are some just racist? Yes, but I think its more a republican vs democrat thing.

You must not have been listening.

I remember a pretty damn huge uproar--not this huge, certainly, but Obama is doing even more to take away our freedoms than Bush did.

On topic: This has nothing to do with race. Obama is the most socialist president the United States has ever had. That's what this is about.

Of course there are going to be some racist's out there especially as he is the first black president, so some people are going to pick up on the disrest at the moment and have a chance to show their anger otherwise they'd be a minority. But then again if this was Hillary Clinton i'm sure she'll get sexism thrown at her too. I'm a huge supporter of Obama even though i'm not American and to be honest i don't see how he is being tyrannical? :S They said Charles I was tyrannical when all he did was excerise his rights as a monarch.

no, I do not hate him, nor do I love him...

what those americans should do is realize that their beloved us of a has a SERIOUS problem. Obama is AT LEAST trying to solve it, and even though I have a very basic understanding of economict, even I know that printing money is only a temprary sollution to state debt.

and he's doing a damn sight better than georg dubya bush whose sollution was just to lower taxes...

Oh, well I was all for Obama until he murdered that fly on live TV...lawl, d'you know I actually heard a girl in my Classic Civilisations class say that?

But OT, I don't doubt that many people out there disagree with Obama's policies solely under the premise that he's black, but there are also plenty of people who are not blinded by colour and disagree for other reasons.

I think for (hopefully) most people, it's just because of the political issues that are ever present between conservatives and liberals.

But I am sad to say that I do think it's a race issue for some.

Lowering taxes was a good idea, wasting trillions on a pointless war that we had nothing to gain from was a bad idea. Taking away our freedoms was a bad idea and continues to be a bad idea. Printing valueless money is a catastrophically bad idea, and isn't even a temporary solution.

He didn't say hating obama makes you racist, he said racism plays a role in the number of people disliking him.

It's not a blanket statement of if you dislike him, you're racist, it's a shade of colour showing contribution.

I agree with him, the simple fact is a lot of people dislike obama because he is black, that's obvious. Racism is nothing new, and it's still undertaken by a lot of people, subconciously or consciously. Carter just called a spade a spade with this one.

In terms of specific cases, I'm not sure if he's correct on the particular case highlighted being racism.

Although I think most the vitriol in terms of his health-care plans comes from the hilarious deepseated fear, unique to america, of anything that could be perceived as communism.

OMG you americans sure do love your politics, in Australia very few people go 'WE HATE OUR CURRENT LEADER' we are more likely to go 'meh, in a few years we can just vote him out if e don't like his policies'. It was only when John Howard brought in the retarded workplace stuff that people got a bit restless about politics.

Bush created the patriot act that allows the state to ignore human right when they decide they need to, and he constructed prison camps on Cuba that have become famous for prisoner abuse. And Obama is.....aiming to regulate gun ownership? Wow! (Sarcasm).
Obama is expanding and continuing the Patriot Act (several parts of it were set to expire in the near future--not anymore). Not to mention he fucking nationalized GM. I could go on and on...

Yeah well, being an australian, it doesn't really matter who we put in power anyway, they are pretty much the same.

Plus our decisions affect a tiny amount, where as the U.S. is a superpower, any decisions they make have a huge impact on the entire planet.

sorry for being pedantic, but explain to me how lowering taxes in a time like this is a good idea please...
on the other hand, printing money does actually have some positive effect, most notably it decreases the value of the dollar (in this case) and as the state debt is calculated in dollars and mostly lent in dollars, the value of the state debt actually decreases... so that is a positive effect, but granted most of the negative effects outweigh this single one...

Spank you, spank you very much for the cake!

Yeah jibjab are really great. The best about them is that they're actually able to do some quite hilarious political satire without actually forcing you to take a political stance. I mean no matter if you're a republican or a democrat, fan of Obama or non-fan of Obama you should be able to find the video funny and clever.
