Do I think the arguments against health care are racist: fuck no!

Do I think they're based on ignorance: for the most part. Some arguments I've heard are well thought out but very few

conclusion: just because Obama's black and people say ignorant things about him does NOT mean those people are racist.

Well, I am a huge supporter of Obama but I think alot of it is cause hes a very democratic president, and also we (democrats) were just as guilty of badmouthing Bush as republicans have Obama. Cept we were not 90% bullshit. (I will accept some was, but I cant help if crazyness affect all parties)

Are some just racist? Yes, but I think its more a republican vs democrat thing.
Well...its comforting that someone can at least acknowledge that each party has their crazies in it.

You must not have been listening.

I remember a pretty damn huge uproar--not this huge, certainly, but Obama is doing even more to take away our freedoms than Bush did.

On topic: This has nothing to do with race. Obama is the most socialist president the United States has ever had. That's what this is about.
And...this is what I would have said.

I don't hate Obama, I hate his policies. In fact, I actually rather like the man himself, and I think he's a brilliant public speaker as well as a man of conviction. That being said, this is not the first time Carter has done or said something ridiculous (like getting a woman killed while drunk).

I'm also laughing my ass off at these people who somehow think the democrats are nice and innocent. Democrats are as guilty of whipping up hatred and spewing vitriol as Republicans. I mean, a Democrat would never say something so outrageous as, say, anyone who disagrees with the president is a racist. Oh, wait...

No, it isn't moronic. If somebody is racist, then they are going to hate Obama. Or, did you mean to say the idea that ALL people hate Obama?

Racism is moronic. Sorry.

More to your question, the accusation that people hate Obama because he's black was another irritating idiosyncrasy of the previous election. During the primaries, and even during the election, it was either you didn't vote for Obama/Biden because you were racist or you didn't vote for McCain/Palin because you were sexist. Oddly, it's carried over past the election, so, rather then disagreeing with him because I don't like his methods and letting that be, instead I'm aparantly racist because I don't agree with him.

This is part of the reason people assume the hate for Obama is racism. I mean, really--"Obama is the most socialist president the United States has ever had"? Really? He's more socialist than FDR? I don't even think he's as socialist as Eisenhower. Even Herbert Hoover had a version of TARP by the end of his term of office:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconstruction_Finance_Corporation

So when people see comments as divorced from reality as this, the tendency is to think that something like racism is making an otherwise rational person say something so off the wall. In other words, the irrational behavior you would expect from racism meets Occam's Razor call for the simplest explanation more than the idea that someone actually believes Obama to be "the most socialist president the United States has ever had."
It could be the contrast. As you've said, the Republican party has gradually shifted further and further to the right. It's easy to sit on the right edge of the movie theater, see a guy in the middle and think he's "way over to the left." Because, relative to you (not you specifically, just to clarify), he kind of IS.

That said, I've yet to see Obama do anything TOO socialist. He even said recently that we weren't pulling out of Iraq. I kind of thought that had been part of his campaign focus. And yeah, he's got a long way to go before he's anywhere as "socialist" as FDR.

HE IS A DEMOCRAT. REPUBLICANS DO NOT LIKE DEMOCRATS. On the other hand, some people I'm sure do hate purely because he is black.
