... Would I be a complete **** if I suggested that the choice between democrats or republicans is like choosing between the plague and cholera? or AIDS or Cancer?

It would be foolish to think race doesn't play some part.

For the most part, however, I think it's just that the Republicans and Democrats have become so estranged and embittered against each other that any president would be subject to a lot of attacks from the opposite side.

Having said that, I think the likes of conservative talk radio and Fox News whip up particularly vicious hatred and have very little respect for truth, which makes Republicans worse than the Democrats for vitriolic and uninformed attacks.

There's talk of tyranny but no one said much of anything when George W was bringing in the patriot act.
You must not have been listening.

I remember a pretty damn huge uproar--not this huge, certainly, but Obama is doing even more to take away our freedoms than Bush did.

On topic: This has nothing to do with race. Obama is the most socialist president the United States has ever had. That's what this is about.
You say there was uproar over the patriot act but its nothing like the hate coming from town hall meetings at the moment.

Of course they're pulling the racism card, it works.

But I still don't like it.

Have to remember though, the incredible insecurity a lot of people felt right after the attacks, so we became a lot more impressionable than we would have been before.

Some people's problems with Obama are based on racism, there's no denying that, but most people's problems are more about misinformation about health care as well as their collective disappointment in Obama's failure to live up to his campaign thus far. That's what I think anyway.

Ah damn, you americans always remind me of a chicken farm (no offense, really). A lot of people running around and making a big fuzz about nearly everything the size of a grain. Everything in politics is emotional to no extent. Couldn't you all be a little less emotional about EVERYTHING and start being a little more LOGICAL about these things.

If GM is nationalized, okay that might be a bad or a good thing to you. But its nothing more, the world isn't gonna turn around and flip its movement. skies aren't falling, its just one
way to keep GM alive. If its the best is to debate about. But if you're gonna call out the end of the American system every fuckin' time somebody makes a decision you simply don't like just to round up people, your getting nearer to that possibility every day.

and OT: i strongly believe that racism is unfortunately one of the biggest american problems, that and people over-emotionalizing everything.

The problem woth most politics is that people treat their "side", whether it be democrat or republican (in in our case in australia, Labour and liberal), is that the treat it like some football team and make up their minds before the even hear the issues being presented.

But then again most people have been made to believe that there are really only two parties you can vote for, without even considering a third, fourth or fifth choice.

They're both right and they're both wrong. In the end there is no flawless system for society.

Yeah well, being an australian, it doesn't really matter who we put in power anyway, they are pretty much the same.
Yep, 1- Throw out most campaign promises or play on the words (every student gets laptops my ass)
2- try to curb the increasing popularity of the internet because it is 'harmful to the children' when instead it is just taking away a responisblity of parents that they should have to acquire.
3- Be unlikable (my own opinion, Gillard and Neal are the worst offenders)

But number 4 is a good one.
4- Get the crap ridiculed out of them by the chaser (well until they ended)

no, I do not hate him, nor do I love him...

what those americans should do is realize that their beloved us of a has a SERIOUS problem. Obama is AT LEAST trying to solve it, and even though I have a very basic understanding of economict, even I know that printing money is only a temprary sollution to state debt.

and he's doing a damn sight better than georg dubya bush whose sollution was just to lower taxes...
Although Lord Little-Beach is trying to stop the crisis there is just one small problem. He is trying to put a fire out with petrolium.

Haha, pretty much it.

Also, whatever party is in power, the other party has to do their best to look like complete fools. Labor looked ridiculous for like 13 years, and now liberal are doing the same thing.

I swear, all they need to do is just sit there saying nothing and they would get voted in, because whoever is in power just irritates the public.
