Not rude, outside of a few particular circumstances like sitting down for a proper meal at a dinner table. Or, you know, being in some form of church that has particular guidelines for the covering of one's head.

It's just an article of clothing after all.

I personally don't enjoy wearing hats, and i have been raised with the presumption that wearing hats indoors (especially while eating) is rude.
But when i think about it, i don't see anything wrong with it. There is no logical argument for not allowing someone to wear a hat where and when they want.

Well with more "sophisticated" hats like Top hats(personal fav) I understand this but really you expect youth to conform to the ideals of the older generations? I'm 16 and that sounds crazy even to me!

Depends, I wear hats in class and in the movies, but not in restaurants. And I usually wear a Yankees cap, but not with a flat brim. I always curve the bill, old school.

It pisses me the fuck off when someone comes into my house wearing a hat.

To all those wondering why it's rude, wearing a hat indoors shows a readiness to leave and, to an extent, that you value the company you're in so little that you're perfectly willing to drop everything and leave at a moment's notice, without any consideration for your host.

Simply having a hat on inside a building is not necessarily rude.

It is QUITE rude to have one on at, say, a meeting.

I (and people I know) really only wear hats when going to parties, pubs and the like and for those situations I think it's fine to wear it indoors, as long as people in the group aren't having dinner. There are a few of us who have a hat-ish cap (a baseball cap without the top basically, dunno what they're called in English) which belongs to our student overalls (Swedish tradition) which are exempt from this, as they're part of the overalls which kinda lowers the tone a huge amount.

No they're not rude. Half of my school always wears something on their head. I myself usually wear a Fedora hat.

What's wrong with wearing hats inside?

I understand not opening umbrellas in small places, and i understand why you shouldn't whistle inside with other people, but what do hats do that make them rude?

I don't care if you wear a hat or not, only as long as you aren't waving about like a buffon.

I usually wear an orange hunting-camouflage baseball hat, but when I can I wear an Aussie hat (it's kind of like a Panama hat, I guess). I normally don't, though, because it can't easily fit in my backpack when I have to take my hat off of school.

Well, if I wear a hat, it's my fedora, together with a coat and semi-suit trousers, good shoes... I always take the hat of when I settle down, ie. in class. While I'm walking around? Hell no.

Wow, some serious aggro there. We're talking about hats, not voting rights.
