Only once.

An elderly gentleman opened the door for my mother and I at Barnes & Noble. I don't remember exactly what was said, but he referred to us as ladies. It was probably my hair. But I'm rather slimly built, and my hands are a tad effeminate.

I can't recall any other moments where I've been mistaken as a girl, but I am frequently teased about my hair anyway. For both its length and its apparent similarity to a lion's mane.

I used to have really long hair, and wear baggy clothes. I walked into a Blockbuster with my mom and got greeted with a "Hello, ladies."

Yes actually haha. Sounds a bit strange until I explain it >.< When I was doing community service at an old persons home (or whatever they call them nowadays) and one of the old ladies their kept talking to me as if I was a girl... It was kind of awkward but I just went along with it haha.

Many times when I had sorter hair. Once was when I was taking a tour of the MCG with my mum and brother and the tour guy asked what team does her sons support. He was really embarassed when mum told him I was a girl.

No. Of course since this is the Internet I could secretly be a girl and putting on an elaborate deception because I'm some sort of nut job who gets off on that... but that would never happen, right?

*que mass confusion over whether or not I am serious*

One year when I was twelve-ish or so trick-or-treating as Link. After clearing up the confusion the candy-givers tended to give me a bit of extra candy for the embarassment.
Then some bigger kids started throwing firecrackers at my buddies and me, so I punched one with the practical wodden kite shield my great grandfather made for me and took his stuff.
My grandpa was proud. My mom grounded me from the SNES for a week.

Never. I've always had short hair, and the fact that it was blonde until about the age of six (my hair's brown now) didn't change that.

Not to mention I've never looked particularly feminine, and the fact that the only thing anyone's ever noticed about my voice is that it sounds kind of American.

when i was in primary school, i grew a kick-arse pony tail; it was long, as long as my back and what with my androgynous body and face...
all the damn time.

Back before I started tying my long hair back into a ponytail, I was on the bus, sitting near the front, resting my head against the window because I was really tired. I heard a child's voice from a few rows behind going "Look! That girl's crying!" So I got mistaken for being depressed as well as being a girl. :)

Also, at one point when trying to get past someone at the entrance to a shop, I think they may have said "Sorry, hen" to me. ("Hen" is a term of address for a woman in Scots, if you didn't know.)

Ponytail was good call, I suspect.

Actually, more than once. I never really understood it, since I'm not very tall, and quite thin. I guess it might be because I sometimes wear a trilby and have short hair? I honestly don't understand it myself.

Yep.
It was when I first had my hair cut short (i.e. length that most lads would have it short). I was in woodwork and the assistant technicial came over while I was using the drill and addressed me as a lad and asked if I needed help.
I don't begrudge it at all cos a) it was funny cos I was actually wearing a skirt at the time (although sitting down) but b) he's a really nice bloke so didn't mean it.

Another time was when I was at the airport with a group of lads I was going away with (I was the only female) a man stops us and starts asking questions and because he was addressing it all 'sir' and what not I didn't realise he was talking to me! Akward! I admit I probably looked a bit ladish in jeans, a fleece and with short hair but I'd like to think I have quite a feminine face and, y'know, voice.

Twice. Once in a restaurant, by a waitress; she had only seen me from behind, and wanted to ask me if I wanted anything, so said "Ma'am, can I get you anything?" It was obviously because I have luscious, long blond hair.

The second time was when my grandmother called, back when I was about twelve or so. She hadn't heard me speak in a long time at that point, and she first thought I was my mother with a cold.
