Oblivion, the dark brotherhood quest where... well, you know the one.
Oh god this one.

I was literally almost in tears. I can't even bring myself to do it again.
Yeah. It was a hell of a headfuck alright!
"Why dear brother, why?"

That lovable oaf. I missed him so.
And then going out to the remote building and finding what they had done to
Lucien LaChance
... that was a genuinely disturbing moment.
That whole damn quest line was epic. I felt like a sociopath but at the same time I was deeply hurt by those things.

Fuck, Oblivion was one hell of a game.

Yeah, In Mass Effect 1, i let Ashley die. I felt so guilty I loaded an old save and did again so it was Ashley who died. I think it was because I liked her character, and thought Kaiden was a bit of a douche.

Possible KOTOR spoilers (and a minor Fallout 3 one), didn't put spoiler boxes because of the games age.

Oh yes, all the time. Both unknowingly and knowingly. Latest would be in KOTOR (yes, I'm 7 years late on this) where I've just became a Jedi. I cheerfully used force control to get a cheaper price on HK-47, where Bastila suddenly gets all angry at me for abusing the Force like that. I felt so bad about betraying my "jedi master" that I had to reload an earlier save (and lose 30 minutes of progress) because I couldn't go on after that. Damn you, Jen Hale.

Also, in Fallout 3, when I was going for a bad karma playthrough and just bombed Megaton, the guilt started to chip away at me. It took Liam Neeson to tell me he was very disappointed with me to finally push me over the metaphorical edge. The rest of the game I started to pickpocket money TO people wandering randomly about, gave liters of water to the beggars, did about everything that I could to redeem myself. Still, when I heard 3-Dog mention me blowing Megation up, I couldn't go on with that character. I threw her into the Deathclaw cave, let her die horribly and then deleted the save.

Yeah, I have serious trouble playing evil characters. Unless Volus' in ME are involved. I threaten those frequently, damned space dwarves.

Nathaniel. That R1 button was just so big and the scene was so intense.
Ok, yeah, I did the EXACT same thing. They really did an excellent job of conveying Jayden's stress and the intensity of the situation to the player with that scene.

OT: Oh yeah, lots of times. I especially feel guilty in games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect when I try to go back and play the game through as more of an evil character. Not only do I feel guilty for doing nasty things, but I also feel like I'm betraying the story that I created the first time.

Fallout 3 (Spoilers)

1)Surprisingly not blowing up Megaton!(didn't really feel all that bad about it because I barely talked to anyone there on my first play through) Anyway, burning Harold (a man who as grown a tree grown into him) would be the act that made me feel quite terrible about myself.
2)He wanted to die and when I went into the caves and encountered my first group of Mirelurk Hunters, I decided to take the easy way out. He wouldn't mind too much right.......?
3)WRONG!!!!!!!!! Horribly, painfully, traumatizingly, wrong! I knew he was afraid of fire but I just didn't really think of it as a big deal. His screams and cries of excruciating pain will probably haunt me for the rest of my life. You'd have to have burned him too to understand just how awful that scream was.
4)Not if it was the same situation. I would need a lot more than just an easy way to finish the quest. If it was for some incredible unique weapon, I would probably do it.

I've felt guilty a few times, the most recent being taking Morrigan up on her unholy offer in Dragon Age. You kinda just felt like it was wrong, you know? Plus, because I was a female warden I got to talk Alistair into impregnating Morrigan - which as akward conversations go was pretty akward - but I just got too attached to Alistair to offer him up.

Let's see... I felt quite guilty pursuing the darker path in KotoR. Everything from lying about that lady's droid on Dantooine to killing that one girl Jedi who wanted revenge. I did it because I wanted to be the bad guy. I'd make a very poor villain in real life. I felt guilty because I had a choice, and I made the bad one. I probably wouldn't do it again, but on the other hand, few games handle the follow-through on moral choices very well, so I'm pretty unlikely to run into situations were the emotional and moral engagement is as high as it was.

Oh, but slaughtering the Sith? I didn't feel guilty at all about that. That was fun. They made the choice to fight it out that time.

the one where you kill the entire base of fellow dark brothers, or the one where you have to go around killing an old woman and her children?

Yeah it was a brilliant questline but I've only done it once in 4 playthroughs, the guilt is too much.

It certainly was a hell of a game, and this thread is making me want to go get my big dumb Nord and whack some bandits.

In Jacob's loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2, when the girl is talking to you and you're given the paragon option of throwing her out of the way of an incoming bullet, I just blanked and completely missed the cue. She took a bullet to the head, and for absolutely no reason. I felt really bad, so I loaded up the previous save and made sure to save her this time.

Incinerating the Companion Cube. I beat the record, damn it. :(
I ended up jumping in with it. I'm not leaving my best buddy!
Same on my first playthrough for that and to see if I could and to see if I could fall on top of the cube which didn't happen. I may be weird but damn if that game didn't make you feel bad about that part.

Many times in many games. Sometimes it's down to not knowing what I'm doing or the game being too vague, so I can't deduce that what I'm doing is wrong, but sometimes it's me trying to play the "evil" character and failing at it. In fact, I am almost incapable of playing an evil character if presented with a good/evil choice. If it does come down to playing the evil path to see all the story/content, it tends to be slightly unsettling.

Worth noting is that I only feel guilty if I had a choice. If it's a scripted sequence then it's out of my hands and it's not me who's causing the suffering. But if I can prevent it or if I'm the one who makes the call, then I do feel guilty. Those are my actions, even if they are virtual and I want to be proud of them if at all possible.

Most recent example would be the Chaos Rising expansion for Dawn of War 2, which lets you corrupt your squads by performing dishonourable acts in missions or using tainted artifacts and forbidden powers. Such an approach results in more powerful squads with better gear. A cool mechanic, but playing to max my corruption was unpleasant. I was forced to let my allies die, have some of my own men abandon me and watch the rest descend into chaos. Thankfully, I'm now doing my pure playthrough and it's all better... :)

I must say, I felt nothing. Not only do I not get why everyone loves the damn cube so much, the game could not be advanced without incinerating the damn thing. Therefore, what's there to feel guilty about? If you were given an option to proceed in some way without destroying the cube (perhaps at great personal cost), then it would be my decision and I might feel bad about it...

Well, sure, if you look at it as "just a cube", but it wasn't. It was your only friend in Aperture Science, with GLaDOS and turrets trying to kill you. I mean, for example, using one from FF7, how would you feel if you had to kill Barret to advance in the game?

I was 'doing the right thing' by revealing Mister Burke's plan to Lucas Simms in Fallout 3.

I still can't bring myself to look Harden in the eye; and I swear that one day I will find that jerk and blow his friggin head off without even letting it get to a dialogue box.
