I usually try "not to judge a book by its cover" as much as possible, but sometimes doing it is unavoidable. For example if someone has a witty or funny avatar, I'm going to assume they're a somewhat intelligent person. If someone has a screen shot of their high score in Counter Strike, I'm going to assume they're a narcissist. And, if someone's avatar picture is sharing their favorite political party or politician with all of their fellow commentators, I'm going to assume, they're a ignorant, arrogant, rude, critical, inarticulate person who has no knowledge of politics or any original thoughts or political views of their own for that matter and in the presence of any contradiction to their beliefs is going to either insult you and/or judge you and sometimes even attempt to pose an argument based on what they've been force fed by the media. Sorry, that was kinda irrelevant.

Yeah, people still think I'm actually female on XBL.

Then again my mate looks ridiculously like his avatar.

I was about to answer no but then I remembered so guy on here with an anti obama icon thing on here and I pretty much instantly judged him to be a prick and after reading some of his posts I was proven right

i did the same thing....exactly
I'm the opposite I see the nobama sign and add them as a friend lol.
hey as long as you dislike Obama because of his political views and not just because he is black

then ur A ok in my book
Does that mean you think I do? Just wondering because I don't want people to think I'm racist.
how am i supposed to know what you think?

Yeah I massively judge everyone based on their avatars. Not necessarily negatively, I just kinda automatically peg them as something

Which is why my avatar is just a picture of me. People can come to the conclusion that I'm vain and human and that's about it

I'm not saying either one of those is true though ;D

Forum avatars do say a bit about a person. Some more than others, some less. Often it's just a random picture that they think is cool, sometimes it's a statement that some thing or another is awesome, or is horrible.

I would love to know what people have come up with about me based upon my avatars as I have had some fairly differing ones:

Invader Zim.
Dr Cox from Srubs.
The 'Assemblage 23' logo.
The Joker clapping.
The one I have now.

I can't see what could be gained except knowing a little about my taste in movies/TV/music and books.

I don't get the distaste of Anime avatars either, not any more than a picture from any other fiction based entertainment anyway.

Although this sums up my opinion quite nicely:

I'd say that I do judge people a bit from their avatars.
But really, it's only after reading a few of their posts that you get any kind of insight as to what they're like.
So I try to reserve complete judgment until I've seen them at least five times.
Unless the first post I see is a complete piece of crap/trollish spew.
Then they get a place on the list.

Anyway, not usually, and I get annoyed when people do it to me.
I am not, nor have I ever been, emo.

So fuck you.
It says a lot about peoples minds though. I wouldn't say any of your avatars would strike me as 'Emo'.

But not....I've forgotten the word, it's a kind of humour. Like dark humour and such.
Black Humour is the normal term, although due to political correctness I suppose that may be banned soon.

I'm going to go ahead and rant about judgement in general.

Yes, I judge people, because I have eyeballs. If I see a certain avatar, I'm going to make an opinion based on that person. If I see someone in real life, I'm going to form an opinion based on how they're dressed. There is NOTHING wrong with this. What's wrong is when you make general actions based on your judgments, when those judgments haven't been supported by facts.

If I see a kid with "emo" hair, I might assume that he's a whiny ******. This assumption isn't wrong, I'm making rational connections based on what I have experienced in the past. If I act on this judgment (make fun of him, etc) that IS wrong.

So, to everyone saying "blahblah I don't judge" stfu and start using your brain.

This is the part of the post where I actually get on topic, but I've pretty much already stated that, yes, I make judgments based on avatars. So, I have nothing else to say.
Indeed.

EDIT: I wrote this while thinking about Xbox 360 Avatars.
Internet avatars... No, I don't find myself judging people based on them.

The thing is, when people design their avatar, they either try to make it look the way they do, or make it look the way they wish they did (usually, I'm sure there are some reasons that are a big minority).
When I see someone's avatar and it's done up like a witch doctor, The Joker, or any other ridiculous thing that is obviously not the way the person looks, I assume they're some ignorant, annoying, abrasive child. Guess what... 9/10 times I'm right.

Yes, and its the ones that constantly flash between different scenes rapidly. They piss me off, and it makes me think the person possessing them has ADD.

On the other hand, people with normally animated avatars I tend to respect for some reason.

I have just judged you as being increadibly cute.

And then I read your post. Your increadibly cute AND ferocius! 2 for 1!

Sometimes I can tell who the /b/tards on here are by their avatars. But other than that, I really don't.

It depends on their post.
If they have a Halo themed avatar and every time I see one of their posts, and it just happens to ALWAYS involve halo bullshit [no matter what the post is really about], Then I will judge said person using their avatar against them, and do so in a very harsh way.
Same goes for people who want Yahtzee's dick and won't stop praising him, and have a ZP avatar.
Idk, it's just silly when fan boys get that bad.
But other than things like that, no, not really.

No, never. There might be one in about five-hundred posters of which I partially base my opinion about them on their avatar, but I've never judged somebody based on their avatar alone. I look at the content of their posts 99% of the time, their names 0.9% of the time and their avatars 0.1% of the time.

I don't usually watch the avatars so much. But at least in Gametrailers if someone has Master Chief as their avatar you can pretty much guess they're the worst of the worst of the worst Xbox fanboys.
