Porco Rosso defiantly however I would not like to rank the rest to them to much. They are all wonderful films and all would be placed among my favourite films.

Studio Gibli?

I'd Of chosen Cagliostro just because it was a Lupin III film.
out of those choices... I'll say Howl's Moving Castle
Castle of Cagliostro beats out anything Ghibli has produced in the last 20 years, that much is fact.

Mononoke, I feel while the animation has remained beautiful, his stuff isn't as good as it used to be way as of late.
Cagliostro is a type of film I would like to see him do again, the characters and the settings are presently different to the normal formula his films have. However I am not sure his stuff is getting worse, if you compare Mononoke to Nausicaa (two most similar films in my mind anyway) you can see a growth in the characterisation and the setting. You are always use who is right in Nausicaa however this is less clear in Mononoke and it is a lot easier to sympathise with most of the characters.

Miyazaki isn't a genius, it's just that his reasonably-above-average films shine like the finest ruby-encrusted diamonds in comparison to the badly-animated, sloppily-paced, misogynistic drivel that makes up 99% of the competition in this genre.

Out of the ones I've seen I liked Spirited Away the best and Kiki's Delivery Service the least.
I thoroughly disagree! Genius may be a subjective word, as one persons genuis is anothers madness, but I've never seen a Miyazaki film that hasn't seemed fresh and original and been a pleasure to watch. The soundtracks are pretty awesome too, although I believe that's more to do with the composer than the director.

Princess Mononoke would be my personal favourite.

Are you serious about Castle of Cagliostro? While I found it to be the most fun of Miyazaki's films, it's not my favourite.

Mononoke's setting and morally ambiguous characters really appeal to me, so it probably helps it just come above Laputa, Nausicaa and Spirited Away for me. I agree that his stuff isn't as good as it used to be (although I can't judge Ponyo yet, it doesn't seem to be generating the same buzz Spirited Away did)

Princess Mononoke was the first movie of his I saw and I liked it but I saw Spirited Away more recently and also liked it. Princess Mononoke gets my vote because of nostalgia.
Actually, I was going to say exactly that. Chances are that those are the only two Miyazaki films I'll ever see, though, so I can't say anything more than that.

Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, they're both great, it's hard to pick one.
Spirited Away is a cherished favorite of mine :D
Haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle, though.

i can't choose, there are too many brilliant films, i'd have to go with a top 5 just to do him justice.
in no particular order;
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
My neighbour totoro
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle

another great studio gihbli film is Grave of the Fireflies, it's almost too sad to watch.

I've only seen Spirited Away. I liked that film very much, and I will probably see Ponyo sometime soon.

It's a hard decision, but I think I'd have to go with Spirited Away as my top pick. Lots of character growth, lovely story, fun characters. Of course, you could probably describe most of the films that way. With the exception of Totoro--cute and cuddly as it was, I remember sitting through it and waiting for character growth or a climax to the plot, and... nothing really happened. Again, adorable and iconic, but I felt that the storyline was weaker than it could have been.

Well im still yet to see spirited away (i feel like an idiot) so im going to have to go for princess monoke.
There is an obese Radish spirit in Spirited Away. He is so very lovable, and rides an elevator.

damn this has got to be the hardest poll i've seen on this forum so far, as i've so i've loved all the ghilbi films i've seen(baring grave of the fireflies, but thats awesome in an impossibly different way). Trying to choose a 'best' is nearly impossible!

I'll go with Princess Mononoke for now, but it's really like choosing the best between 8x 9.8/10 rating films

So far I've only seen Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke, and Mononoke is my favorite, followed by Spirited. That said, I've heard Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is good, so I'm reserving my judgment until I see it.

The great films are great, and Mononoke is wonderful. But anyone who thinks that Miyazaki is a genius who can do no wrong should watch Kiki's Delivery Service. It's not a bad film as such, but it is generally pretty damn average, with dull, insipid characters (except the cat who is awesome and doesn't get anywhere near enough screen time) and a strange, creepy undercurrent of misogyny which sneaks into the second half of the film. Not saying Miyazaki isn't a good director, but he's not worthy of the "genius" pedestal. Every David Lynch has a Dune if you know what I mean. (And I love David Lynch but Dune is a turd of a film.)

It's hard to pick one, since out of the four I've seen, I've loved all of them.

Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are all wonderful films and I just love them.

I suppose I'd say Princess Mononoke is my favourite, albeit only just, since that was the first Miyazaki film I watched and it started off my adoration of his films, while Porco Rosso has such a brilliant story and possibly one of my favourite lead characters of all time, as well as sounding pretty good in either the original Japanese or with English dubs.
