Ive listed to some of their stuff and they are good. But i dont think they will last because concerts really give a band their staying power and all of the concerts with heavy music ive been to there are usualy 500 fights and it just gets too hectic. The last one i was in someone had razer blades and jumped into the mosh pit and a lot of people got hurt. For that reason I dont think that heavy bands will have as much staying power and will eventualy die.

Will it last? Definetly, will it ever become as popular as pink floyd, etc? No.
Personally, I don't care if it becomes popular or not, because I enjoy it.
If there is any "music" and I use that term liberally that I think won't last, that is *Shudder* Rap.
Harder music may never become insanely popular, but to those who enjoy it, these bands will become classic icons.
Amen to that dude!

Hm, I'm also in the group that likes the classics and the older stuff. I'm a huge fan of Rush, and Blue Oyster Cult. You'll also see me listening to some Led Zep and some Thin Lizzy occasionally.

then, there's the stuff that I practically live for. Stuff like Megadeth, Exodus, Kreator, Destruction, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, and Autopsy that you'll see me listening to most of the time. Metal definitely does have the staying power, simply because it doesn't need commercial success. The 90s were a horrible time for metal, and it still came through. As long of the underground community persists, metal will be alive and well.

I dunno, ive been to a lot of metal concerts, and yeah the mosh pits are violent and can get pretty damn brutal...but if you wanna stay safe, just dont go in,you dont HAVE to join in everytime...everytime ive seen Machine Head ive stayed clear of the mosh pits because id much rather stand there enjoying their show...

Out of curiosity, who the hell did you go to watch when razor blades came into it o_O ??

It was a small heavy band in New Mexico, they weren't that good. But I do try to stay away from mosh pits but there are always small ones that start near by.

It'll last, good example - Metallica, they've been going since the early eighties, and still have a strong fan base, slayer, megadeth, testament, there's loads of older bands that are heavy and are still going.

I noticed that most of the bands you posted where hardcore type bands, not really my cup of tea, I'd say heavy bands where things like Opeth, SYL etc.. and no offence, but most of those bands are pretty mainstream, they're are getting to be more and more pretenders (not accusing you) that don't seem to really "get" metal, I mean the aggression just isn't there anymore (or at least not like it used to be).
Yeah,i see what you mean...i gotta admit,my listing of the bands that i like was very brief,i love Metallica too...though not the Death Magnetic album...simply because,as you mentioned about aggression not being in metal anymore, the aggression doesnt seem to be there in Metallica anymore...its just not old Metallica...
And yeah,i did list a lot of hardcore bands, but i dont really do labelling so much, not that im accusing you,but ill admit, bands like A7X are,not becoming pretenders, but id say they are becoming more generally friendly, like to attract a bigger audiance...but i dont consider that as a bad thing,i love everything theyve ever released...i think the guitar is brilliant...but i accept that that is not your cup of tea,but aside from lighter stuff like Avenged i like a lot of stuff like Chimaira,Divine Heresy,Dream Theater,In Flames,Mastadon,Meshuggah,Mendeed etc etc etc...again,maybe not your cup of tea...
But to each their own eh? ;)

As long as there is personal opinion there will always be "Heavier" music. People can think of the brutal style of death metal as heavy, a simple thrash anthem from Metallica or Slayer as heavy, an epic melodic power song by say Amon Amarth some would consider very heavy or just simply even earlier stuff like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and the like will be considered heavy. People will always cherish what they really love in their music. "Heavier" music is and always will be opinion differentiating from person to person.
+1
Because thats probably one of the best points that ive read :)
Listen to him people =P

Very true about Metallica, they have indeed become pretty bad (but I'd say that they have been since the black album). Funny thing is, you've mentioned some of my favourite bands in that post, Dream Theatre, Mastodon and Chimaira, good choices sir! :)

Maybe he was watching Razor?
Hahaha
Well that would be total fanboyism ;)
I think he is referring to the Canadian band Razor from the 80s.
I am referring to that Razor. Shotgun Justice!
I thought so. It reminded me of the good old days when my friends and I would drink whiskey and smoke pot in the woods and blast our mix tapes. I used to have this great speed\thrash tape that I made, which included Razor, but my stereo ate the tape a few years back.

Cradle of Filth will stand up to Time, God, and even Cher. (Yes, there are forces in this world more powerful, but not hotter, than Cher).
Their songs are meaningful, and just pure epic win.
Unless you dislike Black Metal, then your opinion will differ.
I do like black metal, but I also hate Danny Filth's voice. Go figure.

The people you named don't hold a flame to The Who, Pink Floyd, or Eric Clapton. Sorry, but that's my personal opinion. Your bands may pretend that they're all tough and scary....but Eric Clapton threw his own baby out a window to write an epic song. Can any of your bands say the same? No.
I sure as hell hope that the members of the bands I listen to don't do stupid stuff like that!

As this thread has proven, music is totally subjective. There will always be people who like heavy music, so there will always be heavy music.

And for the people who doubt whether heavy music can be of the highest quality, I have - hang on, let me try to put this in a non-fanboyish way... ok, I have twelve words for you:

Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Kyuss Tool.
