I find it funny that I'm just about 6ft3 (not sure, where I live we measure in centimeters, so thank god ft is a very generous measurement), and I'm pretty average at hight.

I have two friends who are relatively small and we (my friends, college's and me) like to make fun of them, apart from that, I really don't care that much about height.

There is one exception: I don't like it when a girl is bigger then me.

I'm 6'3".

I've never really found the need to over exaggerate my height.
Same.

It does kinda annoy me when I see guys taller than me though.

It's just... wrong
I don't like the shoe being on the other foot damnit!
I'm 6.5 and like 6/8's so I say 6'6 I don't exaggerate it's just easier to say.

Also muahahaha I'm taller then you ~poke~
Muahahaha I beat you by 2".

When you get to this height, you have to drive bigger cars, which cost more money, several potential job fields are no longer an option, you can always get picked out in a crowd, your posture gets knackered due to having to duck through doorways. You halflings have it easy, seriously.

People really think 6' is tall? Shit, I can see the bald patches on 6' guys heads and then some.

"Laputan Machine."
I... I don't know what that means...

[small]I've just lost some nerd cred, haven't I? :([/small]
"Laputan Machine" is a code-word in Deus Ex to kill one of the enemies by triggering the explosive kill-switch someone installed in him.

Or it could be a reference to Gulliver's Travels. I'm not sure which.

I find it to be important. I'm a little over 6 ft and I wouldn't want to be any shorter.

QFT.

I've given up all hope of ever fitting comfortably in an airplane and 98% of cars.

I'm 5'7''. There was a time I was sensitive about my height, but now I just talk to whatever's at eye level. Funnier that way.

Still tallest in my family though.

I'm 5'0" (measured by my boyfriend at 4'11" once, but I think, hope, he might have been taking the piss) and yes, it really matters. I am definitely labelled small by people at first glance- it's my defining feature and it really shouldn't be. I also find it harder to look mature and professional because people's first response is 'awh! she's cute!'

However, sometimes it's really nice to be small. It's an easy cuteness card (even if you've not worked out for a few months and you've got bad hair and you're dressed scruffy, you're still adorable) and you can get tall people to get you things. And I love cuddling my boyfriend, because he's 6'1". We look weird to other people, but I love how protective it feels.

Height's one of those things that's important when growing up. At school you find yourself comparing heights and usually the tallest has prominance.

But in later life it doesn't matter so much unless you're a really short guy (5'2" kind of short), then it's a bit unfortunate. Being taller isn't great though. I'm 6ft. 6in. (~200cm) which makes mundane tasks like buying clothes an utter ***** (trouser and sleeve length fucks me near every time), and has the psychological effect of making you feel like you're standing out and the focus of attention, which can lead to shy and retinicent behaviour. While this is typically all in the tall persons head (and in fact many cultures see height as a good attribute [eg. the phrase: "tall, dark and handsome"]) it will have a profound effect on their psyche. Unless they happen to be naturally charming and good with people, in which case the two balance out and you are left with "Lucky-Asshole Syndrome".

Im 196cm, and I think it has its advantages to be tall... If you arent the skinny-tall type.

It gives a certain amount of respect among others.

That and I like to be able to pick people up...

On the other hand, it can hard at times to find clothing and shoes that fit... And cars tend to be too small.

Height never mattered to me (6ft 1). Although, like a few posters have already said, that's easy for someone above 6ft to say. From my experience, how tall you feel is much more important than how tall you are. I've met plenty of people who are 6ft 5 and have the confidence of someone who is 5ft 5 (and vice-versa).

I really don't give a flying fuck about height, though I've noticed shorter girls seem to give better hugs.

I'm 6' by the way.

Yes it is a big deal at least in your appeal to the opposite sex. Most girls I've meet tend to like taller guys over short or even average height. Which sucks cause i'm 5'9 and 16 yrs old. Granted i'll probally be 6' ft by the end of my senoir year of high school it sucks a lot right now.

Sigh....it's a fact of life that no woman would ever go for a grubby, sweaty, little short man. I may not be grubby or sweaty, but my height is probably my core problem and why I lack self-confidence.

Ladies, would you honestly consider dating a

5"3'

guy? Despite me considering myself attractive, height is really a large factor.

As the resident short guy of this site, these threads really pain me.

Yes, it is. I'm 6'6" (last I checked, which was a while ago) with a proportional frame, and there's a lot of things I'll never be able to enjoy. Vehicles that aren't trucks or SUVs, for example. I also hit my head on an incredible amount of things at construction sites, and draw way more attention to myself than I would ever want.

On the plus side, nobody fucks with me.

EDIT: Also, my sense of scale SUCKS.

I find it unusual how a few people I know have a tendancy to round up their height and add one. For example I am 6ft 2 and a bit, I know this for a fact (the tape measure does not lie), yet a few of people I know claim to be this height too and instead claim that I must be 6ft 3 or 4 to justify me being taller and for them being shorter.

So my question is: 'Is height really that much of a big deal that we tend to overestimate it or even exagerate it?
In technical terms rounding up or downing are both inaccurate, If you were 6 foot and 15 milimeters are you going to bother being that exact or would you just say 6'1 out of convinence.

Yes... I'm short, and notice all the time...
I applied for a sign waving job at a smoothie shop the other day, but didn't get hired because they couldn't see me behind the sign... which is fair enough, the sign was easily twice my size, would have been a waste of paid personnel. But still, shortness suuuuucks
Lawsuit time. You could end up owning the smoothie shop :)
